PickensPlan

Nothing sharpens your focus like having your back against the wall while facing a powerful foe.

That's where we, as a society, are right now. Most of us just don't recognize it.

We are in a whole lot of trouble. The age of fossil fuel will end in our children's lifetime. If we fail to develop alternative sources of energy, they may not have the opportunity to grow grey hair.

For your children's sake, please invest as much time as you can afford reading the archives of some great sites like...

Anybody want to buy my Oahu timeshare?
Where is the discussion of electric cars, domestic drilling, and nuclear power to produce electricity in Mr. Pickens' plan? This is a great start and I sincerely appreciate his visionary leadership but we need to include these other components in an all out effort to get off of foreign oil. When you consider that the Saudis have been using the money they make off selling oil to the United States to fund radical Islamic fundamentalists (Wahabbi schools, etc.) who want to destroy Western civilization in general and the United States in particular, it makes your blood boil. Come on! Let's pull out ALL of the stops and wean our dependence on foreign oil completely as soon as possible. If I hear one more person say that "but domestic drillling will take 5-10 years to make a dent" I will whack that person in the head in hopes of jarring their brain into proper function. We have been hearing that excuse for 40 years now. Had we done what we should have done then, we would not be in the state that we are now. Instead, we would have increased domestic production 30-35 years ago. This is not to say that I don't support all the other forms (with the exception of ethanol) of alternative energy but when your house is burning you don't limit your firefighting efforts to using only French bottled water, you use whatever you can to put the fire out fast.
Hay, I'm just a little ol' retired lady here in Texas but I still have my 2 cents worth. It's been my belief for years that the technology for a 100 mile per gallon engine has been out there for a very long time but in my most humble opinion, it's been bought off by big oil. Also, why in the name of all that's holy, are we still sending space shuttles out in space, costing tax payers God only knows the cost, when we can't even solve the many problems here on Tera Firma?? It just really makes me wonder what is really, really going on?

Speaking of our next president......frankely, Obama scares the living h**l out of me! I've never voted Republican in my life but I will this year!
I agree with Jackie, There are a lot of high mpg solutions out there that have been held up by either big oil or big governent.
Well, dear, you're probably right as rain. Didn't mean to imply that we shouldn't look into alternative energy. Far from it...we do, and not now but yesterday. I swore off 2 wheelers years ago when I nearly got killed riding one. I can see that happening a lot of folks in the near future with so many out there buying those death machines, trying to save money on gas, and having no clue how to ride them.
I think T. Boon in on the right road and like he says, it's gonna take a whole lot of money to get on the road to wind power or solar or nucular power, which ever way it goes, we'll need mucho dinero and I think putting the space program on hold until we figure it out should be done now. Whada ya' tink?
I feel sorry for the next president... whoever it is.

He will have to face the mother of all storms.
Thanks for the resources, and here is another one, my blog dedicated to promoting American energy independence.

Knowledge Implemented is Power!
What do you say Americans, do we have leaders that can make it happen?

Take Care

Andrea,

Tourism in Hawaii is in for some rough times ahead. I live in Orlando and by far our number one industry is tourism - not sure about Hawaii.

The airlines have 2-3 years left, I think. They are living on borrowed time now (and possibly smartly purchased oil futures bought sometime ago such as the case with Southwest).

Though we are surrounded by timeshares down here, I haven't taken the time to really contemplate their future. I have no idea what their business model looks like at $200/bbl.

If it were me, I would sell if I could. That's my two cents, anyway.
