Take the time to call HARRY REID and SPEAKER PELOSI TODAY! they run congressPosted by Ed "AceEyeEd" Fowler on July 16, 2008 at 5:43am in Everything Else

Everyday the congress has a lower rating then the president.

HARRY REID runs the Senate Speaker Pelosi runs the House

every time they give a proposal , I can shoot holes in it without much thought.

Like the profit, the pollution, the leases....I can go on and on.
When I call and write my Maryland leaders I get the same BS and run around.

No doubt the alternatives we have all discussed will work over time. That is the key word over time. We need drilling NOW!

It is not bush at this point. He leaves in Jan 09.

The Speaker & congress has not even extended the regular SOLAR rebates, or the one for energy rebates for windows, AC, insulation. that is ridiculous.

Granted if you can't keep the price of oil high above 100$ a barr. then the other things do not make a good financial investment.

and please look at all alternative Fuels for the transport and you find that 90% still take oil and Nat gas. So drill Drill drill

Ban watercraft and recreational boating, too much pollution on the water.

What has bankrupted our nation is greedy mortgage lenders.
And BS projects. Pyramid plans from Roosevelt days. SSA,MED etc.

it started in oct 1973 the amount of oil the US produced has fallen to half today.
spans Carter, reagan , bush sr, clinton , bush
so yes not one party .

oil moguls, Train moguls, Coal moguls, steel , on and on.
depending on history lots of moguls

What is holding things up is vote in the senate and house.
who is the boss there, Speaker and majority whip.

Nothing has been done by congress on anything. worst session in history.
Read this web site - pbs.org/newshour/bb/environment/jan-june01/ener_a.html

You might want to read a few more articles by clicking on the left margins.

After you review, you will have my answer to your question. Yes PBS is liberal leaning news program and network so I am sure they would not lie or misrepresent the facts.
In a perfect world let's say the oil companies leap into action immediately and formulate plans to begin more drilling to bring home the oil. Anyone have a realistic estimate when the American refineries can expect to see the first drop of this new oil? Keep in mind the planning process, the extremely effecient perrmit process, and the actual construction of the rigs themselves all add to the mess. By the way, I remember hearing somewhere that more oil will not produce more gasoline at the pump as the refineries are pretty much maxed out on capacity now (but I am sure those are quick and easy to build and no one would mind a new refinery in their town). Someone please tell me I am wrong and we can expect to see gasoline prices coming down in within the next decade. Please!
Dan,

There are two platforms sitting ready off Santa Barbara that can pump in months, refineries can expand "on site" in a short time. Alaska oil can be in the market around two to three years, gulf oil can be in the 2-5 year range.

The above being said, after the Presidential restriction on offshore drilling was lifted last week, spot (futures) prices are don over 10% and if congress would approve offshore and nuclear expansion the spot price will drop to below $ 90.00 per barrel. The supporters of alternate energy, no oil-gas, no nuclear group want oil to stay over $ 100.00 per barrel to keep solar, wind, biofuels etc competitive in the free? market.

Gas prices will come down in January; Bloomberg financial is predicting oil at less than $ 90.00 in January 2009. OPEC will drop prices because demand is going down and supply in America is going up.
It is measured in years and the longer they wait, the longer it will take to reach the pump. They need to build some refineries to handle a major increase in oil production.
I agree, it only takes 5 minutes to make a call or fax a letter. Your voice will be heard.

Many, many times I myself have felt compelled by something in the news that just didn't sit right for me, and I found myself penning a letter or placing a call to my local Legislator or Congressman.

Once I even found myself contacting out of state Governor's over something that was occuring within their state that profoundly impacted an issue occuring within my state as well. I guess I just wanted to be heard fully.

I will make the calls and send the letters to the representatives over this off shore drillng. What state is so powerful and important that it would prevent the citizens of this country from claiming complete independence on foreign energy?

With most of our military bases (Naval) located along the eastern seaboard and the california coast, i would understand those districts being exempt. But the Gulf of Mexico and the bordering states on the western rim should not have that much of an effect on this exploration.
Reid and Pelosi are standing firm on not drilling off the coasts of the USA when we all know it can be done in a safe and clean way now a days.

Send them the message we are now 47000 strong and growing fast!"

It is time to boycott both Las Vegas and San Fran since the two (Reid and Pelosi) don't want us to have our resources. Until their voters feel the pain they will remain in power and block any progress for the American people.

If we took Las Vegas and SF offline will we have enough energy now to replace the gas as Pickens wants to get from building windmills? Maybe we need to sacrifice these two cities for the good of America?
I believe the Scandanavians are on the cutting edge of safe, clean, efficient offshore drilling. We need to utilize their expertise and technology.
Norway has been involved in drilling and production in the North Sea since the late 1960's. Interestingly enough the largest company involved is the state owned company Statoil. I worked on one of their platforms from 1987 to 1994. It was certainly far superior to the rigs I worked on in both the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. However, even with all the technology they have developed there have been a number of disasters.
Keep calling all week-end long!
Lets freak them out with a jammed message machine...haha.
Oh yea of little faith and lots of hate,

T.Boone and his Mesa Partners have billions and they will make billions more because the are on the winning side of the energy argument. TBP is trying to help America solve a 30+++ year leadership battle over energy production in America. Democrats have blocked any attempt to increase domestic energy production from nuclear, coal, and oil/gas.

TBP see the economic impact on the average person and how it will reduce the standard of living of working Americans. He does not need to get out in front and take the cheap shots from negative people like you, he is doing it for the future of the country. He is an old man and will not be here to see the completion of his plan. So, to quote the old saw, "IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY, THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL".
Keep calling and emailed dont stop!
We all need to do it everyday.
