From the desk of T. Boone Pickens

Hey Army!
Congress is on its Spring break, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of touch. Most U.S. Senators and Representatives are back in their home states and districts willing to meet with and listen to their constituents.
That’s you!
When they left for their recess legislation had been introduced to promote natural gas; to promote energy efficiency; to promote a 21st century transmission grid; and to promote a national Renewable Energy Standard – in short to promote THE PICKENS PLAN.
In my business career I have seen too many people miss out because they thought that getting close was good enough. You and I know that when you are close, that’s the time to turn up the heat and push the ball over the goal line.
Click here to send your Member of Congress an e-mail - today. Drive over to one of their local offices and chat with a staffer. Click here to coordinate an event with fellow Pickens Plan supporters in your area by joining your District Group.
Let’s keep the pressure on and we’ll win for the Pickens Plan, but more important, we’ll win for America.

The Pickens Plan is organizing a Virtual March on Washington to be held April 1-3, 2009.

So what is a "Virtual March"?

We are going to utilize the size and unique capabilities of the New Energy Army to have an enormous impact on the White House and Congress. The Army will focus its energy during those three days on e-mails, calls and faxes to every Member of Congress.

Between now and then we will be engaging in a series of activities to get ready for the event, including:

* Contacting Members of Congress through email and phone calls to encourage support for key aspects of the Pickens Plan.

* Recruiting new members of the Army in every Congressional District.

* Submitting letters to the editor and op-eds to newspapers around the country.

* Holding district meetings and house parties with members of the Army to discuss ways to have an impact.

* Participating in webcast events.

We will be communicating with members of the Army via email, Push, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn to build support and enthusiasm for the event. Make sure you are connected to us on any of these platforms where you have a profile!

Be sure to take photos and videos of your activities over the next couple months - we will soon be inviting you to submit items to be featured here on the Virtual March homepage.

Sign up today to participate in the Virtual March and recruit your friends and family to join you!

(If you are interested in visiting your Members of Congress during the virtual march, please contact your Regional and/or District Leader for more information.)

A message from Congressman Jim Gordan:

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This bill was introduced by Representative David Obey [D-WI-7] on January 26, 2009. After H.R. 1 passed both the House and Senate in different forms the bill came out of conference and was passed in final form on February 13, 2009. H.R. 1 was signed into law by President Obama in Colorado on February 17, 2009.

Some would argue that spending tax dollars on direct payments to citizens or investments in transportation and infrastructure can stimulate economic activity in the private sector. However, it is important to point out that only 4% of the spending in this bill would be on infrastructure. Only 5% would be on so-called "green jobs," another stated goal of the stimulus bill. The vast majority of the spending is unrelated to economic stimulus. Beyond the fiscal irresponsibility contained in this bill there were a number of other concerns that I had. In conference, the E-Verify system was removed, language pertaining to a socialized health care system was added, and ambiguous regulations regarding religious-based groups use of buildings built with stimulus dollars was also added.

The total cost of this bill is nearly as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government. Even if the bill does create the 3 million jobs the administration suggests it will, the bill will cost taxpayers $275,000 per job created.

For these reasons, I voted against the bill, and I suspect these were among the reasons that every Congressional Republican and several Congressional Democrats voted against it as well.

In an effort to quickly move the massive spending bill through the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her leadership team refused to allow debate or a vote on an alternative stimulus proposal, of which I am the lead cosponsor. Our plan didn't have the unnecessary spending on federal government employees. Instead, it would cut taxes for middle class Americans and small business owners, and would change the tax code to provide better incentives for businesses to invest and create jobs in the private sector.

I am convinced that simply "spending more" is not the answer to our economic troubles. The big-spenders in Congress have spent our tax dollars at an unprecedented rate over the past year, on everything from boondoggle bailouts to Wall Street handouts. As a fiscal conservative, I believe our first step should be fiscal responsibility. We should keep taxes low, eliminate government waste, and resist the urge to think that government programs are the best way to help grow our economy.

I will pay close attention to how this issue develops under the new administration. I will continue to fight for fiscally responsible policies and will not support any legislation that wastes the taxpayers' money. In the meantime, I hope you will find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any other concerns or questions you may have. You can reach us by phone at (202) 225-2676, or by e-mail through our website at http://jordan.house.gov.

