PickensPlan

While Pickens plan may be the long term solution. What does it do about the gas prices right now? nothing. The best solution to our current energy problems is simple.

If we drill of the gulf, drill of the coast of Florida and california. The Oil Shale in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. If we drill in anwr.

That would drastically drive down the price of gas, and almost completely eliminate our dependance on foreign oil.

Our U.S. Oil reserves are larger than all Mid-east oil countries combined.

Why are we not harnessing this?

Because the Liberal Enviormentalist movement wants to manufacture a shortage in order to keep our evergrowing unimportant carbon footprint from growing larger.

Im gonna say it right now.

Global warming is a lie.

unbiased research shows that it simply is not true.

Newt Gingrich and his organization known as American Solutions has more viable, logical, and practical plans to bring oil prices down and eliminate our dependance of foreign oil.

Im not against wind energy, its just not the best solution we have available.

Chris,

It now appears that oil is headed back to the $70 to $80 per barrel range which is about double the cost to produce for most sovereigns and large oil Corporations. They will do this to "KILL" the alternative products for another twenty years. Saudi's and other efficient producers spend about $ 22 per barrel to recover oil, so they can price other energy sources out of existence in short order.

Price reductions will dry up investment dollars for all clean sources except nuclear which can produce the most electricity for the lowest cost. Wind and solar will have some limited uses but will require government tax credits to survive economically.
More like $5 a barrel to get it out of the ground. :)
Fossil fuels are leading causes of cancer and respiratory disease, Fact. Secondly they put our national security at risk and at a minimum cause the US to spend trillions on guarding the Middle East. We need to move to clean alternatives ASAP. The technology is out there, production is occurring and the government needs to act NOW to promote this conversion. Continuing the tax breaks for fossil fuels will only lengthen conversion time and possibility stop the conversion when oil prices fall to below $40/barrel. Yes, oil will become very cheap once speculation is limited and alternatives start to decline consumption. Americans must then make the hard choices for the health of their children. If this doesn't occur, then America is truly controlled by the rich and powerful and their overriding greed and indifference for the health of future generations.

Anyone who doesn't want to stop the use of fossil fuels, go stand in your garage, turn the car on, stand there for one hour each day for the next year, let us know how your feeling.
Mark,

1) I thought smoking tobacco was the leading cause of cancer and respiratory diseases. Please don't tell me that millions of smokers quit smoking because they were duped into believing it was killing them.

2) So, if fossil fuels are truely leading causes of cancer and respiratory diseases, then if we switched to burning wood and buffalo chips to cook our meals and warm our houses, how much cancer & respiratory disease do we prevent?

Ken Goss
Bringing oil prices down is not the answer. In order to encourage innovation in effciency and the research into new sources of power, we need high fossil fuel prices. The best source for innovation comes from our free market economy, not from government sponsored research.

Low fuel prices provide no incentive for consumers to seek/demand change. Because change is expensive, if the consumers aren't demanding it, big business won't do it. Once consumers demand change, then business will have to adapt to that change.

Drilling for oil is short term and short sighted.
Chris,

Ok, Americans should give all the money the save from personal economy to those that will bring new technology to help us do better in the next life. Sounds like what the Egyptian King Tut thought but we dug up him and his treasure he save to pay for living in the next life. Did not seem logical then and does not seem logical now.
Where do you Drill or Die "ditto heads" come from?
One thing Newt, Rush and Sean forget to tell you is there isn't a idle drilling rigs anywhere. You guys talk like this stuff is sitting in a field rusting. The equipment, the pipe the manpower just doesn't exist. It's all working.

I'm not talking about going to Alaska or offshore; I'm talking about drilling NG in West Virginia. We have to wait 18 months just to get everything in place to drill three wells not the 10 we want to drill. The cost of drilling is up 300%. If we start drilling tomorrow you wouldn't see a difference in supply for years and if you do it will be exported.

See if you can get those so-called conservatives Republicans to commit in writing, that every drop of oil found in the USA after today will stay here and not be exported.
That will never happen.
I agree drilling for oil is not the best long term solution to fuel our cars more cheapley because natural gas is. However the idea that drilling wont lower oil cost right now is just silly. Oil price does not trade and fluctuate on what is coming out of the ground vs. whats being used now but what supply and demand will be 3, 5 even 10 years down the road. Anyone can prove this to yourself by getting out a stock chart of oil costs over the course of the year and look at the exact point at wich it changed from a 45 degree increase to a 45 decrease slope. This event just happened to have occured during the exact same 10min Bush lifted his end of the oil drilling ban on national television. This can be confirmed with a little research. This concept of an oil (futures) market that dosent trade on what will happen in the (future) is an Obama/democrat propaganda tool used to gain support for an unrealistic energy policy targeted to the uneducated and uninformed. Drill now and the T.Boon plan of natural gas in our cars, wind and solar helping our plants, mixed with some McCain nuclear and clean coal to pick up the rest will be a real, workable, and positive future.
Well, Doc,

Another good p*********** issued. Maybe a spoon full of sugar will help the greens let reality go down into the little gray cells?
This concept of an oil (futures) market that dosent trade on what will happen in the (future)>> DUH! I think that is why they call it a "futures" market? Your simple logic MAY be too much for the neuron challenged Left wing, Pelosi Mob to grasp in ONE single dose.

Also, are you implying that the BS that the Obama campaign is shoveling out...is NOT convertable into SOME KIND of usable energy to run our cars or fuel our homes?
Hmmm! There goes my Cow Patti to Energy Independance recycling business model up in ....smoke? fumes?

30 million homes could be powered by the waves off of California alone
George,

How much would that power cost per KWH? What can they do to protect the system from storm damage? and what do they do in the flat periods?
