From the desk of T. Boone Pickens

Hey Army!
Congress is on its Spring break, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of touch. Most U.S. Senators and Representatives are back in their home states and districts willing to meet with and listen to their constituents.
That’s you!
When they left for their recess legislation had been introduced to promote natural gas; to promote energy efficiency; to promote a 21st century transmission grid; and to promote a national Renewable Energy Standard – in short to promote THE PICKENS PLAN.
In my business career I have seen too many people miss out because they thought that getting close was good enough. You and I know that when you are close, that’s the time to turn up the heat and push the ball over the goal line.
Click here to send your Member of Congress an e-mail - today. Drive over to one of their local offices and chat with a staffer. Click here to coordinate an event with fellow Pickens Plan supporters in your area by joining your District Group.
Let’s keep the pressure on and we’ll win for the Pickens Plan, but more important, we’ll win for America.

Please call or email Senator Bayh + ask him to support the Renewable Electricity Standard THEN write a letter to the editor showing your support. Many thanks!

The Renewable Electricity Standard

America has the best wind power in the world. North Dakota alone has the potential to provide power for more than a quarter of the country! But we need a long-term national commitment – including a national renewable electricity standard – to spur the investment needed to tap this great energy resource.

A renewable electricity standard (RES) is a policy that calls for electric utilities to obtain a certain percentage of the electricity they supply from renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar power. 28 U.S. states already have RES policies. A national policy would enable all states to enjoy the benefits of renewable energy development. A national standard of 25% renewable electricity by the year 2025 offers a least-cost, market-friendly way to ensure that we meet an increasing share of America’s growing electricity needs with clean, domestic energy resources.

A national RES can be a boon to America’s economy and to your personal wallet. By making a national commitment to renewable energy, we will be giving businesses the certainty they need to invest in new wind energy manufacturing facilities, and to expand current ones - creating tens of thousands of new American jobs. Also, adding fixed-cost renewables to the electricity mix will help shield consumers from spikes in energy prices, potentially saving us as much as $100 billion in lower electricity and natural gas bills.

There are now bills in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives calling for 25% renewable electricity by 2025. A particularly important vote on a renewable electricity standard is expected to come up in the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee in late March or early April. Please contact your Senators and Representative to express your support for a national RES and to ask them to co-sponsor the leading RES proposals

The Pickens Plan is organizing a Virtual March on Washington to be held April 1-3, 2009.

So what is a "Virtual March"?

We are going to utilize the size and unique capabilities of the New Energy Army to have an enormous impact on the White House and Congress. The Army will focus its energy during those three days on e-mails, calls and faxes to every Member of Congress.

Between now and then we will be engaging in a series of activities to get ready for the event, including:

* Contacting Members of Congress through email and phone calls to encourage support for key aspects of the Pickens Plan.

* Recruiting new members of the Army in every Congressional District.

* Submitting letters to the editor and op-eds to newspapers around the country.

* Holding district meetings and house parties with members of the Army to discuss ways to have an impact.

* Participating in webcast events.

We will be communicating with members of the Army via email, Push, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn to build support and enthusiasm for the event. Make sure you are connected to us on any of these platforms where you have a profile!

Be sure to take photos and videos of your activities over the next couple months - we will soon be inviting you to submit items to be featured here on the Virtual March homepage.

Sign up today to participate in the Virtual March and recruit your friends and family to join you!

(If you are interested in visiting your Members of Congress during the virtual march, please contact your Regional and/or District Leader for more information.)

As an old timer who likes meetings or group discussions vs on-line chats, are there any meetings scheduled, or coffee shop groups in the comming months? Thomas Schroeder

Being from IN we have a difficult row to hoe. not only are we out of the sun belt, a lot of our wind is situated over very productive farms. We also are in the middle of Coal Country. Try getting our administration to buck that trend! Putting Green aside there is no form of energy now available as inexpensive as coal, the answer should not be to make coal more expensive, but to make Renewable Energy less costly! If we can replace foreign oil with RE first, then we can slowly diminish the need for fossil fuel. We have screamed Green and no one listens, we must make RE more cost friendly, or it will go nowhere.
Robert Z Comment by Robert Z on January 28, 2009 at 6:36am
Hi everyone, I hope this message is received by people in government who can make a difference. We need to get started on a good energy policy to find a way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and then oil in general. Im not an expert so Im not going to make recommendations. We need to find who the experts are and listen to them. Lets get started, stop talking and take action.
