As the weeks have rolled into years and renewable energy continues to be dissed by most energy companies to continue the status quo, I can't help but respond to these naysayers!  I find that those who continue to make the claim that "nuclear" is the only answer, are either naive or stupid or both.  Why do I respond this way?  Easy, look at the lack of controls, safety features, security and the just plain general poor contingency plans at nuclear "power plants" any where!   The only intelligence regarding recognition of the problem has been made by Germany, who also once thought that they had the ultimate power solution, with nuclear.

Germany now has become near the forefront of the World’s renewable energy sector for the past several years. In 2000, the unique Renewable Energy Act (EEG) was proposed as a replacement to the 1991 Electricity Feed Act by a bipartisan group of elected representatives from the German Parliament (Deutsche Bundestag). The most vociferous champion of the EEG was the late Dr. Hermann Scheer. He was instrumental in both popularizing the EEG in Germany and assisting other jurisdictions that wished to adopt similar measures to understand the principles of the EEG and to use these principles to develop their renewable energy and green economy.

The EEG represented a tremendous forward advance in the procurement of various forms of renewable energy around the World due to its three (3) main principles.

The three main principles of the EEG were (and remain):

a)Investment protection through guaranteed feed-in tariffs and connection requirement.

b)No charge to a nation's public purse.

c)Innovation by falling feed-in-tariffs.

The unfortunate natural events at Fukushima that led to the World’s most recent nuclear disaster have highlighted that the fact not only is nuclear expensive to build and expensive to operate (especially unsubsidized by the public) - but that it is also extremely risky to operate.

Having been in the path of the fallout of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster 25 years ago, German voters were the first to wake up and put their politicians on notice, after Fukushima, that the risk of nuclear power generation was no longer acceptable and they demanded an immediate and irrevocable remedy – the suspension and permanent closing of all of Germany’s nuclear reactors.

Will it take another even greater disaster, than 3 Mile Island in the US, for US voters to wake up and to "dump nuclear" like the Germans have?  I fear that the US voter has become too ignorant and historically fails to support a long term solution to anything!  A look back on the rape of the US consumer by the oil, automobile and electric industries here in the US for the 40 plus years is appalling and disgusting.  The constant sales pitch and the down right lies misrepresenting the danger of nuclear should send every responsible voter to demand an immediate and irrevocable remedy – the suspension and permanent closing of all of the US's nuclear reactors as well.  The failure by our government to put together a long term energy plan to Free Us From Remaining Energy Prisoners is unconscionable!  This article should open your eyes to Energy History.

Indie Film “Haynesville” Will Premiere November 23rd On CNBC

“Haynesville” will premiere on Tuesday, November 23rd at 9pm on CNBC. The one hour documentary will repeat that evening at 10pm, 12am and 1am.

The show will also air on:

Sunday, November 28th at 10pm.

“Haynesville”

When the people in rural Northern Louisiana learn they are sitting on a fortune, they struggle to weigh their big dreams against the safety of their community. Some will take the money and run while others learn to negotiate with the big energy companies who are looking to drill into the trillion-dollar natural gas reservoir that lies deep beneath their homes. Will this be easy money or the fight of their lives, in what some are calling the “new gold rush”?

Mark,

I am very optimistic on Bloom, keep me informed please.

Well I have been holding off on posting this for a few months now so that I can better explain how this technology will effect consumers lives. So here goes!
I have posted the following astounding energy development by the Bloom Energy Corp, known as the Bloom Box that currently is powering many large corporations offices. It's designer and builder is K.R. Sridhar. He has moved into an energy generation area where the so called "Big Boys" fear to tread and continue to try to pooh pooh it's very existence to death. I am here to tell you that just this week Mr. Sridhar has announced plans to build residential units for consumers within the next two years at a price tag of approximately $3K each. For myself, I applaud his generators entrance into the market. What a market it is, with naysayers on every level of alternative energy development. Once again, while technology moves on, the non-renewable energy company proponents continue to preach their "it's still in the laboratory stages" sermon. As the dim of their desperate crys begin to fade away into oblivion, consumers will embrace our new freedom and independence from continuing to be held as "energy prisoners". Check our the post at : http://push.pickensplan.com/profiles/blogs/the-residential-energy

In fact in order to provide a balanced approach to alternative fuel, check out the home hydrogen refueling unit at http://www.gizmag.com/go/4866/

Have you seen what Citroen in France has done with a residential supply CNG unit? This is something that Boone needs to be told about to secure for here in America. Check this out!! http://www.gizmag.com/go/3260/

Here is the same information reiterated in a followup email to Geoff, when he asked what release I referred to in my first email:

