Letter to your Congress Person,

The Economic Stimulus bill that just passed the House of Representatives is very upsetting. Many of the proposed expenditures are almost frivolous and it does not take an economic scholar to know that we need to stimulate permanent job formation not just spend money on one time projects that would be “nice to do”, visa via remodeling the Mall area in Washington DC. We need more spending on infrastructure, alternative energy sources [I favor the Pickens Plan], NASA, etc.; that will have meaningful long lasting results and make good jobs that will last for some time. Importantly this type of construction expenditures will primarily be spent on made in the USA materials and labor.

Bail-outs of unsuccessful banks and States that can not balance their budgets are foolish. I had hoped that Obama and the Democrat controlled congress would be better thinkers than the Bush Republicans but it appears you all are "Not Smarter Than a 5th Grader". We can not run the federal government based on the short term effect on the stock market. Thinking long term, we may have been better off not bailing out anyone, letting the chips fall where they may and devote all our Stimulus spending on tax cuts and job formation.

Please reconsider the type of spending it will take to get us out of this economic slump and what the huge deficits will mean to the future, i.e. inflation and perhaps even continued recession. Look back at what Harding did at the beginning of the Great Depression and you will see that many of the actions taken by the federal government in fact prolonged the depressed economic cycle.

Below is some levity that sounds more real than we want to admit:

The new Economic Stimulus Plan is suppose to spend us out of the recession and taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. I will explain using the Q and A format below:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.

If you purchase a computer it will go to India.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).

If you buy a car it will go to Japan.

If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on home grown food, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.

Please buy American, if you can find it!

Best Regards,
Don Dunbar

If you don't have time to call (I have chattering children in my ear right now:-)), at least drop an email. I just sent one to Suzanne Kosmas right from her website. I'm sure a few dozen more would make a bigger impression- so don't let your inability to make a (quiet) phonecall keep you from making contact. Anything is better than nothing. :-)

Your help needed today!

Boone and the Pickens Plan need your help! As you saw from Boone's email last Friday, the stimulus package will be voted on tomorrow in the House, and it includes wind energy elements that are in line with the Pickens Plan.

We need you to make a phone calls today to your Congressman and Senators. To find the phone number of your Member of Congress, go to the House of Representatives website and the U.S. Senate website and enter the info when prompted. It will give you complete contact info, including the phone number.

Here are some talking points to use when you call your Congressman or Senator's office:

1. Urge them to tell House Leadership that their constituents support the wind energy elements included in the Stimulus Bill which will build upon 2008's successes in the wind energy sector:
-- Extension of the Production Tax Credit
-- Implementation of a renewable infrastructure loan program

2. We hope they're willing to do more on the natural gas side and provide the incentives that will greatly expand the use of domestic natural gas as a vehicle fuel in America. Expanded use of NGVs (natural gas vehicles) will help wean us off of foreign oil and create new American jobs. These incentives include:
-- Increasing the vehicle tax credit to make natural gas trucks more accessible for heavy and medium duty truck operators
-- Extending the fuel tax credit

3. The Pickens Plan works best as a whole plan - wind and natural gas - and we hope Members of Congress will support that. The Stimulus Bill is a strong start but there's more we can - and should – do.

Once you make your call, leave a comment here to let us know how it went. Or email me directly – renee.klink@pickensplan.com. (And be sure to give me your name and email address so we can make sure you get the 10 MyEnergy points we are awarding for each phone call.)

Good luck, and let's get it done!

Hi Bruce
Let me be the first to congratulate you on being the apparent leader of the Florida District 24 group. Considering the date of your post and the fact you are actually in Orlando, it would seem appropriate. I look forward to working with you and all the other group members in promoting the Pickens Plan. Best of luck to us all.

We can not let decreasing oil prices lull us to sleep again and we must keep pressing forward with new and better alternative energy sources. The Pickens Plan is the only conprehensive alternative and it needs to be adopted early in 2009.

Additionally we do not talk enough about conservation and by far the most productive action is to simply obey speed limits. Slowing down from 80 to 70 on the interstate is about a 10% savings! President Obama needs to tell the nation that the patriotic thing to do is conserve energy by obeying speed limits.

I will invite about FL 40 District 24 people to join us today and ask you to please invite others to join ASAP...
