PickensPlan

Algae Bio Mass Farms can produce up to 33,000 gallons of oil per acre per year!

Boone Pickens is trying to make a difference. I am trying to make a difference. There is a way to make Oil that is not getting much press.

This process is to make Fuel from Algae. This process is clean. This process is renewable. This process won't drive up food prices like the process from corn to ethanol - quite the opposite in my opinion. I believe prices would begin to come down for the commodities related to energy. This Algae I am referring to, is not grown in ponds. This Algae is grown in a closed system - a Bio Reactor. Each Algae Cell typically contains 50% oil or more. By comparing corn against Algae - there is no comparison. The film clip indicates that one acre of corn will produce 18 - 25 gallons of oil yearly. One acre of Algae will produce 33,000 gallons of oil yearly. With some land dedicated to this process, all of our oil needs could be satisfied. Imports from foreign oil would drop drastically. We wouldn't have to drill either anymore - either offshore or in the Arctic. It is estimated that 1/10th of the land mass of New Mexico dedicated to this process could produce all of our oil needs.

Another great thing about this is that different strains of Algae can produce different types of fuel. I.e. diesel, gas, fuel oil and more can be produced by these means. These Algae Bio Reactors could be built near where the refineries are. That would cut down on the transportation of the oil as we know it now. How much would that save? There are a few more things about this Plan. This Algae Oil Production will use up carbon dioxide which will help with the Green House Effect that we are having. Algae needs carbon dioxide to grow. Growing corn causes a lot of fuel hydrocarbons to be released into the atmosphere and adds to pollutants.

I want the same thing that Boone Pickens is striving for. To use every means possible to cut back on our imports of oil - now! Not 10 years from now. I want the best way to produce energy. I hope Boone takes a look at this idea and gives it some thought. Personally, I think this is the very best idea I have heard of so far to date. I have not heard of one bad thing yet about producing Oil from Algae.

Take a look at the Valcent Site. It explains it well.

Don't be misled about the lower cost of oil at this time. Once we get out of this recession the price of oil will rise again and the pain will re-emerge once again from the high cost of fuel for driving and heating.

This is a great idea and I hope you can appreciate this Plan. This Plan really needs to be explored and needs your help for it to work. You need to write your Senators and Representatives about this Plan. I am hopeful that once they learn of the significance of this Plan that they will give incentives so this Plan can start producing sooner than later!

Remember, it took us about 10 years from start to finish to achieve one of man's greatest achievments - Going to the Moon! We did it three times. No other country has achieved this even with modern technology. We now have another Challenge - to get off Foreign Oil and to retain our way of life and all the choices we hold dear. This can be achieved by going all out on producing Oil from Algae and developing the latest technologies to do this.

Do you get snake oil from that algae???
Yes...but it kills the snakes.....one of those special strains, requiring algae eating snakes, (much like the alge eating tropical fish sold at Wal-Mart). OOPs...do not let the algae eating fish loose in my algae oil pond...the little devils.
Once the snakes are processed in oil fuel it is so elite it can be only used in Cadillacs
(and NO...not cowboy cadillacs either).
By the way, what snake oil powers your volkswagen best??
Now this company seems to have found a diesel cow.
No snakes here, their technology removes the oil from the algae
without killing the alge.....therefore, like removing milk from a cow
doesn't kill it....henceforth a diesel cow.....
Check it out!! Buy some stock!!

International Energy, Inc. is a development-stage company. The Company is engaged in an effort to develop processes and technologies permitting the commercially viable extraction of biofuels from algae. On September 17, 2007, through its wholly owned subsidiary, International Energy Corp., the Company commenced the development and acquisition of biofuel technologies by entering into a research agreement with The Regents of the University of California in the area of algal biochemistry and photosynthesis. This project aims to develop protocols for the growth of microalgal cultures and for the generation of long chain liquid hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons are derived directly from the photosynthesis of the green microalgae.
Hey! I appreciate your comments. I checked it out some and I need to get into it some more. It just goes to show you that there is an actual brick and mortor business right now working to produce oil from algae.

