It's time to put the pressure on Kevin McCarthy. I had the opportunity to visit him at the state capital last year. I plan on having on of the top training programs on the west coast. Cerro Coso Community College has teamed up with what I believe to be as the best in wind education, "AIRSTREAMS" a company that is made up of some of the first people to be involved with the birthplace of "Wind"....Tehachapi, California. They are seasoned veterans that have been in the industry since 1980! We need federal money to support our training facilities in order to meet industry needs that will become an issue due to the lack of a trained workforce!!

Does anyone know about the Do-it-yourself energy manual/kits (wind and solar) that are from the web-site Earth4Energy.com? I'm quite interested, but would love to talk to someone who has already got a kit! Thanx.

I just happened to come across this new wind turbine facility a friend of mine showed me. It is soooo cool. The company name is MagLev and their video can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Qs2gFlt-o

Distrct Group #22,
Below is a link to a Boone briefing with Hill Staffers about input into the Stimulus Plan. It is very interesting and informative. I especially liked the insight into what happens to the diesel powered 18-wheelers that cannot be powered by an electric engines

Best Regards,
Robert Mendelson
District 22 Leader.

My name is Sid Abma. I think Mr. Pickens is on the right track. We have to do more to decrease our dependance on foreign oil. Natural gas is our future fuel. It is here in the ground, we do not have to bring it in on ships. But cotton picker, we have to stop wasting this natural gas the way we have been doing it. It can last us a lot more years if this country would just use it to it's fullest capability. How much of this natural gas do you think is wasted every day up the chimney's of industrial, commercial and our state and federal governments chimney's?!! 20% or more is wasted and vented into the atmosphere as HOT exhaust. What a waste!
What we have to do is educate industry and government that if this country is going to become energy efficient, we have to become energy efficient in all fuels. Mr Pickens wants to use natural gas for road fuel. Great idea.
Check out EIA.gov In 2007 the USA Consumed 6,874,082 million cu/ft of natural gas. How much of that was wasted? If it wasn't wasted as bad, it could have powered how trucks across this country? It could have left how much natural gas in the ground for another day?
We have to become 90% plus efficient in our use of natural gas! It's simple. Capture the heat in the chimney and then use it where it was intended to be used. Instead of venting HOT exhaust, vent cool exhaust.
It's a no brainer. Can We Do It? We Can Do It!

FYI on Wind
The first thing to learn about wind is how much is needed to actually make the turbine efficient. There is not a linear relationship between wind speed and electrical power generated. For example, an 8 mph wind would not produce twice as much power as a 16 mph wind. The relationship between wind power and wind power depends on factors such as turbine design, wind gusts, wind duration, and wind direction change. When considering wind power alone there is a cubic relationship between wind speed and the electrical power produced by the wind. For example, suppose the wind speed is 8 mph and produces 512 units of power (8^3). If the wind speed is doubled to 16 mph then the power produced by the wind would be 4,096 units (16^3). As the wind speed increases the power produced increases at a rapid rate. Therefore, it is very important to determine your average wind speed for your area. This can be accomplished by floating instruments or looking at research data posted on the web. The other factor that is important is how the wind changes direction and at what elevation you get your best wind (the higher the better). In most cases, if you do not have “flagging” of your trees, you do not have a sufficient amount of wind to install your generator.

As far as the tax credits, that will depend upon the unit installed, the rebate level for your area, your tax bracket and the current status of breaks at the federal level. The best thing to do is consult an expert. The best person in the Kern County would be Bruce Hatchett at Energy Options.

Response to Christine Froehlich regarding solar or wind power home.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to have a discussion. I installed (myself) a 7kw solar system at my house, but before I did, I studied wind power as an option. I can point you to all the installers and give you ideas on what does and does not work. As per my system, I can adjust the angle for the season and I am currently getting 30% more from it than what SCE said I should get.

A little background on me, I have degrees in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering/PE from being a Submarine Officer and an MBA. Not only can I give you the technical understanding, but also an understanding from a business point of view regarding payback.

Regards,
Bradford Oliver

We're finally here! The new Administration and Congress have been sworn in. Legislation is perking up everywhere. We will soon have legislation promoting the Pickens Plan. We have been working the past seven months for this - the next 100 days!

We need everyone's help.

If you haven't already, please host a meeting among the District group to see how your district can keep moving the Pickens Army forward.

Please continue to recruit new Members. Members have found success (and new acquaintances) by setting up a table in front of a store such as Wal-Mart or at a local park.

Write an op-ed or letter-to-the-editor to your hometown newspaper. Send that op-ed or letter to ALL the papers in your district.

Send a note to your Member of Congress that you want them to support the Pickens Plan when it becomes legislation.

And please report what you have done. A weekly report gets sent to Boone with figures such as how many op-eds and letters to the editor have been submitted, published, meetings held, etc. He follows our district activities every week.
