This is the same Pickens that Swiftboated John Kerry, right?

This is the same Pickens that Swiftboated John Kerry, right? Then reneged on his $1 Million dollar wager (twice) that nothing in the swift boat ads could be proven false, right? Yes, he's one and the same.

This is also the Pickens that has contributed more than $5 Million in campaign and political contributions to Gee Dubya and his neo-conservative cronies, the very ones that have polarized the country, told us we were invading Iraq because of non-existent WMDs etc. etc.

And now it turns out that it is ALL ABOUT THE OIL.

And here we have Slim Pickens telling us we all have to "get on the same page" and "be on the same team" and "elect the right leadership". I wonder if the Pickster thinks any of those "right" leaders ought to be Democrats?

Let's face it. I don't care how wealthy a mogul this guy is, he has absolutely zero credibility if you read his bio. Go ahead and read his Wikipedia bio with an unbiased eye, then tell me you trust this guy to tell us how to save the country. This guy trying to unify America is like Attila the Hun trying to unify Asia and Western Europe.

This is the plan! At least it is a plan! This administration has turned its back on the country and given us the highest oil price in the history of the planet. It is time to quit sending our wealth to our enemies! We must truly acknowledge the blind eye the occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania ave have turned against us and created a cash flow directly to our middle east adversaries.
I hope this plan grows legs and lifts America back up.

Sorry you're upset Long John Kerry didn't get elected. That was four years ago dipshit. We have serious energy issues now and that is what this website is about. I haven't heard any answers from your democrat buddies. You are all too worried about hurting an Alaskan polar bear to explore energy sources in the US.

Grow up, communist. If you have a better plan, share it genius.

8 years of Republican misdirection and Democrats that can't move forward demand new leadership from the grass roots. Mr. Pickens has made a very astute move and all Americans should get behind him. Wind and natural gas are just the beginning......but, they are a beginning!

Big changes are coming, world wide, and the U.S. must take the lead.

Recognize that there is a Carl with a big "C" on this blog and another carl with a little "c" on this blog.

For those of you who can't read a pie chart 50% of our power is generated from coal, 20% from gas, 20% from nuclear and a pittance from all the rest. The goal for all of us should be to support the creation or more efficiencies in the production and distribution of energy and to stop exporting $$ billions and trillions out of the country which oh by way weakens the $ which in turn drives up the price of oil even higher. Since there is no NOW means to turn around oil imports, the $ will continue to weaken and the price of oil will continue to rise. Get use to it. And in the meantime start something now that has a chance of changing the future.

Clinton's NAFTA and at the same time his behind the doors agreements with China making them a favored trading nation and also allowing them to fix their exchange rate against the dollar opened the gates for the flood of manufacturing and $$ to leave this country. And Clinton convinced the Congress (also at fault) to go along with him by promising the people cheaper and more competive products. Yes we got cheaper products and lost the competition because all the jobs went to China. Our $ going up or down has no effect on the China's massive imports to us. It will only change when we have no $$ to send them.

So the People got what they wanted - cheaper prices. And China and the middlemen got what they wanted - $$$ by the barrelful which then gave them the capital to build their industrial base - exponentially fast - which surprise of surprises needs oil to fuel it. What a concept. They now have the money to compete for oil in the world market.

So oil is going up and will continue. We need hybrid cars with big batteries charged by homegrown power. And the carbon side of the hybrid needs to be homegrown also. So let's trade the 20% of the pie chart that is natural gas for wind power and release the gas for hybrid cars.

What does that do? It creates jobs. It slows down the sucking sound of $$ leaving the country. It rebuilds the economy. It gives our kids something to look forward to.

And what about that 50% coal slice. I watch 2000 coal cars per day moving through Denver to the power plants to the south. 2000 coal cars per day passing through one city for just a part of one state. Wow. But that is Baseload power. When the wind stops and it usually does every morning in the plains until the Sun stirs up the atmoshere again, you will need that baseload power. Wind power won't be there and solar power won't be there at that time a day.

So folks had better start thinking nuclear. We know how to build them and there is a 1000 years of uranium available out West. And waste storage - guess what, in the 90's your gov't spent $2 Billion creating the largest and safest repository in the World for nuclear waste storage in central Nevada under Yucca mountain. After 100 years of putting spent fuel rods into it, we will be taking it out to reprocess it as technologies improve. But environmentalists won't let it open. $2 Billion!

