A square yard of reception area only produces 100 watts at 20% efficiency in sunniest conditions. That is 1/2 kilowatt hour per day, worth about 5 cents per day, so payback is perhaps a century. Possibly you can average 6 cents per day if you re-point your box at the sun every hour or two. Neil
how did you come up with those numbers? to figure out how much you will be able to produce out of a solar electric system you have to find out how many sun hours your area receives on average per day? Factoring in the rebate and tax credits, we have paybacks looking more in the 10 year range here in California.
Where are the numbers for this solar in a box?
there are no cookie cutter numbers. there are many variables to calculating the output of a solar electric system, don't you agree? The solar in a box are using suntech solar panels.
I think price is going to be the driving factor. If it is competitive it will probably have a future.
yep, price is always the driving factor, you're right. solar panel prices are expected to decrease significantly this year, so that is a good sign moving forward. Plus we have an increased tax credit this year!
