Jon,

Great to have you on board. If you ever have any questions about the Pickens Plan, please feel free to direct them to me. I will try and answer your points one by one.

1. In the past, we have asked Pickens Plan members to contact their members of Congress through email, letters and phone calls. Each point of contact is important. Just as an example, we have over 100,000 emails go out to Congress in 48 hours of Boone asking for help on the stimulus. That's amazing!

2. Putting wind power or natural gas on the ballot in Kansas is certainly an interesting option. But that is something that would have to be discuseed further with members of the state legislature.

3. The Pickens Plan has made a tremendous amount of progress in Kansas. Not only has Gov. Sebelius signed the Pickens Pledge, but Kansas stands to benefit a great deal from our recent legislative accomplishments. The Plan and the Stimulus.pdf

4. If you would like to propose a KS-02 meeting, please talk with Neal and Jack about putting something together.

Thanks for your questions!

I am revisiting this website to ask more questions about this plan and to speak out to my district.

1.) Why have the groups for each district in KS decided to only send letters to their Representatives and Senators?

- This effort seems exhausting and not too promising. From all of the blog posts I've read, it seems like this effort is not working nor producing any results. For example, Congresswoman Lynne Jenkins just recently came to K-State to speak - and wind energy is obviously not on her agenda and she doesn’t appear to understand it. The same could be said for Senator Brownback and Senator Roberts. Do we have any record of them talking about wind energy and if so, what have they said?
I think their agendas are full of other complex issues which is where they are spending their time. Thus, emailing them to support the Pickens Plan may not be the way to go for Kansas. If this effort is to work one must figure out what they care about and relate it to wind energy. I think the letters need to focus on reviving the rural communities of Kansas which are severely suffering from this recession.
Everyone must also remember that T.Boone does not have the political influence in Kansas like he does in Oklahoma or Texas. T.Boone said that himself when he was on T.V. yesterday at the energy summit with a bunch of Governors. He is not a force in Topeka and the coal companies lobbying for the 2 new plants are running the show.

2.) Have the members in each district of Kansas considered putting a referendum on the 2010 ballot?

-Colorado did this in 2004 and it worked. They now have 10% wind energy and are working towards 20% by 2020. Didn’t Gov. Sebelius say that she wanted 10% wind energy by 2015? What actions have followed her statement?

3.) What tangible progress has been made in KS from the PickensPlan?

-I have an engineer mind-frame. I like facts and results. I find it hard to support an effort if the only result is more frustration and no progress. Our district 2 webpage is just full of blog post about no tangible progress. I feel - and can relate - to all of these frustrations.

4.) Has District 2 ever considered meeting at a specific place and having an open dialogue between members?

-Corresponding through blog posts alone doesn’t seem to be working.

I haven't heard anything about the "Investment Tax Credit" in any for the news. I understand that the current credit expirers this month. Has any body else seen anything or can any one suggest where one might look to find any action or lack thereof? This is critical to get investment capitol for wind energy expansion as well as gas well drilling to enlarge our natural gas supplies. Both are critical to the Plan.

Al I found Lynn's email on the congress.gov. It is lynnjenkins.house.gov. I sent emails to all three of our leaders, doubt that they even read them.

To all members in the Ottawa, Kansas, Franklin County, I would like to enter email correspondance with each of you to try and coordinate our activities in the area. Please feel to email me, my address is on the site, with your cfmments and email addresses. I will in turn combine them into a list and provide each of you with it. From there we can discuss plans and move on them to get this done. We can then report to the plan blog our activities sugestions, etc.

Will do Geoff. They're usually all too happy to point out whats wrong with something, which makes for a great set-up to the "So whats your plan?" question. I've yet to have any sort of meaningful dialog with one of my politicians. Nancy Boyda dodged the question when I put it to her at one of her town hall meetings. I've yet to meet Mrs. Jenkins. I get canned, off-the-shelf form letters when I write them, but I'll press on. Things have to change. Giving up out of frustration is not an option.
