I hope that we can drop the partisan politics and deal with energy issues. I understand that currently energy, economy, and politics are hightly charged. If we expect to achieve anything we must forget about political parties and move forward. If the pioneers of America waited for an economic stimulus package before heading west, the west would still be unsettled.

Regardless of your legislators political persuasion, America needs energy to run. I can promise you when they turn off the lights or you cant drive your car because of energy issues, a crisis will occur. We can prevent that sort of crisis by acting responsibly now. Responsible action is a long term energy plan that includes strategic use of oil reserves, renewable sources (hydro/solar/wind/bio) and intelligent conservation.
My two cents

I caught a part of the CNN interview of John Podesta and T. Boone. The interviewer seemed making much of the bipartisan nature of their undertaking. Neither denied it. It is clear that the official position of T. Boone Pickens is bipartisian. He doesn't care what party you are he just wants your support. Moreover, he will try really seriously to get it. He, like most wealthy men, most assuredly supports both parties financially.

Now to the matter at hand. This blog was/is supposed to be apolitical. Kathy Ray made a comment about the "democrats throwing us under the bus". That is political. I responded in kind and my response was removed. Her response remains. I have slowed up my responses. If the blog continues to be political and I am not allowed to respond in kind I will be forced to remove my name.

You not following the lead of your leader. For his purposes he is apolitical. If you cannot do this you are not representing him well. For myself I thought things would be better if the Pickens plan were to succeed. But I will not play on a playing field that is not level.

In this video, Oklahoma House of Representatives Leader Chris Benge talks about using natural gas to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

I am happy that the stimulus package does contain help and encouragement for wind power. I do not yet know just how much good the help will do? We can all hope. We still do need scientific breakthrough. We need inexpensive energy storage. Light, inexpensive, efficient storage would essentially solve our problems. We use carbon fuels because they store energy. I know less about how to do this than I did in1950 when I first puzzled over the possible construction of Dick Tracey's wrist radio. At that moment the transistor was undiscovered. We have been cutting basic research. Bad idea.

If storage were to become available, many of the currently marginal ideas for energy production would go instantly viable. If ever there was a demand for a project "Apollo" this is it. If Boone Pickens could store his wind power cheaply, he could and would cap his gas wells. The wind is certainly inexpensive.

If the economy of the United States fails all of the Pickens plan effort fails with it. As of this writing the economy of the U.S. is still in reverse. It still. has to come to a stop before it can start forward. Having said that the oil companies have shot themselves in the foot. In the last two years they have raised the price of diesel from 10% under the price of gasoline to 20% above. I suspect that this move on their part may open a door for CNG in 18 wheelers. The big trucking companies might even be willing to help build the infrastructure.

The farm tractor/farm equipment companies might be interested. Farmers operate on terribly tight margins. During the latter forties and early fifties vast numbers of Oklahoma farmers used propane tractors. The extra price of diesel and the extra cost of the diesel engine are a double whammy against the user.

It might be of interest to note that as a result Honda has dropped plans to import one of it's European diesels. This business of calling Inhofe, Coburn, and Tom Cole has so far seemed fruitless. They have been required by their sponsors to consistently vote no. We probably need to be making an argument to Henry Waxman. He heads up the energy committee. We know now that it did not make it into the stimulus package. Native production is a serious issue in the time of war. This seems of no issue in this era. The president rides around in a British built helicopter. For some reason energy self sufficiency seems to keep taking the back seat.

Kathy thanks for the info. It looks like www.cngforums.com has some useful information. It seems that everyone has alot of questions of compatability, parts and legalities. There are plenty of manufacturers in my area that could and would build complete kits if they knew what was needed. Does anyone know of any substantial research that has been done on this? Who is the go to guy or girl for these answers. It seems to me that we need to get these questions answered so that we can begin to implement the change. I know that CNG is a viable fuel source (if I'm not mistaking the water taxi's in Bricktown are CNG for pollution control) but it seems to me that currently there are no standards for such an undertaking. Am I wrong?

A bill was introduced last year to remove some of the restrictions. It died in the finance committee and has to be reintroduced. I hope our government solves this issue before we all start buying canadian vehicles.

Chris: Check out the Group section on this site there is information on CNG for vehicles.

I would like to thank everyone that called Cole, Coburn and Inhofe offices. I have been told that they do support the Pickens Plan, but that they did not support the stimulus package because there was some issues in the package that needed to be addressed. So I would ask you to call them and thank them for supporting the PICKENS PLAN. I hope the Democrats have not throwed us under the bus on the stimulus package. I voted for these gentlemen and trust their judgement on not voting for the package. Kindest Regards, Kathy Ray, Co-Leader District OK-04.
