Voting on the Ideas for Change in America has ended as of 5pm ET on January 15, 2009. Change.org will announce the top 10 rated ideas at an event at the National Press Club TODAY in Washington, DC.

I just got this email from the site.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME...!!!

H.R.1 is the BIGGEST PIECE OF JUNK AND PAYBACK SPENDING IN CONGRESSIONAL HISTORY!!!

The name CRAP SANDWICH is the word for these "thing".

Has ANYONE seen or read the news about what it contains for every special interest group? The pie chart breakdown of who gets what?

Does Boone Pickens seriously thinks that I would ask my Senators to vote for this junk legislation?

It will completely, utterly and totally ruin what will be left of the Economy and the Baby Boomers will be on the steps of the Capitol with torches and pitchforks and whatever else we have handy.

I am "this close" to deleting my membership.

Did T. Boone Pickens ask us to support HR1? Does any one know what site the e-mail came from or why Denis thinks we should take it seriously? Has any one read HR1? Which special interests are aided by HR 1? We should not assume all special interests are evil, nor bad for the USA. With Congress we have to expect some bad with EVERY good bill. Neil

Savings bonds could be help in economic crisis

While Washington tries to "fix" the banking and Wall Street mess created by subprime "gotcha" adjustable rate mortgages defaulting en masse, many of us are looking for a safer place to put at least some of our retirement, college funds, etc.

And we also want our country to become more energy-independent and our crumbling infrastructure repaired. But with things as they are, how can we accomplish these three objectives? A new form of U.S. Treasury savings bonds could be the answer.

Without U.S. saving bonds, we wouldn't have been able to supply our troops and allies like we did in World War II. If the U.S. Treasury issued energy independence and infrastructure savings bonds that paid an interest rate about 3 percent greater than the annualized FED rate adjusted for inflation, only be redeemable on their anniversary date(s), and what they pay is not taxed when they are redeemed at maturity, all three of these objectives can be achieved without any increase in taxes — especially if these funds were only employed as 1-to-2 matching funds.

Such bonds could increase employment enough to even reduce our taxes. Pass this idea on to your friends and then the politicians.

Much of change.gov is closed to comments, however, I was able to submit the following at http://change.gov/page/s/energyenviro a few minutes ago.
invest in alternative and renewable energy, end our addiction to foreign oil, address the global climate crisis and create millions of new jobs.

Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future. ~I don't think we have ten years. Let's get the HVDC = high voltage direct current power line from West Texas to Tampa Florida (or other East coast location) under construction in 2009 and near completion in 2010~
Within 10 years save ~does that mean reduce consumption and/or replace with algae oil and/or CTL = coal to liquid and/or CNG = compressed natural gas?~ more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.
Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars, cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon, on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America. ~ we also need a million electric (not hybrid) cars before 2010~
Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012.
Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. ~please don't~

Get 1 Million Plug-In Hybrid Cars on the Road by 2015. ~not soon enough~

A “Use it or Lose It” Approach to Existing Oil and Gas Leases.
Promote the Responsible Domestic Production of Oil and Natural Gas.
Create Millions of New Green Jobs

Deploy the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Energy Source, Energy Efficiency.
Weatherize One Million Homes Annually.
Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology. ~that will take too long. We hardly have a clue how to do that~

Please join President Obama at Whitehouse.gov, but better yet, Recovery.gov went live today. Prez sez:
"That's why my administration has created Recovery.gov, a new website where citizens can track every dollar spent and every job created. We'll invite you and your neighbors to weigh in with comments and questions."

Hi Pat,
I thought we were told that the citizens briefing book was going to be a collection of the top ten ideas submitted by and voted on by the people to be gathered into a physical book, which would be handed to the president. The implication seemed to be that President Obama would READ those ideas. Was it silly to think that he might address the list one by one on change.gov? Probably so, but I kind of fell for it.

I've been trying to keep up with this whole President 2.0 thing, and wondering where we're going to be in relation to it 4 years from now as Pickens Plan members and ordinary citizens? So far the promises of follow through seem a bit shallow, but I think people are getting more for their dollar than with, say, Reagan's direct mail campaign.

David Plouffe and company have definitely made it a challenge to sort through my already Pickens Plan heavy inbox along with MoveOn.org, 1Sky, Van Jones, SACE, pgpf.org, Congress.org, ETCFC, The We Campaign, and the Yahoo Group 37917. And I was kind of a news junkie before all of that. At some point this past month, I kind of overloaded and started sending most emails straight to archive after just reading the subject while playing Mafia Wars on Facebook in another tab. The computer screen at times seems like that magic puzzle 3d picture where I STILL have never seen that damned sailboat. Then I was told it was an elephant anyway and I couldn't see the whole thing by myself..:-)

I would like to know where Pat Jack thinks the world is headed, because he studies it and he cares. We hunt the elephant, and I will tell you what I have seen of it in my best post card sized narrative:

1)The internet bubble rapidly created a powerful "public" tool before it burst.
2)The housing bubble has burst, but there are a lot less broken windows in my neighborhood.
3)The next bubble will be a tandem boom of energy and food. We will be left with a relatively affordable and stable domestic supply of both.
3a)...or we could artificially grow our nation's way out of debt via inflation.
4)"We" could sell a lot of new energy infrastructure to "the public" with the promise of tying this infrastructure to the production of food in new places, from solar panels on your rooftop garden to the SW U.S. where water will be pumped to new desert towns where sun farmers send back electricity.

By the time this bubble of rapid growth is due for a correction we have figured out cost effective desalinization and the kids are plugging into the hydrogen economy and traveling again and laughing at the old people with 20 year old facebook accounts... or we annex Canada, cede the South to Mexico and watch as China grinds half its population into the massacre of every last Russian for their water.
