The good people of Arkansas need to quit listening to their state transportation managers, transportation consultants and school superintendents. Their current state of denial, according to the Arkansas News Bureau, is that alternative fuels (particularly CNG and propane) are more expensive than diesel, fading in popularity, and the infrastructure is cost prohibitive.
You know all of those things are wrong, but it’s particularly ironic that Chesapeake Energy anticipates finding 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in Arkansas in the next ten years worth $200 billion in future revenue.
What’s ossified is not the alternative fuel vehicles they are dumping (ship 'em to Utah!) but rather the “me too” thinking that has them stuck in yesteryear.

PS -- Mark Your Calendars and Don't Miss This Green Event: "Kiss Your Gas* Goodbye"
The First Unitarin Church of Salt Lake City's Environmental Ministry first program of the season will be held on this Friday, September 19, 2008 in Eliot Hall, 569 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The opening film begins @ 7:00 PM. From 6:30 to 7:00 PM outside the church will be examples of alternatives to the current gasoline dilemma. There are several ways to express that dilemma: "What do I do now when I know this car I'm using is a dinosaur?" "What do I do when I can't buy gas*, and when will that happen?" "Are there solutions to this transportation crisis -- solutions that will leave us with clean air?" "I commute 30 miles each way to my job -- what do I do if I'm having trouble affording the gasoline?" Post Carbon Salt Lake will provide some eye-opening answers to these questions and will discuss and describe our individual and collective transportation future. Come and be part of discovering and/or creating the cutting-edge! This program is cosponsored by First Unitarian Church Environmental Ministry , Utah Interfaith Power & Light, and Post Carbon Salt Lake.
* Presumably this exludes CNG? (Clean, Affordable, Abundant, All-American) Compressed NATURAL Gas. Take action, demand CNG, now.
