sounds crazy. it is. I have tried to figue this one out. watch how an old train moves. burn wood to boil water to create steam to push a piston that moves the wheels. my idea is like that. instead is burning anything a small electric motor geared right pushes a piston. the piston is moved by water which works like the train. 2 lines connect to a transmission which creates the needed tourque to drive the wheeles. one line is supply the other is return. solar panels on the car can help gererate electricity to get the motor going. don't know if I describe it right. drawing it was easier.

HUH???!!!! Every time you convert energy from one form to another, you lose a part of it in efficiency losses...... Or, maybe you are describing a hydraulic drive instead of a mechanical coupling (it can be done, but is quite inefficient)? It's hard to tell from your description....
I'm not exaclty sure what is going on here.
Lol putting water in the pistons isn't going to make it do anything other than be wet. All you're really proposing is an electric car.
You suffer from a crisis of "curiosity deficit". Did you EVER wonder WHY the steam engine is no longer with us? Or, why steam is no longer produced and used in an expansion devise...like a steam locomotive? Or WHY a steam locomotive did NOT have a transmission?

Look up these words on the google and learn WHY the steam engine died. "Internal combustion engine" "External combustion engine" "Torque from steam power" "Steam engine efficiency" Diesel Engine efficiency" "Thermal efficiency of Steam engines"

Bottom line. The internal combustion engine is the darling of the masses and the bane of the Left Wing Wackos. It is the ONLY devise that can convert high density energy fuels (liquid gasoline and diesel) into pure power on demand and do it efficiently. I DO believe that WHATEVER methodology we choose as a fuel source for the future, the internal combustion engine will be at the heart of that decision. Not because we love it so, but, because IT WORKS.

I think your "drawing" is more Rube Goldberg (google THAT name) than the next device for our salvation from this fuel crisis. You seem like one who has a mind that wants to explore. Great/ Learn the basics of HOW we got to the position we did and WHY we use the engines and tool we do. This knowledge will free you to explore new and exciting methods of energy efficiency for the future. And remember this, "KISS, Keep it simple stupid" . When your design incorporates complexity, as yiurs surely does, it has built into it, inefficiency. Each device you build into a design ADDS an energy drag to it. Keep the design simple.
In 1969 I came up with this idea:
Two stage "boiler", stage one like an instant HW heater, feeds into a boiler above the small tubes, so you reuse the heat of the flame unit. Heat exchanger pre-heats the fluid going to the tubes. Radiator and compressor to return gas to liquid.
Don't use a piston engine, use a Wankel type rotary engine.
Lastly, don't use water. There are several fluids now available with vapor pressures close to that of water and with lower boiling points, and the gas produced is not corrosive like steam.
This will run on nat. gas, propane, ether, methane, alcohol, gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel, kerosene and in an emergency, wood, coal, animal fat or just about anything else that can burn.
Startup time is short, torque is almost as good as a steam piston, HP curve is better.
Before you answer, think about this. Any good mechanical engineers live near a junkyard? Most of what you need to build a working vehicle can be found there.

a closed loop system with the rotary engine design woul be better. Have you seen how a double pump works. you can fill a ball in both directions brilliant design.

I admit that I don't have a great Idea, it is an idea. and that is what we are doing here.