What I like is what the company writes about the algae process and program. It just makes me get even more excited about algae. I would recommend everyone reading this to go to that site you posted. It just goes hand in hand with the things I have been saying from the beginning. Stay in touch.
I wouldn't EXACTLY call it a "brick and mortar" business. More like a house of cards supported by government grants and a LOT of snake oil salesman working the grant and venture capitalist phone lines. Not that I care one way or the other, but don't make it out that it is something that it is not. It is NOT ready for Prime Time. This "algae cow" ain't even got no teats yet.

The premise of photosynthesis as a method of energy conversion (suns light energy to an alcohol) is well known and we as a species are totally without a clue as to how to exploit it beyond that model which nature has given us. And THAT premise ain't good enough.

A FAR better product (and just a far along the research and development stage as algae) is bio fuel from switchgrass http://bioenergy.ornl.gov/papers/misc/switgrs.html

Actually, biomass was the leading method for transportation energy at the turn of the 20th century. Before you get too attached to the algae premise look at the possibilities of switchgrass. It uses the SAME technology (photosynthesis) but the current KNOWN yields for this product are FAR superior to that of algae. I don't think either one has a GREAT chance of succeeding as a prime source of energy displacement in this country, but switchgrass (cellulosic ethanol) will be here LONG before the intricacies of algae cow milking comes of age.

Algae-to-Oil potential has peaked my curiosity. I think it definitely deserves our attention more than alot of the stuff I've seen on this site. Electric cars for example. I think there's no way we can develop enough electricity to satisfy demand for not only our houses, but also our cars. For every 1000 people in this country, 750 drive cars! I believe we need to invest in all renewables, except corn ethanol. Cellulosic ethanol is still worth seriously looking at as a biofuel, but algae so far seems like the real deal!
All of the research and documenteries I've seen on the subject seems to indicate that it's viable. The only problem so far that I see is scaling it up to levels for mass production.
Yes, I feel the same way. This is the reason for my writing about this. I want all of you reading this to get involved just a bit more. All you need to do is tell your friends and write to your Representatives in Washington.

Technology will make this work! I use the analogy of going to the moon. When President Kennedy first came out with his idea of going to the moon, I bet everyone thought he was losing it. But as you know, with the people firmly behind the program, we did it and went to the moon what, three times. The first trip took about seven years. No other country has ever done this. We are the best, but hurting right now. And back then we didn't even have computers as we do today. In fact, so much technology that we have today came the the Space Race. Take care!
Henry, I was in my early 30's When the president made this speech. Actually what happened was people ask "when do we start" I was working in the oil fields then, but I went to work at Johnson Space Center in 1967. I worked in the Flight Control office. It is sad to say but the death rate for the flight controllers is much higher than the general public. The sacrifices were not over when the last Satern V left the pad.
I have been trying to get the word out about Algae. I agree with you naturally. Corn is just not the way. There is not much yield for oil. There is only 18 gallons as opposed to 20,000 gallons. Our farmers will have to just move on. I am trying to promote stability for everyone in the long run. As you know, oil is approximately $124 a barrel now. It has come down some but according to some experts, it is about $80 too high. If you could calculate that, I can't, you can see that these huge prices are hurting everyone except those invested in oil. This Algae idea will give us a stable price forever. The price of oil may inch up a bit but with all things produced, it will stabilize in a "normal" range. Everyone Worldwide will profit from this except for the countries now producing oil.

I have re-written my blog yesterday and posted it at a bad time. Might I ask you to go there and read it also? Search - Algae Bio Mass - the Forever Solution to our Oil Problems."

This idea is huge! In time we will see, but we need to get something going now, not 20 years from now. Please write your representatives in Washington.
The algae from what I've gathered is strain specific. The different colors absorob different wavelenths of light and are therefore better suited for different products i.e. bio diesel , jet fuel, methane & so on.
And once again congress left today for a 5 week recess without moving forward on any type of energy bill.