Jim Jordan

A message from Mr. sherrod Brown:

Thank you for getting in touch with me about legislation to promote economic recovery. I have heard from many Ohioans sharing their ideas for how to best stimulate the economy and which proposals they believe should or should not have been included in this legislation. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and concerns with me.

Last year the economy shed 2.5 million jobs. We now face the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The federal government has acted to restore confidence in our economy, create jobs, and rebuild our nation’s aging infrastructure. From shrinking retirement funds to high unemployment rates to stagnant wages, Ohioans are facing tremendous economic hardship.

Congress's approach to this economic crisis, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, was designed to be timely, targeted, and temporary. This comprehensive legislation passed in the Senate with my support on February 13, 2009.

One of the fastest and most effective ways to assist Americans in desperate need was to increase funding for safety net programs, such as those for energy assistance, health care, and nutrition. It was also crucial to provide states with the help they need to continue providing necessary services.

Another important step taken was to invest in our nation’s infrastructure. Studies indicate that not only do these projects create jobs, but every dollar spent on infrastructure adds $1.59 to our economy. Infrastructure projects that improve our roads and water systems and invest in alternative energy and mass transit projects not only help rebuild our state, but promote much needed economic growth. I worked hard to ensure these funds were targeted to states like Ohio that have been hardest hit by this economic downturn.

If you wish to learn more about various aspects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, please visit the Administration's website at http://www.recovery.gov. Additionally, my website targeted to Ohioans -- http://brown.senate.gov/issues_and_agenda/issues/stimulus/ -- provides useful information about the tax cuts included in the legislation, as well as assistance on how to apply for funding and federal grants.

As the Senate considers further measures to rebuild our economy, I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind. Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch with me.

Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown

A recent message from Senator Voinovich:
Thank you for contacting my office. I genuinely appreciate your e-mail and thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. As with all communications with my office, your views have been recorded.

Every day, I hear from the people of Ohio through their phone calls, letters and faxes to my office. As you can imagine, I also receive a significant number of e-mails daily. Mass-generated e-mails sent by a third-party group, which are usually form text, have hindered my ability to respond to the e-mails, phone calls, letters and faxes that I receive. Due to the increasing number of mass-generated e-mails received by my office, effective March 16, 2007, my office will be implementing changes to the constituent correspondence process.

Consequently, I have established a new system on my website to better serve Ohio constituents. If you would like a written response to your e-mail, please go to http://voinovich.senate.gov and click on the CONTACT tab to fill out the web CONTACT FORM. By filling out this form, you will receive a written response from my office.

Thank you for your patience. Should you experience any problems with my web CONTACT FORM, please call my office at 202-224-3353 and my staff will be happy to guide you through the electronic correspondence process.

Sincerely,

George V. Voinovich
United States Senator

( please note.... I am not a big fan of this Senator, he has repeatably voted against Green Energy and Climate Change issues....... )

From the words of Congressman Sherrod Brown about Renewable Energy:

Thank you for expressing your support for clean energy policies. For far too long our country has pursued a policy of consumption rather than conservation when it comes to energy usage.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on foreign oil, we must pursue significant and innovative energy-saving efforts. It is also important that we provide the funds needed to rapidly develop our next generation energy sources and technology. That is why in the last Congress, I introduced the Green Energy Production Act. This bill would provide the resources and encourage the entrepreneurship needed to bring alternative energy sources to the marketplace and make our schools and communities more energy efficient.

As Congress and the new administration craft an economy recovery package, federal assistance must be focused on bringing new jobs to suffering communities while also rebuilding our nation’s aging infrastructure. Studies show that infrastructure projects not only create jobs, but every dollar spent on infrastructure adds $1.59 to the GDP. Infrastructure projects that improve our roads and water systems and invest in alternative energy and mass transit projects not only help rebuild our state, but promote much needed economic growth.

Whether it’s in component manufacturing, conservation projects, or cutting edge research, Ohio’s workforce can be a leader in building, growing, and working on projects that will revitalize our economy, while building a more clean and efficient infrastructure. In fact, studies have shown that with the right investment, over 80,000 green jobs could be created in Ohio.

I appreciate your support and will continue to work for sound energy policy that creates jobs in Ohio and protects our nation’s economy for future generations.
