The Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, introduced by Senators Kerry and Senator Boxer, is up for debate in the Senate. It is one of the most important pieces of clean energy and green jobs legislation ever introduced in this country. Please call Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer to ask them to support passage of The Clean Energy and Security Act.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Should Sign Clean Energy Bill
SACRAMENTO (September 14, 2009) — The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) joined with environmental and consumer groups today to urge Gov. Schwarzenegger to sign a package of bills (SB 14 and AB 64) that would require California utilities to acquire 33 percent of their electricity from renewable energy by 2020. The state Legislature passed the bills late Friday.

"The Legislature passed these bills to modernize and clean up our states energy system," said Laura Wisland, a UCS energy analyst. "The governor is being misinformed by the people who are advising him to veto them. The bills already provide utilities with substantial flexibility in allowing renewable generation from nearby states to qualify. We need a permanent law on the books, not an executive order than can be easily reversed after the governor leaves office."

The 33 percent renewable electricity standard bills could reduce global warming emissions in the state by as much as 12.8 million metric tons, equivalent to eliminating the need for 10 to 15 new conventional large fossil-fueled power plants, according to the California Public Utilities Commission.

If Gov. Schwarzenegger signs the renewable electricity legislation into law, California would consume more megawatt hours of renewable electricity than any other state. Twenty-nine other states and Washington, D.C., also have renewable electricity standards. According to the Department of Energy, renewable standards spurred approximately half of the new U.S. wind power capacity from 2001 to 2006. In addition, the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) Electric Power Monthly Report shows net U.S. electrical generation from renewable sources reached an all-time high this May, comprising 13 percent of the total electrical generation for the month.

California Renewables!
Please write or call now to urge the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign SB 14 and AB 64, which would require California to get at least a third of its electricity from renewable sources, such as the sun and wind.

I have no problem with "off topic" items. This may be why it is difficult to gain support at higher levels. Political bias and hidden agendas make people suspicious. Ever since the Las Vegas meeting the idea has gained some traction. Big rigs converting to natural gas is a great idea, now the challenge is how to pay for it.

Hello everyone!
I hope you won’t think me ‘off topic’ but there is genuine angst in the progressive community about Boone’s support for the Swift Boat Veterans group that played such a major part in the defeat of John Kerry in 2004. It didn’t help matters any when a Pickens spokesperson commented, “Boone has moved on…”; as if this were of little import. America would not be in the dire straits that it is now had John Kerry been elected and many progressives feel that Boone ought to ‘man up’ and admit that he was grossly wrong in supporting that group. It takes a real big man to admit to making a mistake and IMHO Boone could gain back the trust and confidence of the progressive community by doing so.
If anyone is interested, I’ve worked up an idea for a wind turbine that would virtually eliminate bird strikes and is scalable to provide electricity for homes and/or small businesses. Could be the start of a real enterprise for someone who wants to make wind energy cost-efficient for the average homeowner.
