Okay, 30 minutes into this "debate" and I am ready to turn back over to the baseball game! Enough of the mud slinging already. Can we please hear something about an economic or energy plan from our future president, please?!?!?!?
Joseph Tegerdine Comment by Joseph Tegerdine on October 13, 2008 at 10:17am
The PickensPlan may not be the perfect solution, or even the best solution, but at least it is organizing millions of people to get involved to help our country become energy independent. Anyone who believes Mr. Pickens does not have a personal, financial interest in this movement is naive. If he can succeed in helping our country stop building Dubai and the rest of the Middle East while putting a few billion dollars in his pocket and the American economy, then we should spread the word and let our voices be heard at the local and national level. There will be plenty of other forums to argue how and which plan should be carried out.

I am well aware that T. Boone Pickens is heavily invested in Wind Power and will need a private public partnership to move it as quickly as possible to help resolve our domestic energy needs. He is also heavily invested in Natural Gas and will benefit monetarily as well from increased use of natural gas in all our energy needs.

I also see Mr. Pickens as a very intelligent individual who has the talent and means to coordinate very large number of citizens to help move our country, albeit in stages away from domestic and foreign oil. Will we ever get rid of oil all together, hopefully but not in the near future.

If we can work with all aspects of business and government to move in steps to cleaner more sustainable sources of fuel we will all benefit. Do I not think that as a business man Boone Pickens should not benefit from his effort, of course he should benefit. If we can move this proposition forward we will all benefit. If we depend on only altruism to get to where we need to be we will be waiting a very, very long time for a solution to our energy needs.

I only hope that I will be in a position to buy some stock in wind power.

Thank you Mr. Pickens for your genius and foresight in working to bring us all together to influence our businesses and politicians.

This discussion has gone from very positive to negative remarks about candidates. All candidates have different views. This political forum should be nonpartisans and only dedicated to giving well thought out recommendations to both candidates. Decide when you vote. Discuss your partisan views with friends in private please.

Marxist Obama???? Have you heard Gov. Palin speak lately? The woman is a lunatic!!!! If McCain is elected, she is as Tina Fey said," a heartbeat away from becoming OUR PRESIDENT! That is truly frightenting!!!!!!!!!!!
Tom Needles Comment by Tom Needles on October 10, 2008 at 12:02pm
The idea that Palin is an energy "expert" is laughable. Listen carefully when she speaks, she uses oil and gas interchangeably with energy. She has a vested interest in oil and gas taking center stage. Visit the Alasakan government website. The have no income, property or sales taxes . Yet they have relatively high state spending per capita and a huge budget surplus.

How is this so ?

They have 4 separate taxes on oil and gas and derive 90% of state revenue from the industry. EVERY Alaskan gets an annual rebate from oil that can be between 1600 to 3200 per person. Not too bad if you get it .

She "took on big oil" by cramming a $1200 per resident rebate on top of the high kickbacks already in place. The governor of Alaska has a lot of leverage in dealing with oil companies , fairly high levels of reserves, expensive equipment in place, and an industry desperate to continue getting revenue from it's large investment in the pipeline.

Connect the dots. Federal royalties on lower 48 oil are not collected and we must subsidize companies to explore and drill. Alasaka jacks up the price fro everybody in the lower 48 and redistributes our wealth to it's citizens.

No wonder she has an 80% approval rating.

McCain keeps speaking out, all choked-up with much emotion, about Winning the, "War in Iraq". Appealing to the patrotic feelings of Americans. He, and Obama need to cut the acting, they're neither 1 decent Actors, and start leveling with US. There is NO WAR IN IRAQ!!! The Nation that once was Iraq has been decimated. The US Military in now involved in a Police Action in the Territory of Iraq. There is a puppet government supported by the Police Action. Victory, in a traditional sense, is impossible. Iraq has been defeated. There may be a few Face Cards left of Saddams Government still fighting?
In a Crime Zone, refered to as a Combat Zone, which is where are troops are now deployed, a semblance of Law, & Order may be forced upon the population. This on a day < to day basis. Once the Police force leaves the area, there are no guarantees that the Iraqis will continue to police "their" own.
In all likely hood, once US forces are withdrawn, all Hell will break loose.
Neighboring Countries will most likely invade. Maybe terriost, but what will they have to gain, unless they're sponsered by an involved Nation.
This could shut-down the Gulf to all Oil exports!!!
$150.oo < $200.oo a barrel Oil could become a reality.
We need to prepare Ourselves! I propose that the American Auto Manufactures join togeather in building a Peoples Car, which will be basic, much like the origional VW Beetle. Not expensive. Practile, with a milage range of 80 < 100 m.p.g. Top speed of = 75 m.p.h. + 5 m.p.h.

1 thing I've learned about these times under president g.w. bush is that once you think things have gotten as bad as they possibly can get, they'll get worse.

Watch out! I feel the worst is yet to come...

Especially if Sen. J. McCain is elected President this Nov.

What's the NYSE Symbol for Boone's Wind Power Corp?
Mike Young Comment by Mike Young on October 8, 2008 at 8:08pm
I believe we as a nation need to stand together and work together to work a solution to our energy crisis. However let us not be unaware that Mr. Pickens is a business man who is heavily invested in wind power farms with no way to get this power to market. He needs government involvement in the way of Huge tax Dollars to pay for the infastructure that is needed. Is it any suprise that he has chosen to start this movement just at the time our nation is about to elect our next president? I am a free market capitalist. It seems that Mr.Pickens who I at one time thought to also be a free market capitalist may be chosing to get in bed with marxist party of Senator Obama in hopes that he also can suck at the tit of the over burdened tax payers. I believe we need to look to all forms of energy. Wind power is workable but it alone will never provide very much of our needs in this country. Also in my opinion wind farms are very unsightly. Would you want one in your back yard? I've seen them out in the west. Standing high above the plains. They are an intrusion on the beauty created by God. While I know we must do what we need to do to solve this problem, I also believe we need to stop relying on government to solve the problem or to be involved by spending even more tax dollars that will leave our children and grandchildren in deep deep debt. One thing I've learned about business is this, if there is truly a market for your product you will never be lacking in investors. The free market will work if we allow it to. My fear is that if we allow government to become involved, sooner or later they will find a way to nationalize our energy industries just as they are begining to nationalize our banking industries. We are standing on a slippery slope my friends. Let us stand together using our intellects to formulate an intelligent plan and then go forward with determination and with purpose. Then we will succeed.
