Latest Activity: Oct 31, 2008

Event Description

On January 20, 2009, a new President will take office and the new Congress will convene.

During the first 100 days of Congress, we want legislation to be passed creating policies that embrace domestic energy alternatives to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Between now and then, we need to build an army to ensure our voices will be heard by the next Administration and Congress.

Call to Action for the Month of August

  1. Please recruit 5 friends to join us at Push.PickensPlan.com. Get everyone you know signed up - friends, family, neighbors, business associates.
  2. During the August recess, many Members of Congress will be back in their home states and districts. If they are in your area at a public event or appearing on a call-in radio show, please ask them the following questions:
    • Do you agree that we need to slash our foreign oil dependence by at least 30% within 10 years?
    • Do you agree that we need to generate at least 20% of our electricity from domestic renewable sources by 2019?
    • Do you agree that we need to have incentives in place to get these technologies installed and operational within 10 years?
    • Do you agree that private enterprise should provide the investment and execute the deployment with government clearing the way?
    • Do you agree with the Pickens Plan?

If you are able to speak with your Member of Congress, please leave a comment on this page to let us know what they said. And keep us updated on your recruitment efforts in the comments section, as well. Also, continue to check the Push homepage for more information and updates.

We will continue to be in touch, and look forward to hearing from you as well.

Thank you.

With reguards to the following two items: - Do you agree that we need to have incentives in place to get these technologies installed and operational within 10 years?
- Do you agree that private enterprise should provide the investment and execute the deployment with government clearing the way?
Until there is a complete explanation of what is ment by "incentives" as well as how you invision government to "clear the way" it would be foolish to bring them up in a discussion or a callin show with members of Congress/Senators. Please explain in detail so we can speak intelligently on them, if we concur. Jay .

I would like to see a written plan on how to accomplish pushing the pickensplan forward nationally in pieces. I plan to speak Senator Byrd and Congresswoman Capito about these ideas and see how my state of WV can benefit and participate.

So far I have kept up my end of the deal. I have personally recruited 20 people (and counting) to sign up. I have not received any responses from elected officials, but I have gotten some response from our city's Deputy director, Policy and Communications who is working on our city's "Energy and Sustainability Initiative." I also sent a check to the Southern Alliance for Renewable Energy.
There is a very useful link here to email all elected officials who represent you. Type in your zip code, click federal or state (ok, it's really two clicks) and type your message. This week I am writing actual letters to these people as I have found in the past they have a much better chance of response. The last week of August I will be making phone calls.
Keep it up!!! This five week congressional break is actually a good opportunity to get in touch with our elected officials while they are back in their home districts.

I'm planning to ask my Member of Congress these questions at an event this weekend. I look forward to also hearing what other members of this community are planning to do this month to contact their Members of Congress. This is important everyone - let's track down our representatives and make them accountable! These actions with regard to Congress are what will eventually make the Pickens Plan a reality. Congress needs to hear from us!

I just invited 10 friends to help rock the plan in addition to calling my Congressman and my two Senators. All were very supportive!

My Congressman is also holding a town hall next week and I plan to attend and ask him what else he can do to help T. Boone reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Great job Torrey!! I just called my Congressman, Sam Johnson and he said he was excited to support the Pickens plan.

Senator Cornyn is holding meet and greets this month and I plan on asking him what he can do to support the Pickens Plan in Congress and end our dependence on foreign oil.

Invite all of your friends, family and neighbors. And have them call their elected officials. Write a letter to the editor of your local or national newspaper. There is so much we can do to support the Pickens Plan! Together we can solve the energy crisis!!

Thank you for contacting me with your support for T. Boone Pickens' proposal. I appreciate hearing from you.

I took note of Mr. Pickens' plan to lessen America's dependence on oil. I believe that by taking advantage of our abundant wind, geothermal, and solar assets, America can significantly reduce its dependency on oil, especially foreign oil. With northern Nevada's geothermal resources, the solar resources in southern Nevada, and the bountiful wind available throughout the state, Nevada is in a prime position to lead the nation and the world in developing clean renewable resources.

To help spur this development, I introduced the Clean Renewable Energy and Economic Development Act (CREEDA, S. 2076). As you may know, transmission access for renewable energy is a critical barrier that we must overcome to begin delivering renewable electricity to consumers on a large scale. CREEDA would help link transmission lines to renewable energy-rich areas like those in rural Nevada. Most of these areas have insufficient transmission capacity to convey renewable electricity to consumers who are often far away. It would also designate national renewable energy zones around the nation. If no privately funded companies commit to funding transmission infrastructure to bring renewable electricity from those zones to market within three years, the government would provide alternative financing through the Federal power marketing agencies, like the Western Area Power Administration, to pay for the transmission projects.

I also understand the important role that tax incentives play in developing and expanding our renewable energy infrastructure and the green economy, and I am working hard to get the longest possible extension of the solar, geothermal, and renewable tax credits.

I am confident that we can power Nevada with clean renewable energy, bolster a growing local industry, and create thousands of new jobs if we invest in our state's renewable energy resources. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

My best wishes to you.

Sincerely,

HARRY REID

I went on google and found both of Colorados Senators and all 6 representatives. I sent them all an email explaining who I am, where I live, and that I am concerned about America's addiction to Foreign Oil. I then asked each of Boone's questions. I will post my results as soon as I get a response. If enought of us write in to them - they will have no choice but to listen to our voices. This is our country and they work for us! It's time we pull together. If everyone on PickensPlan would email their Senators and Congress Representatives, it would overwhelm them and cause them to start thinking. This is the bridge to the next 20+ years and if we wait, it will be worse than we've ever seen.
