I believe Mr. Pickens is trying to create demand. In any market, you must first have a demand for a product for it to sell. Simple yes?

We Americans (myself included) have a demand for oil. Why? It's simple..look around your neighborhood. Everyone drives a gasoline powered car. Gas stations are everywhere to suck up this incredible demand. Walk into an automobile dealership. What do you see? More gasoline powered vehicles. Even the hybrids burn gasoline. My wife drives a hybrid, we still pump gas into it each week or so commuting to work. We *have* to have transportation to and from work. So in the end, there was no need to drum up more demand becuase it was already there. All the oil tycoons had to do was simply tap into it. There is no demand for wind powered electricity because at the end of the day, do Americans really care where the electricity comes from when it is piped into your homes to light it, heat it/cool it and cook your food? No. So again, there is no demand...

We should care. Oil is not an energy source that can replentish itself. It *will* run out. Why do you think gas prices keep hitting record highs? These same oil tycoons know full well the end of the era of oil is near...not because we are running out, but because simply the pollution is killing our world environments.

The problem I see is that Americans have had it good for far too long...now that production can't keep up with demand...now that we are slowly destroying our planet with green house effect gases, it is only now that we are starting to pull our collective heads out of the proverbial sand and we are standing up and effecting a positive change...for our children. We are trashing the planet...time to move on to something smarter, cleaner and cheaper.

I am sick of sending my dollars overseas to some foreign country...they have the last laugh...

I think most people can see that big money has big influence in what goes on in Washington D.C. Many people might say that is just stating the obvious, but it will obviously not change as long as we accept that. Many people believe that it is futile. It has always been that way and it will always be that way. To me, that is giving up and you might as well throw in the towel now rather than prolong the agony, if that is your attitude.

I agree! It’s sad to see our government can put strict regulations on just about anything they want except oil. If it’s out of their hands to manage how and where we get our oil then perhaps they should mandate all new construction (commercial and residential) be "green". I believe that would be a good start and require less dependency of foreign oil.
