People's Petition

Letter #1
Dear Senator Hutchison,

Being a native Houstonian and also one who has always supported you with my 1 vote; I'm asking what our party is doing about the energy problem as T. Boone Pickens is. I have no esteem for Al Gore nor any of his interests which I will not elaborate on. I'm interested in Texas and my party.

I know a few Republicans recently visited ANWR to see for themselves that it is land that will serve no benefit except to the American people. As Boone says and even Al Gore agrees, we import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year. Why are we supporting other developing countries that despise us instead of us using our own resources? Is a tree or owl more important than the people? The fires in California are removing trees because of the weather, not man. Global Climate change? I think the focus of that needs to be directed towards China, Russia, and other developing countries trying do enjoy the lifestyle we had with the money we have given them for their oil!

On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. Meanwhile, I aim to help convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. As you are my Senator, I and Texas know that you are concerned, but what are we who drill for oil on our land and waters doing about it?

Boone Pickens is the only individual that I have seen promoting, and spending his own money to implement a plan. Doesn't our government have any plans or is it up to the voters to do it? I plan to vote for John McCain because what other choice do I have?

I realize that you can not actively support Boone, but it seems you can admire the spirit and devotion to our state and country for his efforts to actually do something instead of just talking about this subject.

The Pickens Group is doing what they can which is at least getting our citizens to talk about it and hopefully contact our elected officials such as yourself to do more. This is pathetic that our country won't use it's own resources: what good will the beauty of America be if none of us can afford to see it due to the lack of energy to get to it?

Hopefully this e-mail is being placed with hundreds of thousands of others that you will use to get our government to do their job!

Thank you for all your work Senator.

Respectfully,

LETTER # 2:

Greetings!
America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. T. Boone Pickens has been an oil man all his life, but he now emphatically states that “this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil.”

On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. Meanwhile, I aim to help convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. As you are my Congressional representative from this district I want to begin my efforts with you.

To get these changes done, Boone needs our help. Check out the plan. If you think it's worth fighting for, please join the effort.

Some people (cynics) say: "What's in it for Pickens"? I say, who cares! At 80 years old and a billionaire several times over it doesn't really matter how much his estate will be worth eventually. He's given more to charity than 1000 ordinary citizens. More importantly and a better question is, what's in it for US? Answer - our energy independence. Are you tired of seeing hard earned money sent over to our sworn enemies? Will it be painful to see our great country slip into 2nd place, then 3rd place, etc. in the world thanks to our short sighted addiction to oil? I'm sure it will be. Please get outraged and riled up and then please do something meaningful about it. I encourage you to meet with Mr. Pickens and begin to work together on the practical aspects of his plan.

Thank you for reading,

LETTER # 3:
Dear [insert appropriate term, i.e.Senator]:

It is time for a 21st century revolution.

I am certain you share with me the desire to live in an energy independent country. Similarly, I assume you would like to prevent more of United States capital from going to countries that choose to use it against us, not to mention our contributing to the augmentation of other countries while we suffer losses. In lieu of the fact that we have failed previously to take action to avoid this country’s current situation, we should be especially determined in applying an American pioneer spirit toward the development and usage of domestic resources.
[Insert link to Pickens video, if communicating by email. Provide link, if communicating in writing.]

As my [insert appropriate term here, i.e. senator, or modify as needed], you probably realize the swelling concern I, along with my fellow [insert state or national denomyn, i.e. Texans, here], have about the growing need for alternative energies. I aim to help convince you and all sectors of our government to promote changes toward cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. I ask what steps you taking to address this concern. Are you being aggressive enough to get the job done?

T. Boone Pickens is an individual who is introducing, promoting and trying to implement a plan, through an investment of his own time and money. I realize you cannot actively support Mr. Pickens, but I challenge you and the full government - of the people - to investigate his ideas, listen to his plan and make use of his endeavors. If you are not fully versed in the Pickens Plan, please visit his website: He has single handedly started the revolution to move us forward in becoming energy independent.

By way of the Pickens Plan website, concerned and interested parties are able to gather as a group, share ideas and options, and spread the word. Our collective efforts include contacting our elected (and appointed) officials, such as you, eager in getting you to join us in doing more. I feel hopeful that this e-mail will be added to the other hundreds of thousands requesting our government do its job, and do it well.

