Natural gas vs battery car

is there info anywhere on the total energy cost of a natural gas versus battery car? it seems to me that it is more efficient to use the energy producing substance directly in the car (as IN CNG) rather than using fuel to generate electricity then charge a battery... plus making the battery, pollution from mining.etc....
