Even though ethanol might be a future resource of energy the way our government has decided to pursue this is absolutely stupid! it takes as much energy to produce then what its output is but all this is besides the point. In gas stations they are charging more or less the same for gas that has ethanol, compared to those who don't but the problem with this is that ethanol burns 30% faster then regular gas so you get 30% less out of 10% of the gas you buy so try and avoid any gas station that supplement their gas with ethanol.

"DON'T FUEL UP ANYWHERE THAT HAS 10% ETHANOL"

If we could just get a national news to say this.
Don Heichel, didn't you hear Mr. Pickens claim the energy crisis is a problem "we can't drill ourselves out of"? Blaming our energy crisis on one political party, let alone the Democrats, is not constructive and only adds to the noise that prevents our government from effectively solving pressing issues.

Anyway, anyone near a Kwik Fill station (PA, NY, OH) should go there. They don't use ethanol and sell only North American gasoline. The bulk of the oil comes from Canada, and it's refined in Pennsylvania.

If you're worried about your fuel economy, changing your driving habits will have the greatest impact. Drive slower; don't go over 60 on the highway. Accelerate more slowly. Pay attention to the road so you don't need to break as often. Perform regular maintenance on your vehicle. All of these will have more of an impact on your MPG than anything.
Yes-- it is a big political SCAM! Burning your food supply is a really dumb idea! Congress MANDATED the production of Ethanol and it's addition to the gasoline supply, and supports it with huge incentives.
Pure gasoline= borrow money from China to pay Middle Easterners. Money ends up in questionable hands.

Ethanol= pay U.S. farmers, and recycle the money here. Stop funding those who do not have our best interests at heart.

My choice is clear.

visit http://e85prices.com

for a list of local stations near you. More than 1640 nationwide, and growing at a quick pace.

If there wasn't ethanol being added, the price would be 50 cents higher already for gasoline. Ethanol is good for America.
Lancaster Ca, just approved a Garbage to Ethanol plan for the local dump...

now thats Ethanol I can agree with...
I agree to disagree. I use up the american subsidized tax money for a process that works inefficiently. I work for the ethanol industry but I dont believe in it. My gas gets less MPG in my car . I don't know what kind of money you make but it hurts my blue collar wallet. I love that we are spending the money in the USA but it still hurts. I do agree if we are going to throw money around, I would rather they throw it around to us.....PROUD Americans....
"Understand that ethanol's octane rating is about 120; it does contain less BTU's per gallon, but the main problem with mileage is you're running it through an engine designed for 87 octane gazoline"

So true. With the octane of Ethanol it would work very well in a very high compression engine that would have detonation like crazy with 87 unleaded.

I've considered converting my turbocharged vehicle to E85 to be able to run higher boost, but it would require a new computer for it.
Ethanol is good for America.

But it's bad for my car. Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a FlexFuel vehicle.

I'll stick with my $0.20 higher Chevron gas. Which still comes out cheaper when I consider how fast my car consumes gas with Ethanol in it. I sware I loose 5-7 mpg with 10% ethanol.
Ethanol is a great idea, just the way the current administration has promoted it has produced some glaring inefficiencies. They keep promoting corn as the source for ethanol when corn crops require irrigation in dryer climates and produce less sugar than many other crops. The sugar in corn is also held in the form of starch and has to be changed to sugar in order to get the maximum alcohol content.

Why this government has not backed Sweet Sorghum as the main source of ethanol is beyond me. This is a crop that requires less water and withstands droughts better than corn. Sweet Sorghum can be grown on many unirrigated plots in the drier climates and produces 2 to 3 times as much alcohol per acre as corn. It could be grown on many corners and other areas of fields that are not irrigated and are being left fallow - thus having less effect on the food supply. Even the Chineese Government have taken sweet sorghum back to China to test as a ethanol source to be grown in western areas where they have less rain fall.
they should be promoting Hemp and Algae , the farmers still benefit. and so does the consumer.

Just to reply to the guy who said that the reason my car doesn't get as good miles per gallon cause it's meant to run on 87 octane doesn't know what they are talking about because i have a mercedez c230 that only takes premium fuel and placing ethanol in it still greatly reduces my mpg by about 5 miles. So research and do more before you speak like you know what your talking about.