Thank you for all your work Senator. [insert appropriate term here, i.e. Senator]

Letter # 4
Dear (Insert Presidential Candidate, Senator, Representative, or State Legislator name):

Over $700 billion of this nation’s wealth is transferred to foreign countries this year as a result of the burgeoning U.S. trade deficit. Every credible economist agrees that no society, even one as great as America, can withstand such a colossal wealth transfer away from its shores. Finally a strategy has emerged to attack this problem, and in so doing bring tremendous benefits to our economy, decrease U.S. unemployment, and provide for a cleaner environment. This strategy is called the Pickens Plan. Along with tens of thousands of fellow members, this plan has attracted hundreds of thousands of supporters in a very short time. Why? It simply makes sense.

The Pickens Plan starts with America's natural resources of wind and natural gas. Wind as a major source of energy for our homes and businesses. Natural gas as a major source of transportation fuel for our current and future vehicles. The Pickens Plan is an important step forward in freeing America from the strangle hold of foreign oil.

I support the Pickens Plan, and as my (Senator/Representative) I want you to support it as well!

Sincerely,

(Your Name Here)

Sample INVITE followup email (use from your own email preferably or use Invite feature on PP site)
Subject line: win-win

<>The Pickens Plan movement will help the US develop a decent energy policy
<> Pickens supports the rollout of ALL viable alternative energy solutions
<> Pickens is putting his money where his mouth is
<> Saudi Arabia and their American stooges do not support this Plan...sounds like win-win

I don't know much but I do know this:

<>There is no better viable Plan right now
<>People are slow to move
<>What counts is what you are FOR, not what you are AGAINST
<>I'll keep asking until the Plan can boast 1 million members, voters all.

Thank you for reading.

There I found a really great document; HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; just copy and paste it into your browser: http://api.ning.com/files/xl4*6mKfYgMix*-cga4WtivetVAavz*IwMeJyDa6zvyfkg6NoGycog27*3UtFTtBsckh2haHvU-2Q373495jLFS3tPxMf1Mb/yourlettertoyourcongressman.doc____Hi all -__If you are typical or like me simply lazy, you haven't gone much beyond just being a “member” of the Pickens Plan website group. Which is to say, you are listed and counted as a member, get email updates from the site, may have contributed a few comments to discussions...and that's about it. Even if the Plan garners 1M "members", at this low level of participation they will be of little use. Talk is cheap and frankly so is posting to a discussion group! Here's what an army of supporters (which is what Pickens is calling you guys, an army) ought to do:

Urge everyone to PUSH the plan. Send emails to all your Contacts for example. The easiest way is to use the INVITE feature right on the Pickens website to contact everyone in your Address Book. Even better would be to use your own email program to send these important messages out, because many of the ones sent using the Pickens Plan website may simply end up in your recipients Bulk mail folder. Its not going to do anyone any good if it ends up there. The Plan website gives you the choice of adding your own optional message to the Invite. Maybe some of you would like to provide us lazies with sample messages so we can just cut and paste the one we like best in. Its all about making it as easy as possible for the army to march I believe.

I'm sure many of you can write much better than I can. Please post your letters HERE so we'll all have plenty of ammunition. Thank you.

Hi Phil, I FAXed the following letter to my Congressman and both Senators today. Faxes get delivered almost as quickly as emails but they have much greater impact. If you would like a convenient FAX option go to www.rapidfax.com. I subscribed to their service yesterday. $7.50/month for 150 pages and the first month is free. Here is the letter. If you like it, post it on this group site.

"Re: Support, co-sponsor, and vote for the American Energy Act

Dear Senator :

We are just starting a long journey into energy independence and we do not yet know all the roads we will have to take to reach our destination but the American Energy Act is an excellent start and I urge you to support it enthusiastically and vigorously. There will be many temptations to be distracted but this is a long term project that will require long term focus.

Our economic strength and even our national security will erode to the point of beggary and embarrassment if we do not assure our energy independence. No other program or objective at the national or state levels can be funded for long without solving the energy problem.

Solving the energy problem will involve enabling rather than hindering every manner of innovation that the fruitful inventiveness of the American people can and will devise. We are depending on you to “grease the wheels” of bureaucracy to allow the market to choose which technology will best serve our needs. Make sure that competition is fair. Keep the playing field level so that little guys are not stomped on by Big Oil or other sectors with mountains of money to spend. Make sure that no inventions, with potential to benefit the average American, gets purchased and pocketed (taken off the market for interminable study). A new fuel cell membrane that is 100 million times more efficient at separating hydrogen from oxygen than existing technologies has been developed at MIT. Be sure this gets high priority for development. We could be closer to independence than we ever thought possible.

We want clean energy: wind, solar and hydrogen. Give these guys a lot of elbow room. Help them with development and infrastructure. We still need petroleum and lots of it while new technologies are developed. Let’s do drill and drill now but make sure we protect our natural resources while we do it.