The release that I refer to is a word attachment, from yourself, in your LTE Example Content.doc Document attachment and specifically in section one. I reasonably can't see anyone actually expressing the following:
"I am all for developing battery and fuel cell technology - or some other technology which is still in the laboratory stage. But neither batteries nor hydrogen are ready for widespread distribution to our national fleet of approximately 250 million cars and light trucks. A battery also won't push an 18-wheeler. The only fuel which is available to reduce our dependence on foreign oil is domestic natural gas."
While it appears that Congress has moved on CNG as being the temporary alternative solution to our nation's current energy situation, what has actually happened is that Congress has managed to avoid the public outcry for an actual long term energy commitment to a multi-faceted energy solution. The comment in the word document that "some other technology which is still in the laboratory stage ... neither batteries nor hydrogen are ready ... The only fuel which is available ... is natural gas", is particularly disingenuious! In fact there already exist completely non-polluting electric powered vehicles, hydrogen powered 18 wheelers, not to mention that natural gas is not the only viable energy source. Most of the highlighted statements are false and misleading and are just like the ones expressed by the oil companies for the past 40 plus years since the first oil embargo of the 70's. So neither the public nor energy savy Pickens Plan members are niave to accept that kind of rhetoric again and this time by an organization purported to be on the public's best interest's side. This kind of statement is not acceptible to alternative energy advocates if the Pickens Plan wants to remain credible! So content and accuracy of suggestions in similiar releases are extremely important that they include everyone, in order to help membership remain active and committed. So my own question is what is the Pickens Plan doing, not to alienate itself from it's own membership considering the fact that it is ignoring every other alternative?

This is a concern that I sent via email to Geoff regarding member activity and retention:

Geoff,
Here is my question/statement for the conference call scheduled with Boone on Thursday. After reading your Letter suggestions, I can't agree less about your representations about technologies still being in the laboratory stages. Every day there are improvements that manufacturers are releasing in the form of electric vehicles, hydrogen hybrids, and even your reference to "18 wheelers". If the Pickens Plan is expecting to get the support of a majority of Pickens Plan members, much the less the rest of the general public, leaders really need to make acurate statements concerning these and other alternative energy sources. By trying to minimize these alternative viable alternatives to a public that actually is more intelligent than what leaders seem to give them credit for, will be the downfall of the Pickens Plan if this path is continued to be pursued. The very idea that gasoline or diesel will suddenly no longer be the defacto standard is niave and foolish. Additionally, it is similarly foolish to place all of anyone's eggs into one non-renewable basket. Obviously, not everyone will convert to CNG, nor should the CNG industry expect to actually see an infrastructure development of anything even approaching a 10% of the market. Thus, it is in everyone's best interests to help people see that CNG actually will only be a intermediate step in alternative energy development. The best case scenario for those who support the CNG development will be to promote the coexistence and ongoing support of these competing alternative energy vehicles as solutions. I am a realist when it comes to dealing with the public, as should the Pickens Plan become in order to continue to be heralded as an innovator or energy leader. Please remember, people joined the Pickens Plan in order to see to not just the elimination of our foreign energy dependency, but also to see America's energy independence from keeping us all as "energy prisoners"! How will the Pickens Plan keep it's members active if only a single aspect of an alternative energy is promoted?

Looks like there is some alternative energy power - the world's first heavy duty hydrogen powered heavy truck in the news in California - an article that is an interesting read at this site: http://www.gizmag.com/zero-emission-tyrano-truck/13218/ Here is an already viable alternative fuel vehicle that looks like a great addition to the self proclaimed non renewable resources groups.

Message Subject: Please Support FARE
Message Text: Your kind consideration of the FARE organization by reading their news release at their website is appreciated: http://www.FAREnergy.org FARE does not support the coupling of future revenues from coastal oil exploration as a viable long term funding source for the creation of renewable energy incentives. Further, FARE believes that any funding which will encourage greater customer usage of renewable energy should be a production-based incentive. Therefore, FARE does not support the recent decision made by the Florida Solar Energy Industry Association (FlaSeia), to utilize revenues from the exploration for oil along Florida's coastline as a means to fund renewable energy expansion. FARE also does not support FlaSeia's decision to seek only a continuation of Florida's Solar Installation Rebate Program during the upcoming 2010 Legislative Session, rather than a broader agenda which incorporates a long term dedicated funding source, specifically, a production-based incentive policy. FARE calls into question the lack of foresight on the part of FlaSeia to endorse oil exploration legislation sight unseen and strongly urges FlaSeia to reverse their endorsement of any proposed legislation until such time that an actual Bill is introduced and the entire renewable energy industry has the proper opportunity to act as one unified voice. FARE is a leading advocacy organization for Renewable Energy policies in Florida. FARE is comprised of businesses, associations, manufacturers, organizations and individuals in the solar, agricultural and renewable energy industry. Appreciating your support, Mark Hedtke Pickens Plan 24th Congressional District Leader

This basically ensures that alternative energy, whether it is Wind, Solar, CNG, whatever, it must stand on it's own and not linked to Oil or any other non-renewable continued development. As we move from promoting these alternatives to their becoming the primary energy sources, then those who dream of what it should be, can help everyone discover how they too can be freed from continuing to be held "energy prisoners" like we are in the present.
