PickensPlan

I read the CNN interveiw about House Speaker Pelosi's comment on President Bush's performance. I agree he has been bad for our country but why should he shoulder the blame by himself. He is the President but he could not put us in this state without the help of his adminstration, the Congress, the Senate and the Judicial branch. I think we should consider that even we as voters should shoulder some of the blame because we put these people in office who had their own agenda and we should have had the fix voting reveiwed and asked more quesions about their earmark bills. We all let so much go far and get so very bad. I reflect on this often and I find it very hard to look at the children who will have to inherit this land.

I would add that Exxon has paid $60,000,000,000 in taxes this year, to the federal government. Why doesn't Wolf Blitzer take his calculator and figure out that is TEN Billion per month to Federal Government and only $3.3 Billion in Profit per month for shareholders? When oil is cut off that is $10 Billion less per month in taxes to spend.

I do have one question though - Do people want Russia, China or Nigeria drilling instead of Exxon? What type of environmental damage will be caused by those countries? We will continue using oil as it will continue being an energy source for decades to come. We need plan like PickensPlan to move into alternatives but that will take action by the congress which is now on a month long vacation. Good Grief Charlie Brown!

Exxon reported record profits but had the nerve to be disappointed that it was not higher. Talking about giving us the finger. This company has no shame. It cares little for the country that they operate in but why should they care. It is the politician from both ends of the aisle that allow them to work with impunity. Just as Country Wide put us in a mortgage melt down and was merged by a bank. Big business takes care of business. Our votes don't count because our elections are for the most part fixed. It all so upsetting.

May I ask a question? I know our system isn't perfect. Faaaaaaaar from it. But if one is going to hold to the idea that our votes dont' count and our elections are mostly fixed....then why bother to even vote. I humbly apologize, but that sounds very much like a defeatist attitude.

Yes, I agree that big business takes care of big business. Then the government sticks their big fingers in the situation. Goes from bad to worse. Let's not forget that we are supposed to be a country who embraces Free Enterprise. But...this is where I start getting into deep water, in which I don't know how to swim...so I'll hush.

Lex,
When looking at a problem I like to take it back to it's "n'th" degree...the basic starting point. This is MY opinion:

You mentioned our Founding Fathers and what amazing men they were. I've put some thought into this and what I believe is that their character and mind set had alot to do with their education. My husband and I decided to home school our daughter, pulling her out of public school when she finished 3rd grade. A few years later, after reading an autobiography on John Adams (maginificent!) I started to realize something. Our Founding Fathers all received what we in the home school 'business' are calling a "Classical Education". Most of them were attending University around the age of 16 or so. They were well read, articulate and KNEW the importance of education as a lifelong pursuit.

Now, here's where I might draw some flack but this is my opinion so...deal with it. ;-) If you couple a good, well-rounded education with a grounded and balanced Biblical education, which teaches you morals, responsiblity AND accountability to God, your fellow man and yourself and love...then you have the recipe which is responsible for the great men who gave birth to an idea, had the internal fortitude to stand until that idea became reality AND nurture it to continuing maturity. God was not put in a box to be taken out on Sunday mornings then put away for the rest of the week. Their Belief was not for show. They LIVED what they believed. Why did George Washington do the things he did? make the sacrifices that he made? He didn't even want to be President. He just wanted to farm his land. He did it because of a God-given responsibility that he acknowledged and accepted. Because he loved his God and this country: the ideal, the land and the People.

I whole heartedly agree with you Lex, when you say that we need someone in the high offices of government whose only 'special interest' is The People. A preacher will only be a preacher if he's only interested in the number of seats he fills in his church and the size of the church's bank account. He becomes a Pastor...a Shepherd...when he's concerned with the welfare (body, mind and spirit) of his 'neighbor' and his 'brother'. A President is only a president if his agend is full of either his own selfish aspirations or those of the people close to him (and they are usually close to him only for their own selfish aspirations). He becomes a true Leader when he's humble enough to know he doesn't know everything and his main concern is for the true welfare (body, mind and spirit) of The People.

The American People have given up so much by either not voting or voting under the influence of feeling, emotion or mis-information. So many Americans today want their information spoon fed to them just like their education was spoon fed to them. They don't want to ask the hard questions because they don't want to hear the hard answers...IF they could find someone to give them hard answers. If we could get the kind of President that I feel most of in this Forum are seeking...he would most likely not be elected for a second term because he would have to cut 'this' and minimize 'that' and totally do away with so many things. Americans might have to "suck it up" and "bite the bullet".

There is an article in this week's local newspaper about an elderly woman who has been volunteering to serve ice cream at the school cafeteria for years now. Before she did that she was tutoring...before that she worked several different accounting jobs in various local businesses...before that she did window displays on 'the square'...before that she quit school during WW I to work in a sewing room that related to the war. She said she made the sacrifice because her country and her family needed the help. The local high school just gave her an honorary diploma. She had lacked 1 1/2 credits to be able to graduate when she quit. She had said all these years that was her only regret; not having graduated. How many people today of yours and my generation and younger do you think would do that for their country or their family? There are some...but not as many as there used to be.