I believe that the oil companies have benefited egregiously from recent (and current) exorbitant prices and that they should be required to invest those profits in the infrastructure to fuel vehicles with CNG and Hydrogen. Any windfall profits that are not absorbed in infrastructure should be devoted to a fund to retrofit all existing vehicles to use the new cleaner fuels. Some believe that they would just find ways to add that cost to the cost the consumer is already paying. I believe you can find people who are smart enough to devise regulations and monitoring systems to assure that they do not engage in such practices and I encourage you to do so. As justification for denying them arbitrary increases in price to pay for these investments, I believe they should own the infrastructure their money pays for and benefit from its use. This should satisfy investors who own so much oil company stock in their pension funds.

Sincerely,

Emails are so easy, email every single state Legislator in the entire country. You can put every single Legislator in the BCC: line of your email and you can find all their email addresses online. Here's all the NV State Legislature members:
http://www.leg.state.nv.us/74th/Legislators/Assembly/alist.cfm
Get the same website for every state, email every legislator in every legislature in the nation. You just have to copy and paste a bunch of emails, what will it take, 15 minutes?

Let 'em have it. I'm posting a printed letter to every single state Legislator and Congressman in Nevada.

I couldn't find the proper place to post the email I sent to Obama, but here it is:

T. Boone Pickens' Plan, makes a lot of sense. Being an old oil guy, he was a big part of the problem, but he has turned from the dark side. His plan, in which he will benefit, which is fine; has a lot of common sense to it. Using natural gas for cars doesn't make as much sense as developing plug in electric cars or other technologies, but it makes sense to use it for heavy trucks and, of course, using wind and solar energies makes tremendous sense. Coal, or the so-called, "clean coal" needs to be phased out as soon as possible. Nuclear plants are still a horrible option. It's the same problem as it was forty years ago. Until nuclear waste can be dealt with in a way that is safe for people and the environment, no new plants should be built. Research using small reactors could still be conducted, but no full size plants should be considered. The risks are just too high.

Using natural gas for heavy trucks isn't perfect, but it is much greener than diesel. It's green and is a good idea for several reasons: it is more local than mid-east oil, so it doesn't need to be transported as far (a big principle of green); it's a cleaner-burning fuel; we wouldn't need to fight wars, which are very un-green, to get it; it uses known technology and today's big trucks can be converted without much trouble.

Then, the other two parts of his plan are even more green. Investing in solar and wind technology is very green and it will require people to build wind turbines and solar panels, so it will create jobs. They will always be things that need to be done, in other words, there will always be a need for labor. Jobs change as needs change.

Some people still make wooden wagon wheels and buggy whips, but the need isn't a big for those items as it was in the 19th century or earlier. They are only necessary for history buffs, but not for everyday use by the majority of the people. It will be the same for gasoline cars. They will still be around for centuries, but as a novelty in parades and antique car shows, not as transportation for everyday use.

The Pickens Plan is attractive because it can be done, RIGHT NOW. It will have immediate benefits and future ones, as well. Once "money" is focused on wind and solar, the improvements will come in flurries! The plan is designed to help the United States, but it has potential of helping out the entire planet.

A bailout for the auto industry would be a mistake. If these auto companies go belly up, something will take their place. Instead of propping up these dinosaurs, this could be an opportunity to really "re-tool" the whole concept of transportation. The audacity of the three major auto execs appearing before congress the other day is evidence that they are incapable of changing their ways. It's not what they said there, but how they got there. Of course, they all said, poor us, we need 50 billion this week because we are worried about all three million of our workers and the American economy, we might need more later, but the 50 billion will get us by for a few days; BUT, all three of the jokers flew to Washington from Detroit in three separate multi-million dollar luxury private jets! They didn't even bother to jet-pool. They were all going to the same place and had to be there at the same time, so that is the least they could do.

Break up GM, at least, into smaller units; but, even better, use their manufacturing facilities to build promising cars on a sub-contracting basis of newly created companies, such as Venture Motors, or a dozen other ones that are working on hybrids or plug-in electric cars. The work force could be kept, more or less in tact. Wages and benefits will have to be adjusted to fit into the present economy and to be more in line with the rest of the country. It needs to be fair to the workers, but not to the point of being detrimental to the entire country's economy.

I know it has been brought up.
The offices of everyone we are sending Fax's-Email-letters ect are as you know from the past very hectic.
I send everyday, one single pointed subject to a couple offices. I feel the shorter and to the point, they will at least be seen completely.
Best to all;