If you are by "faith" against nuclear power, then lessen its growth and spread by your team leading the charge for laws mandating geo-thermal heat pumps and a 4000 watt solar cell roof panels in every new home and structure in the country.

I'm done, but...

Hey Eric - Mr Kerry lover. John Kerry opted out of the War by getting himself 3 Purple hearts - two self inflicted and one a scratch. No real men in America have any respect for an a-hole like him. And that is the real reason he lost and the real reason the SwiftBoaters all but one or two (who were on Kerry's payroll) stood shoulder to shoulder against him. And that is something you seem to have no concept of - honor at the grass roots level.

Pickens is 80 years old; he has seen many democrats and republicans cycle through the White House. His point with this project is to shake ALL of them out of their stupor and help this country be energy independent again.

We are addicted to oil in this country and we have not weaned ourselves even at the ‘old’ age of 236 years. How much longer should we continue to be dependent on others? You must know that we are sending our money and our jobs to other countries for a commodity that is becoming ever more scarce and therefore more expensive.

The Pickens Plan is an interim solution. This country must gain more time to develop other energy sources such as nuclear, solar, clean coal, oil from tar sands and oil shale, wave action, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And, at the same time, we must modify our infrastructure to handle these coming changes. I think T. Boone’s idea is a very good beginning and we must start now.

I have to wonder why it is an oil magnate is pushing alternative energy... Is he saying that every American should have his own solar or wind powered alternative?

I would think he has ulterior motives here which I find suspicious. Obviously, he didn't learn anything from the oil embargo of the 70's otherwise he would not have waited 30+ years to choose to speak out. Why wait so long to finally speak out about the direction this country was headed? Waiting for the country to be neck deep in it just does not make sense to me.

Scott says:. "Atleast he is trying."

The question is, what is he trying to do? Make up for past sins and failures?

Mike M. says: "Regardless of political views, i believe any alternative energy plan is good when it involves the private sector on a massive scale like this."

I am all for alternative energy. What I am not willing to do is allow BIG BUSINESS to control my energy any more. They have proven to be incapable to consider our needs.... which is hard to do when $$ is at stake.

Fact is all that Pickens has proven is he is a suave business man ready to pounce on another dream ticket to more $$.

Eric,

You have displayed the typical Liberal response to debate; jump topics when when all arguments fail. As many have asked, can you please tell where the Swiftboaters ads were false? As far as your remarks concerning Iraq just a couple of days ago uranium was found not to mention lower amounts of ricin and other gases discovered a couple of years ago. Also, if it were for the oil why wouldn't we have just gone in and taken control of the oil fields. Instead we are paying over $140 barrel for crude oil. Lastly, have you ever done research for a school paper of any sort? If so you would know that Wikipedia is an open source and therefore not considered valid. Meaning that anyone, including someone with biases such as yourself, can enter information into the site.

John Kerry swift boated himself Eric.

Eric,
You are a moron. Who cares if Pickens dislikes Kerry(He's an idiot/socialist). What we are trying to accomplish is independence from foreign energy. Pickens plan is great. We will get off foreign energy and use domestic energy that is eco-friendly. By the way wikipedia is not a reliable source, you should probably take a basic research class. Pickens is a business man who sees a good investment in alternative energy sources. As most of ya'll have forgotten we live in a capitalist society and Pickens is capitalizing on what is going to make money. Good for him. He can make all the money he wants. I am just sick of paying for oil and energy that goes to other countries that hate us and our way of life. T. Boone Pickens you are the man. Keep pushing your plan.

I don't care who swiftboated who. We are in a crisis, here. This T-Bone dude has a plan, and it can work. Do you want us to become an impoverished nation while both sides just argue? In Virginia both Democrats and Republicans can't agree on a transportation plan. The result? 2 and 1/2 hours to go 25 miles each way to work twice a day. If lawmakers don't agree to this or at least some similar plan, then they should be voted out no matter what their party.

Well, I have to admit I'm disappointed with the low level of discourse in this thread. Lets just divert attention from a real problem and debate about who is a scumbag. Sometimes people do the right thing for the wrong reason....Sure Pickens intends to make lots of money off his wind farm- he's put a lot of up front money into the concept when no one else has. But maybe its still the right idea? Thanks to yoursignalisbuster... I agree!
