From the desk of T. Boone Pickens

Hey Army!
Congress is on its Spring break, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of touch. Most U.S. Senators and Representatives are back in their home states and districts willing to meet with and listen to their constituents.
That’s you!
When they left for their recess legislation had been introduced to promote natural gas; to promote energy efficiency; to promote a 21st century transmission grid; and to promote a national Renewable Energy Standard – in short to promote THE PICKENS PLAN.
In my business career I have seen too many people miss out because they thought that getting close was good enough. You and I know that when you are close, that’s the time to turn up the heat and push the ball over the goal line.
Click here to send your Member of Congress an e-mail - today. Drive over to one of their local offices and chat with a staffer. Click here to coordinate an event with fellow Pickens Plan supporters in your area by joining your District Group.
Let’s keep the pressure on and we’ll win for the Pickens Plan, but more important, we’ll win for America.

Hey Army!

Today, three Members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill which will go a long way toward reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

Congressmen Dan Boren (D-OK), John Larson (D-CT) and John Sullivan (R-OK) have introduced legislation called the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2009. The shorthand is The NAT GAS ACT.

This will have almost all of the elements for natural gas that we have been pushing for in the Pickens Plan.
- It extends the tax credit for natural gas used as a transportation fuel.
- It provides a tax credit for 80 percent of the additional cost when purchasing a dedicated natural gas vehicle.
- It creates incentives for major manufacturers to sell natural gas vehicles (which they already produce for overseas markets) in the United States.

And here’s the big one

- The bill requires that 50% of vehicles the federal government buys over the next 5 years to run on natural gas!!!

CLICK HERE TO EMAIL YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS ABOUT THE NAT GAS ACT TODAY.
(Just a short form and one click!)

In 2007, the federal government bought 65,000 gasoline, diesel and E-85 vehicles. In that same year the federal government bought 129 natural gas vehicles. One Hundred Twenty Nine .

Over the next five years, the federal government will purchase about 325,000 cars and light trucks. Instead of only having bought 645 natural gas vehicles, it will now be purchasing 162,500! That will jump start domestic manufacturing capability.

Now, a bill being introduced in the U.S. House is only the starting point. There has to be a similar bill introduced in the U.S. Senate and there have to be hearings and then votes on the House and Senate floor before it goes to the President for signing.

We have a wind consultant coming to give a presentation to anyone involved in schools or government or to anyone who is interested in how to implement wind power generation for their community. He will be at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby on Sat., March 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. Contact me if you are interested in attending.

Sean, I like the idea of the Great Lakes containing a Wind Farm. I wonder how soon they would begin on a project like this? How many jobs it would create? What company would spear head this type of Wind Farm? What would Americans need to do in order to get the ball rolling??
Sean D. McCue Comment by Sean D. McCue on March 15, 2009 at 12:16am
Tribune had an article recently about wind farms in the great lakes. Looks like the Illinois wind map has that area as the highest potential. The issue is a transmission grid. What is really cool is the talk of how DC is better suited for this application. Isn't that what this plan is about. The government (the people) subsidizing this kind of investment? Instead what have we gotten for the past twenty years, big oil lobby hoodwinking this country and landing us smack in the mess we are in now. Is it a case of the technology finally catching up? I would hope so.

Act This Week (It's Easy)

The Senate is working the Stimulus Package this week, so now is the right time to contact Senators Durbin and Burris!

See Jeff's Discussion at our Illinois 11th District Group. You can use the Pickens Plan site to send it to Durbin, via Contact your US Senators. The letter is all typed in for you, or you can modify it as desired.

Senator Burris hasn’t set up his e-mail account yet, but you can use the same link to print and send the letter via snail mail to

Senator Roland W. Burris
523 DIRKSEN SENATE OFFICE BUILDING
WASHINGTON DC 20510

DC Phone: 202-224-2854

Do it NOW!

Thanks,

The Pickens Plan Needs Your Help

We urge all Illinois Congressional District 11 Group members to call our House Representative and both Senators and ask them to support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the “Stimulus Package”).

Call on the phone. You can follow up with a letter or e-mail, but make the phone call. The call will have more impact, and there is not much time (the Bill should be up for a vote in the House on Wednesday).

Call:

Representative Deborah L. (“Debbie”) Halvorson at Washington: 202-225-3635, Joliet: 815.726.4998
Senator Roland Burris at Washington: 202-224-2854
Senator Richard J. Durbin at Washington: 202-224-2152, Chicago: 312-353-4952

Tell each of them:

That you are a constituent.

That you encourage them to support passage of the Stimulus Package.

That you especially like the wind energy support provided by:
Extension of the Production Tax Credit for Renewable Energy
and implementation of a renewable infrastructure loan program..

That you ALSO want them to support increased use of domestic natural gas by
Increasing the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit to benefit medium- and heavy-duty truck operators
and extending the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit.

Report back:

To the District Group with results via this Discussion - Urgent action needed on the stimulus bill.

Martin,

I really don't know much about the "Fair Tax" (but I believe Ron Hartman does).

As far as I DO know, the "Fair Tax" has nothing to do with the Pickens Plan.

So let's keep that topic off our table. (You can contact Ron offline and I'm sure he'll be glad to share his knowledge.)

Thanks,

Question Jim, would the national sales tax eliminate Income Taxes and the IRS? Is this the plan Huckabee was speaking of? I saw where Huckabee stated the "Fair Tax" would force people who now work, "Under the Table", "Illegally" (ie. Drugs, Prostitution) would now be contributing to the collection o US Taxes. It kind of makes sense, but what are the cons with this type of tax structure??
Martin Comment by Martin on January 23, 2009 at 8:14am
I see where the Obama administration is holding true to their committment on Alternative Energy. Giving quite a substantial tax break to those using Solar and Wind Energy. This is exactly what government needs to do.
