I want to know about how one would go about organizing and installing windmill power on St. Eustatius, in the Dutch Windward Islands. Currently there is only a diesel generator, I figure (2)-1 megawatt windmills would power the entire island, and I think Venus Bay (a deserted beach area, 20-30 mph wind ALL the time from the east) would be the perfect location. How have others accomplished similar projects, (organizing the population, signing up "stockholders", planning with local governments, etc)and could you give me contact information. Sounds a little crazy, but then again I know it has been done!-Mike

I do not know the answer, but I would talk to the ldrs of the Windward Islands. Get local people involved contact GE or another lrg windmill manuf. Maybe even Boone will have a couple that could be sent. Look in groups and type windmills.
There is a lot of knowledgable people within this site.

Leslie G 's husband works for a windmill company.
My very small input.
Best; Tom

Yes, I have contacted the Dutch government, who has committed to investing 500M euros in developing countries. We'll see. Which windmill co. do you work for? An island the uses about 2 megawatts-what type/mix of windmills are customary for this. Does your company provide maintenance for them? What precautions are necessary for hot, salty air ? Thanks
