Some states don't have the legislation intact to sell unused electricity back to the power companies and there are some states with only "credits" given back to the individual who has a turbine and generates more than his own usage. We need to work on these states with inadequate legislation and bring them up to date.

I very much like the idea of "Energy Independence Day" on July 18th. Why don't we have T-shirts for everyone and signs and banners with an attractive patriotic looking logo proclaiming that date as the day we started becoming independent of foreign energy sources.

Is anyone in SW MO working on micro-hydro power? Would like some inputs as I finalize a design for a project in Honduras.

(CNN) -- Bruised by charges from Democrats that they've become the "party of no," Republicans on Thursday are launching an outreach effort to reshape their party's image.

The initiative, called the National Council for a New America, will send party leaders across the country for a series of town halls on health care, the economy, energy and national security.

Since, according to this news article, Republicans are seeking public input as to how to reshape their image, I think we should inform our Republican legislators that Mr. Pickens should be consulted for his opinions as how the Republican party can better address the problem of energy independence.

A major article in the Wall Street Journal echoes what T. Boone Pickens has been saying for nearly a year: There is enough natural gas under the continental United States to serve all of our needs for upwards of 100 years.

Check out the Daily PIckens, where you can read full the article.

I find Roy Blunt's response very disappointing. I don't think he gets it.

Thanks for posting, Roy. Keep working everyone--the more Reps. hear from their constituents, the better!

I wrote to Roy Blunt asking his position on 3 points: Goal fo rover 20% of electricity from wind; a strategy and plan for establishing a modern national energy grid; and regulation and incentives to move to natural gas for auto/trucks. Here is his response:

My plan to lower energy prices and bring relief to people across Missouri is simple, we must find more energy, use less of it, and invest in the future. Any energy plan worth its salt must contain a better use of America’s energy for Americans. It must include the development of conventional sources of energy, along with renewables, nuclear, and clean coal technology. We should open up domestic American energy, explore for energy 50 miles or more off America’s coasts, promote energy conservation and efficiency, and provide critical incentives for new technologies. We need this balanced approach to bring down the price at the pump and utility bills.

The current gasoline stock used by U.S. motorists includes “boutique,” or specially formulated, fuels, which are required by law in certain communities. When supplies are limited, prices rise quickly, substantially, and sometimes with very little prior notice. Starting in 2001, I introduced legislation, parts of which were included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which began the process of capping the number of specialty fuel blends, while allowing communities faced with unforeseen shortages a waiver to use conventional gasoline. Congress should work to expand this concept.

On March 31, 2009, House Democrats announced an energy plan based on a cap-and-trade energy tax. This is nothing more than a regressive tax that would be levied on families, small businesses, and farmers in Missouri and would cost any family that turns on a light switch, drives a car, plugs in an appliance or purchases an American made item an extra $3,100 a year. Unfortunately, the damage this proposal does to our economy doesn’t stop with increased taxes. American manufacturers could be forced out of business because of the unfair advantage new government regulations in this provision give foreign companies.

Is congress listening? We need to continue to focus on Boone's top 3 until we have our representatives undivided attention.

Hi Team,

I wanted to let you know that between now and April 19, over the Congressional Easter Recess, we have an opportunity to reach our Members of Congress in their home districts! Having our leaders hear from us, the constituents, makes the biggest impact!

So here's what to do:

The focus is now on 2 new pieces of legislation: NAT GAS Act of 2009 and RES (Renewable Electricity Standard). Boone needs your help to rally local supporters to contact your elected officials during the Congressional Recess.

Here is what you can do:

1) Generate letters, emails and calls to your Members of Congress during the Congressional Recess
2) Set up meetings with your Members of Congress or an aide over the next week while they are on recess
3) Organize local meetings, events, happy hours, receptions with local supporters and urge them to call or email their representative on the spot!
4) Submit Op Eds & Letters to the Editor to local newspapers and media outlets (If you want to do this option, let me know and I will be glad to help! )

Contact info for your Congressmen and Senators can be found at http://www.house.gov/ or http://www.senate.gov/

Finally, please post any updates on activity that you initiate in your district. I report to Boone on a daily basis, and your feedback keeps him up-to-date!

KEEP PUSHING!
