Hello your are just the kind of people we need here. I would like yo see how we could take various ideas and put them together in such a way that no one energy plan magic bullet exists. Why can we not use all available means, some which do better in some parts of the country and not so well in the others. For instance Pickens pointed out the portion of the country where wind power will produce best. Bio fuels including one of my favorites Bio fuel derived from Algae in other area's. I am sure you get the idea. Thus important development in technology Like hydrogen fuel cells, better ways of storing energy like batteries are critical to this issue. I sometimes feel we miss the concept because we are too focused on one magic bullet.

Hefner (an Oklahoman like Pickens) is a natural gas exploration pioneer and his company GHK has discovered some of the larger onshore natural gas fields in the lower-48. his knowledge of energy is second to none. his energy policy for the US is spot-on. check out that website and buy his book. it is the best book on energy i have ever read. i happen to think it is the most relevant policy book at this point in our country's history.

In God We Trust - More Than A Motto?

In God We Trust: The Motto
One of the first found references of the motto “In God We Trust” is heard in the U.S. National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. The song was written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 and later adopted as the national anthem. In the last stanza Key writes a variation of the phrase: “...And this be our motto: In God is our trust. And the Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave, O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” The words were shortened to In God We Trust and first applied to U.S. coins in 1864.

In God We Trust: The History
The U. S. Department of Treasury states “the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins.

From Treasury Department records, it appears that the first such appeal came in a letter dated November 13, 1861. It was written to Secretary Chase by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania. As a result, Secretary Chase instructed James Pollock, Director of the Mint at Philadelphia, to prepare a motto, in a letter dated November 20, 1861:

Dear Sir: No nation can be strong except in the strength of God, or safe except in His defense. The trust of our people in God should be declared on our national coins. You will cause a device to be prepared without unnecessary delay with a motto expressing in the fewest and tersest words possible this national recognition. It was found that the Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837, prescribed the mottoes and devices that should be placed upon the coins of the United States.”

Pollock suggested "Our Trust Is In God," "Our God And Our Country," "God And Our Country," and "God Our Trust." Chase picked "In God We Trust" to be used on some of the government's coins. The first time "In God We Trust" appeared on our coins was in 1864 on the new two cent coin, and by 1909 it was included on most the other coins. During the height of the cold war, on July 11, 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Public Law 140 making it mandatory that all coinage and paper currency display the motto.

In God We Trust: The Foundation
American history demonstrates repeatedly that the nation was founded on Christian principles and its founding fathers wished to acknowledge that fact all over Washington D.C. buildings, in official documents, and historical speeches. Less than a hundred years after its Declaration of Independence, In God We Trust was proclaimed on its coins. America is a free nation, and freedom of religion is still guaranteed in the Constitution’s First Amendment.

President Thomas Jefferson wrote, "The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time" and asked ‘Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are of God?’"

"It is better to trust the LORD than to put confidence in man" (Psalm 118:8).

"He has put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God; many shall see it, and fear and will trust in the LORD" (Psalm 40:3, NKJV).

"It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works" (Psalm 73:28 NKJV).

"The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe" (Proverbs 29:25 NKJV).

I received this from the Executive Director from Tri Rail (Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties) for our assistance. In a time of saving resources the state wants to cut back on funding which affect thousands using the system on a daily basis.

A Call for Help from the Executive Director

We are in a battle for dedicated funding in the Florida Legislation. I do
not use the term "battle" loosely, because we are truly in a fight for
survival. I am calling on you to support us as we need you more than ever!

We are facing reduced funding from the counties and the state legislature!

The counties cannot be faulted for their decision to reduce funding; they
are struggling just as we are. As I announced at last Friday's meeting of
the Governing Board, if the counties reduce their funding assistance and the
legislature provides no dedicated funding source, we will have no choice but
to reduce service to potentially as few as 30 trains a day and suspend
service on the weekends and holidays, as of October 5, 2009.

I know these service reductions will create tremendous hardship for those of
you who have come to depend on Tri-Rail to get you to work, school, medical
appointments or for leisure travel. Your Governor, State Representatives and
Senators need to hear about what these hardships will mean to you and your
families.

Last year, more than 7,100 of you responded to our request for help. I
cannot urge you strongly enough to let your voice be heard again this year.

Boone has a good start on a plan ... by the by, his biography " The First Billion is the Hardest" is a very interesting read ... but I wish our team could have debated his plan with him from day 1. There are some ready enhancements which Boone missed.

It covers energy conservation, energy production, energy storage and energy distribution. It's 100% pollution free, costs less than coal or oil, and can be fully implemented by 2030. It just needs funding. Lots of funding.

It is funny that you mention "for 20yrs" in your comments regarding powering our vehicles using NG. I was just discussing the PickensPlan NG Initiative with a friend and explained my involvement “20 yrs. ago” with a compressed NG (CNG) station and a commitment by the Syracuse (NY) school-bus department to trial NG. At that time I represented a high pressure, coriolis mass flowmeter (a type of meter approved for cu$tody transfer) used to determine CNG fill rates and totals (in lbs.). These high pressure CNG (up to 5000 psi) stations can cost over $120K depending on the number of CNG filling points, installation, real-estate, etc., a little restrictive for a “gas station” without a guaranteed market or definitive ROI numbers. That being said...
I learned many things that were great about CNG, and one of my own, that will ADD to the case; “evolving NG Initiative for North America engines” (ENGINE™). First, it was determined that a great benefit of CNG engine combustion was it was virtually maintenance-free from that point back (in the vehicle). The replacement of sparkplugs, combustion chambers, manifolds, complete exhaust systems (you can imagine these on a school bus, especially with all the stop and go) was almost eliminated due to the “clean” combustion of NG. Second, was the overall performance of the vehicles, including acceleration, idle, and power stability. Third is my input, today’s availability of GPS navigation,(our current business) specifically wireless (cell-phones, PDAs, smart-phones; predicted to be over 1 BILLION World-Wide equipped phones by 2013) will answer the largest barrier to ENGINE™, nationwide CNG availability. CNG users could find the nearest CNG filling station with an alert on their cell-phone, I-phone, etc. Actually, a clever program could notify a CNG user where he/she NEEDS to refill before empty cylinders stops them.