These are all reasons I teach my own children. They are getting a well-rounded, balanced academic education. I insist they have a Scriptural and Spiritual (Christian) education as it applies to life, the universe and everything. I insist they learn to teach themselves. Momma isn't always going to be there to hold their hand and prod them into learning or thinking or making the right decision. My hope is that through my children I can make a difference in this country. Until then, I will actively do what I can personally.

As for the Exxon train of thought....I have some opinions but I don't feel knowledgable enough to be comfortable expressing them. So far, I can say that as far as I understand what you're saying...I agree with you, Lex.

I am so proud of the Pickens Plan and the great ideas and comments borne of this initiative and “Army” that is growing exponentially. However, I do have one very serious concern.

It is quite clear that this current administration is posturing and readying for unprecedented events in the Middle East. These new “open dialogues” and communication with Iran are all guises that will inevitably lead towards a US backed attack on Iran by Israel that will eventually lead to the US becoming fully immersed in a much more serious war in the Middle East. Iran is not Iraq and they will fight back.

All of this will happen just after the RNC convention in September, probably in conjunction with a terrorist attack on American interests or our sovereignty. Bush will enact emergency directives NSPD51 / HSPD20 thus suspending our upcoming 2008 general election.

We must start educating Americans as to the real reason we attacked Iraq… and that was to gain control of there oil production and trade. In June of 2008 several large Oil Companies, including Exxon Mobil (huge profits), moved into Iraq to control the many platforms and refineries, but more importantly this oil production is back to trading in dollars rather than Euros. When Saddam switched to the Euro in 2000, he defined his fate, 9/11 was allowed to happen due to the discountenance of the abundance of intelligence, and we attacked Iraq.

The same thing is happening with Iran. Their Oil Bourse is trading in Euro, thus the steadily weakening dollar. Iran has no intention of using nuclear weapons or bombing Israel. To do so would only define their fate and destruction. It is the United States that plans to escalate aggression with Iran and gain control of their oil production and move back to trading in dollars.

What does this have to do with the Pickens Plan?

All of these great grass root campaigns, ideas, movements, meetings, development, deployment and publicity will be put on hold as we tune into mainstream media to watch the slow destruction of our world. Once things escalate in the Middle East there will be other unprecedented aggressions by other Countries (e.g. China, Taiwan, North/South Korea, etc) and before we know it we will be immersed in World War III.

We need to STOP BUSH/CHENEY in there tracks, right now! But this is a monumental task. They will stage some kind of event that will make Iran look like the aggressor thus starting the wheels in motion. I do not have the definitive answer but all of these wonderful grass roots Pickens Plan initiatives are in jeopardy if Bush/Cheney are allowed to proceed with their underlying plans.

All of this is just my humble opinion. Please perform your own due diligence.

I am sorry I have not responded sooner. I have MS and I was so very week but I have been following your letters. I think the Picken plan works but I don't understand the long wait. Thanks for your letter.

Pelosi - what a total fake/failure. She shut off the microphones and lights in the House of Reps today and went off on vacation without addressing the energy crisis at all. Get rid of her!!!

It's simple princess nancy must be defeated at all cost. Get the sorry bitch out of Airforce 3 a older Kerosene burning 747 and back in DC getting an energy plan passed NOW. George W. needs to call congress back into an 'EMERGENCY SESSION" to get it done. /Thomas

I watched Obama's speech yesterday where he laid out his energy plan. I must admit, this is the first time I've heard him speak. He is an eloquent and easy speaker...smoooooth. But, I couldn't help thinking about what all y'all were thinking if you were watching. Am I the only one that noticed he brought up the bi-partisan energy plan? He said it was full of good stuff...alternative energy funding, etc. But...he didn't mention that it didn't get voted on or that it was the Dem's that left....yeah...they really did turn out the lights, literally, when they left the main room...and the Republicans stayed...least for a little while. Ok, maybe the Repubs decided they'd stay just for show but makes ya kinda wonder about what would have happened if the Dems actually called their bluff and stuck around. Maybe something would have gotten done?

Obama also said he wants the government to retool old factories in Michigan to be able to produce "plug-in" hybrid automobiles. How does anyone else feel about gov't sticking their fingers into the automotive industry...more than it already is? And how much will these cars cost? Will the lower middle class and under be able to afford an energy efficient car or will we continue in our gas guzzlers? There's always my plan to start using horse n buggy.

And this is a general, across-the-board criticism about all political candidates: Why do they constantly say, "If elected President, I'll do "this" and "that" and "the other"!" They can only do what Congress and The Supreme Court allows. I recorded the speech and let hubby watch when he got home. He asked if we were electing a President or a King. If Obama gets Pres, the Republicans will make a mad push to get control of Congress next elections and will probably get it done. Then we'll have the same thing all over again. It's never about doing what's right for The People...it's about having your Party in control. I think we need to start writing and contacting both Presidential candidates now and expressing our displeasure at the Party Politics; insisting on some good, ol' fashioned "what's best for The People", 'get 'er done' kind of government. Then as soon as Congressional elections start, do the same thing. As a group (Pickens Plan) and individually, we need to let them know we're tired of politics as usual. This goes for both Repubs and Dems. Tell them to get the job done or we'll get them out.
