I am concern about our Environment, and I understand our Feather Friends ( Birds ) could be in danger with Wind Farms.

K Brennan, Thanks for the update, I'm begining to feel more comfortable about wind farms, which could be one way to provide power to rural areas, not sure about metropolitan areas.
So lets start by boycotting MacDonalds ......Hey, PETA, how about telling the world that the greenest thing you can do is to become VEGETARIAN. It takes 10 lbs of soybeans to make one pound of beef. THe land used to feed every herd of cattle and sheep and goats in the world is land that is not used to raise food we can eat ourselves. Cave menm in europ lived primarilly on hazel nuts, wild greens, wild fruit and betrries , and other nuts. WIthout spending our grains and corn on animal feed (and fuel) we could easilly feed all the starving populations comfortable.
And on the matter of wind generators hurting birdies, Windfarms should not belocated in bird migration areas. The wind farm thirty miles from my home does not wipe out birds, because it is in a dry area with no trees, nothing of interest to birds.

I care about birds and other animals too. But seriously, if you care about animals, stop making sandwiches of their bodies, and start eating more vegetables and nuts. THey dont have sad eyes.
Auntie Tutu, I agree we should all try and wean our selfs off of as much red meat as possible, if no other reason than for our health.

I think Mr Pickens should consult with the people that know the Migratory path the birds take, and refrain from putting Wind Turbines in that radius.
Pat Jack, That made for very intresting reading and was very precise in it's description of my feather friends and wind turbines. Thank You for your insight!
Every answer also has a problem.. So how big a problem is oil creating, compared to switching to all renewable energy from wind and solar? I would take that problem any day, compared to the EXTINCTION of all life on the planet with more carbon based fuels being used.

Part of the answer to this whole oil supply problem is to make all states energy deregulated as Texas and New York are. Give people a choice of switching to green energy through their energy provider. Deregulation leads to choices, incentives and lower prices, as these two states show, and the website illustrates specifically, with real world prices you can check on from many providers.

In regulated states, there is no choice and utilities have a monopoly hold on everything. They will not change, or if they do, it will take another fifty years. They have a strangle hold on everyone and will not let them go..it feels kind of like being in Egypt back in the Old Testament days. Consumers are powerless and helpless for the most part, and are dictated to by oil companies and utilities who buy their carbon fuels.

By contrast, if customers have a choice, as they do for long distance service, then they can switch FAST. Consumers can easily switch to a green energy company that supplies all of their power from wind for example.

Consumer demand will drive the green market as well as investors who will supply it to the demand, rather than utilities freezing everyone out of choice and forcing everyone into extinction due to burning carbon based fuels and 10,000 years of buildup of toxic radioactive fuels.

The only thing left is education, which means that green energy providers hire sales people who will educate first, and then sell green energy to consumers who are truly AWARE and making an INFORMED choice.

Make a difference, save the planet www.energy526site.com

Quick electric rate comparison website for deregulated Texas and New York and green power sign up, if you want it today. www.electricityratescompared.info

At the sites above, you can see much more in depth information, compare rates if you live in Texas or New York and sign up for green power if you live in those states.. Also, find out how to actually make this green energy thing HAPPEN, TODAY.

We cannot wait another thirty years for the government or anyone else to save us. We have the power NOW to change things TODAY.
Unfortunately, the wind turbines are a hazard for birds. This article says that a total of 2,236 birds from four targeted species, the golden eagle, red-tailed hawk, American kestrel and burrowing owl, were killed annually at the Altamont Windfarm in Livermore, CA.

Maybe if there were some sparkly streamers or such it would warn them.
the part i really dont undertand is why are some of the most skilled flyers getting killed by slow moving turbines. you would think if that was the case they would run into communication towers, high rises, trees. sorry this just dont make much sense.
before anyone jumps all over me for this they should know that i care about wildlife and support protecting them from mans growth.
but this just dont make sense because i have watched them fly to avoid the smallest of things
