The SONS OF TOIL FOUNDATION (SOTF), FLORIDA, has just released the newest developoment of their main program, APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (SOTF-AP), and it's direct relativity to our nation's energy crisis.
This program gives the opportunity to learn a building trade to the willing, improving employment opportunities, offered and instructed by fourth generation master craftsmen. The Dream (Green) Home Giveaway serves as two purposes, a “classroom” for learning on the job training and a fundraiser. Each year a home will be built and raffled, enabling students to learn and funding the next project.
In addition to learning a trade, apprentices also learn about safe, green and energy efficient building methods and technologies. We are researching, developing and utilizing new energy saving building methods on each project we build. Our goal is to build a completely self sustained home and community, eliminating the dependency with the power company, generating “free power” (a profit can be made by feeding unused power back to the “grid”), to be used as a model for the U.S. housing market. This is simply achieved by the use of solar voltaic panels, wind turbine, hydrogen synthesis and fuel generation, self contained water cistern, geothermal heating and cooling with the combination of an energy efficient built home, engineered to work with these components. Ultimately, energy consumption will be reduced, a surplus of revenue will be returned into the economy, additional jobs and industry will be created benefiting our economy.
This goal has been met with the completion of the 2008 Dream Home, the "model", located in Howey in the Hills, Lake County, Florida, 35 minutes northwest of Orlando.
