CNG Investment would make us Energy Independent

Bi-Fuel CNG conversions could make us energy independent from OPEC within 5 years for only a fraction of what we have spent in Iraq to stabilize the Middle East.  A $50 Billion investment from the Government and $1 Billion from each state in a readily usable energy source and proven technology is a practical solution for Energy Independence.

 MISSION STATEMENT
To promote Bi-Fuel CNG/Gasoline vehicles as the most immediately viable option for energy independence and to network and engage in strategic partnering to promote business opportunites.

WHY Bi-Fuel CNG/Gasoline Cars ?????
A bi-fuel car has a standard factory gasoline tank which allows normal driving ranges on gasoline and won't leave you stranded. "Dedicated" CNG cars run solely on CNG, and are challenged by thier limited driving range; lack of public refueling stations.  Hydrogen fuel cells and electric vehicles aren't practical solutions because of refueling/rechargin challenges, limited range and purchase price. The electric car will not be practical until we expand the power plant infrastructure to handle the electric vehicle power demand.

CNG-First50
An immediately viable strategy is to burn CNG for the First50 miles of daily driving from an auxiliary source while not compromising the stock gasoline tank and normal driving ranges for extended trips.  To accomplish this, we will use a CNG tank capable of holding the equivalent of 3 gallons of gasoline.  These 3 gallons of CNG will replace the car's average daily mileage of 42 miles/day x 365 days = 15,000 miles/ year . When appplied to daily driving, this will reduce a typical commuter's gasoine consumption by at least 50%. Nationally implemented, this reduction could eliminate 8.5 million barrels of imported oil per day and lower our imports from 12 million barrels/day to 6 million barrels, which we can buy 3 million barrels  (each) from Canada and Mexico.

Here is why First50 will work:

- National Average commuter drives 42 miles/day = 15,000 miles / year
- First50 eliminates 50% to 75% of the car's avg. daily gasoline usage
- 49 million households are supplied natural gas
- A national pipeline distribution network already exists for natural gas
- Refueling at home would eliminate national need for CNG refueling stations
- Standard range gasoline tank ensures you will not get stranded on long trips
- A 3 gallon equivalent CNG tank can be mounted in the spare tire area of SUV's and pickups and minivans and the spare tire relocated to the bumper.

Here's the math........

250 million passenger cars in the U.S.

49 million households are supplied with natural gas ( www.naturalgas.org/overview/uses_residential.asp)

=75 million cars  (@ 1.5 vehicles per household)

= 33% reduction in oil imports and gasoline production

This 33% cuts eliminates US consumption of Middle East, Venezuelan and African oil imports

$2,000 vehicle conversion cost on a 4 year payback plan = $500 per year
$500 / 12 = $42 per month

=$1.25 per day per vehicle

This 3 gallon equivalent supplemental CNG program would significantly improve our gasoline refining shortage from too few refineries and would not require a drastic infrastructure investment for refueling stations since the vehicles would be refueled at home were 49 million homes are already supplied with natural gas; and potentially another 25 million have gas available in the neighborhoods.

FUNDING
Community Banks would originate the $2,000 conversion loans per vehicle guaranteed by a government loan guarantee and collateralized by a lien on the vehicle's title.  Therefore, our energy indepenedence would be citizen funded without using $1 actual taxpayer dollar.

Incentives introduced in New Mexico House by Rep Ben Lujan giving incentives for switching vehicles from petroleum to natural gas! HB 198.

More states need to do this to help America get off of foreign oil!

Today I participated in an interesting meeting of the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments' General Policy Board in Youngstown. The speaker (Fred Abousleman, Executive Director of the National Association of Regional Councils) mentioned that the US Department of Energy has $40 Billion in unallocated Stimulus money and they do not have any plans to use it.

How about some job-creating sustainable energy projects to reduce our dependence on foreign oil? We already have the technology to convert trucks, busses, and cars to run on methane, aka natural gas. We can produce methane from sewage sludge and organic garbage at all of our waste water treatment plants. Struthers, Ohio has one of these biodigesters under construction to power a pair of 375-kilowatt electrical generators.

We can drill Marcellus shale gas wells at every sewage treatment plant and landfill for an additional constant supply of natural gas, to keep electrical generators running at peak efficiency. Landfills produce methane, and the technology exists to capture it before it escapes into the atmosphere to become a "greenhouse gas."

These types of capital expenditures will produce an immediate and long-term cash flow return on investment for our cities, counties, and property owners Increasing energy supplies decreases costs and makes our industries more competitive, so they can produce more productive jobs.

Let's be more vocal about sharing the cause!
Let's share more! Post about energy independence wherever you can and in any other social media you participate in! Facebook, Linkedin, etc.
Write those letters! Send invitations to your friends and family to paricipate!
Together we can own this and drive it!
