When are the automakers going to sell cheaper alternative fuel vehicles? Except for the E85 compatible units the price tag is astounding. The Honda Civic CNG vehicle is 25,000 SRP US Dollars. Ford's European-marketed low mileage gasoline vehicles have a price akin to German luxury vehicles.
Another issue is infrastructure. CNG pumps should be available and a cheap way for homeowners to fuel their vehicles needs to be marketed. My city used CNG vehicles for some time (Macon, GA) and I had a customer at my mother's store drive in a CNG-retrofit vehicle.
In the near term I would like to see a passenger vehicle capable of running on liquid kitchen grease, paint thinner, or other forms of diesel. While this doesn't offer the pluses of natural gas it would be a long-term solution. The US Army used diesel "deuce and a halfs" capable of burning rather odd concoctions.
I love biodiesel and ethanol for their near-term availability. They still fall behind what CNG has to offer.
