Because they only have 50 of the 60 votes needed in the Senate to get anything out of committee. The Republicans block anything from coming to a vote on the floor.

Why indeed! The Republicans have not been helping, that is why.

"On five separate occasions in July, Republicans ignored the opportunity to join Democrats in passing energy legislation that would provide both short and long term relief to consumers. Each time, most Republicans sided with their party leaders in making a political statement rather than voting to provide relief for their constituents. "

And by the way, Congress did pass energy legislation in 2007 that raised standards for fuel mileage. Democrats have been addressing energy policy aggressively.

We are living under a Two Party Dictatorship. Why are inportant issues ingnored by the Senate and Congress. Why are Borders and Ports left wide open? Why does the majority refuse to sign a Transparency Pledge? (source www.cagw.org ) answer: because they are bought and paid for by Special Interests and big money American Corporations.

Pork is a four letter word. I urge you NOT to vote for f.y.2009. Reason, the bill is loaded with 1480 earmarks worth 3.5 $billion that do nothing to fix America's dependency on foreign oil imports.
America is taking some Big Economic Hits. It's just plain STUPID to keep spending $700 Billion a year for Oil when actually America has more Oil than OPEC. We need to starting drilling now and increase our efforts to develop Oil Sands and Green energy.
Why don't you start an investigation on (1) Trillions missing from DoD (2) Billions missing from HUD!? (source www.whereisthemoney.org)
We are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. No earmarks on f.y.2009 Energy Independence Bill.

You may be interested to check out solari.com to fnd out where the money is. Catherine Austin Fitts worked as an assistant secretary at HUD under HWBush and discovered the missing money and the laundering of narco dollars being carried out by our government.
