PickensPlan

Any energy plan that does not include Plug IN Electric Cars as its centerpiece is faulty and misguided. The survival of the world depends on the end of the use of oil as soon as possible. Natural gas while cleaner than oil is still a potntial menace to uor environment. Plug in electric cars are the answer. They can be recharged with a domestic solar or wind energy energy system and recharging stations which would only require a simple 110 or 220 outlet. Converting to natural gas is a waste of time and resources. Natural gas still puts pollutants into the air.The electrical grid is the easiest way to get power to cars. Lets put an end to oil. I would rather see the oil industry become extinct than the polar bear. How does Mr Pickens feel about that?
Why has Mr Pickens failed to mention electric cars in the plan?

We all rely totally on TRANSPORTATION -- the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We do not depend on oil, we depend on transportation -- we cannot avoid the need for transportation it is a true dependency that will never go away. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking.

The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, however it is a stop gap solution because NG will peak in about 20 years. Our electric grid is also strained, and wind cannot keep up with increasing demand so coal plants and NG plants are also being built. Massive efficiency improvement is the only approach that is sustainable long term, and economically feasible.

Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT)™ is patented transportation technology that can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh than electric cars or trains, it is cleaner, lower cost, safer, faster, and electric (so it can use Pickens wind power or PV to it's highest and best use). click on my name to learn more.
I think electric cars are just one part of the big picture but all vehicles can not run on just electricity alone, like big trucks, trains, planes etc.
Mr. Pickens is the only one really trying to make a difference in the world. Both candiates are skirting the issues and especially Obama. We have to act now or we will be paying $7.00 a gallon. Electricity is not the answer because you will just drive up the price of it where the average American won't be able to afford it.
Patrick,
Apparently you haven't looked at the Main Page lately. Pickens made a statement thanking Senator Obama for the remarks he made in support of Pickens in his energy speech. Remember, that's the speech that you claimed misquoted Pickens. T Boone didn't seem to agree with you. Sorry to rain on your little rightie parade again. Didn't mean to tramp on you with facts.
everyone should remember that regardless of how RE will help the environment, and I dont think anyone is doubting that, this is still a business and we are l;ucky enough to live in a free trade society. There is always a financial agenda..even to Pickens plan.

I am not knowcking him or his plan, we all have families to feed and bills to pay, but there is NO one answer to this problem and there is not one persom who will have that golden answer. This is a start, almost an introduction to what we really need to get acomplished.
I suppose we shouldn't drill..............everybody keeps putting it off but we have to drill now. The left is wanting us to inflate our tires...like that is really the answer. We need to drill in Alaska, off the coast of Fl and CO. Saudia Arabia pays .49 cents a gallon. How fair is that.
Patrick,
I agree it isn't fair. If you fill up in Bagdad it's only 40 cents a gallon, Caracas? 17 cents, That's cheaper than gas was when I was a juvenile delinquent cruising the drive-in restaurants.

As for tire inflation, the right has seized on this to mock the Dems. It was actually Charlie Crist the Republican governor of Fl that first brought it up and NASCAR. What it was meant to illustrate was that we can save more gas with proper tire inflation than we could EVER, even 10 years hence, get from offshore drilling. Providing of course the oil was directed to US markets only... That's why oil is cheap in Venezuela, they satisfy domestic demands before they allow exports. Wanna bring prices down at the pump, at least a little? Stop Alaskan oil from being sent to the far east.
buy this car and pay less than that....

Great link itty...everyone should check this out...You know while we're all fighting about drilling some smart Japanese or German will end up cornering the auto industry with electrics.
Lynn,
Actually I picked up on this several days ago. See ...you're falling down on the job:) Here's the link: http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2008/january9/nanowire-010908.html Now go figure how we can cash in.
Cyclic Regeneration of High Output Electricity into National Grids : Perhaps that discussion will interest you.

Mr Pickens may be misguided on some issues, but he may have the capability to assist me, in setting him on the right track. I shall just have to wait and see whether what I read about him is true..People that have the keen sense to know when they're offtrack a bit ,and take corrective measure are great...its the ones that barrel down a set path without foresight that are actually dangerous:)
Check out the DVD called "Who killed the Electric Car," and it is easy to see that big oil is in bed with GM and big auto companies and there will have to be some grassroots uprising in order to make these people change and do something that works. Electric cars are a very real possibility for our problems. Not a solution for everything but a great start.
