From the desk of T. Boone Pickens

Hey Army!
Congress is on its Spring break, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of touch. Most U.S. Senators and Representatives are back in their home states and districts willing to meet with and listen to their constituents.
That’s you!
When they left for their recess legislation had been introduced to promote natural gas; to promote energy efficiency; to promote a 21st century transmission grid; and to promote a national Renewable Energy Standard – in short to promote THE PICKENS PLAN.
In my business career I have seen too many people miss out because they thought that getting close was good enough. You and I know that when you are close, that’s the time to turn up the heat and push the ball over the goal line.
Click here to send your Member of Congress an e-mail - today. Drive over to one of their local offices and chat with a staffer. Click here to coordinate an event with fellow Pickens Plan supporters in your area by joining your District Group.
Let’s keep the pressure on and we’ll win for the Pickens Plan, but more important, we’ll win for America.

World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.

Please call or email Senator Bayh + ask him to support the Renewable Electricity Standard THEN write a letter to the editor showing your support. Many thanks!

The Renewable Electricity Standard

America has the best wind power in the world. North Dakota alone has the potential to provide power for more than a quarter of the country! But we need a long-term national commitment – including a national renewable electricity standard – to spur the investment needed to tap this great energy resource.

A renewable electricity standard (RES) is a policy that calls for electric utilities to obtain a certain percentage of the electricity they supply from renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar power. 28 U.S. states already have RES policies. A national policy would enable all states to enjoy the benefits of renewable energy development. A national standard of 25% renewable electricity by the year 2025 offers a least-cost, market-friendly way to ensure that we meet an increasing share of America’s growing electricity needs with clean, domestic energy resources.

A national RES can be a boon to America’s economy and to your personal wallet. By making a national commitment to renewable energy, we will be giving businesses the certainty they need to invest in new wind energy manufacturing facilities, and to expand current ones - creating tens of thousands of new American jobs. Also, adding fixed-cost renewables to the electricity mix will help shield consumers from spikes in energy prices, potentially saving us as much as $100 billion in lower electricity and natural gas bills.

There are now bills in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives calling for 25% renewable electricity by 2025. A particularly important vote on a renewable electricity standard is expected to come up in the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee in late March or early April. Please contact your Senators and Representative to express your support for a national RES and to ask them to co-sponsor the leading RES proposals

The Pickens Plan is organizing a Virtual March on Washington to be held April 1-3, 2009.

So what is a "Virtual March"?

We are going to utilize the size and unique capabilities of the New Energy Army to have an enormous impact on the White House and Congress. The Army will focus its energy during those three days on e-mails, calls and faxes to every Member of Congress.

Between now and then we will be engaging in a series of activities to get ready for the event, including:

* Contacting Members of Congress through email and phone calls to encourage support for key aspects of the Pickens Plan.

* Recruiting new members of the Army in every Congressional District.

* Submitting letters to the editor and op-eds to newspapers around the country.

* Holding district meetings and house parties with members of the Army to discuss ways to have an impact.

* Participating in webcast events.

We will be communicating with members of the Army via email, Push, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn to build support and enthusiasm for the event. Make sure you are connected to us on any of these platforms where you have a profile!

Be sure to take photos and videos of your activities over the next couple months - we will soon be inviting you to submit items to be featured here on the Virtual March homepage.

Sign up today to participate in the Virtual March and recruit your friends and family to join you!

(If you are interested in visiting your Members of Congress during the virtual march, please contact your Regional and/or District Leader for more information.)

Information on site you listed http://solarbuzz.com/SolarIndices.htm shows the very high cost of solar or wind installation compared to low savings is a huge reason why even with the growing awareness of survival need to end putting poisonous carbon into the air, it will take a great amount of pressure along with drastic cost reduction to overcome humankind's current Path Dependent nature. Hopefully VERY SOON we will find methods to end this mass suicide direction and rise up in mass demanding these health and life saving methods to flow forth...

Looks like they don't have much in the way of detailed information just yet on the website. As they get further along in development I'm sure they'll put the details up. To me it's all about cost per kw and efficiency %. I'd say keep following it and see what they come up with.

The concept looks interesting but with solar cells losing much of their efficiency when being outside of 15 degrees, a solar tube just doesnt seem pratical to me. But I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow, I just read a couple paragraphs and looked at some pictures. The portability is nice, I just wonder what the cost per watt is.

Another nice site:

Thanks Travis for information... seems the first step is to locate a wind measuring device for our property... a SkyStreamEnergy dealer is listed in Evansville, Indiana that is about 35 miles ...We've been told part of our acreage is second highest in Gibson County ... about 10 acres slopes upward west of our home and there seems to always be some air movement... We did build house for passive solar collection on a true North South orientation --- has wide southern exposure where we planned to build a greenhouse connected to a walkout lower level... The land and building layouts makes awesome advertising display .....thus seems wise to approach this as an entrepreneurial enterprise... connect with manufacturers for dealership ... explore production... and research what we can build to begin... Lots to learn... Hopefully will find people with facts within the Pickens Team ... Have you investigated the products in development at http://www.solaroadtechnologies.com/ --- if so what are your thoughts?

As you can see by the wind map, on average southern Indiana isnt that great a place for wind power. Though your site may vary depending on terrain.

As far as solar, I found this great tool that estimates the size of the system you'd need to cut your energy by whatever percentage and you carbon footprint yadda yadda yadda.

Last but not least, I'm looking into a Skystream. To find the nearest dealer use their search:
