Just checking in. Is there anyone in this group besides Dani Lanz? I suppose when gasoline prices get higher and you have no other options aside from hooving it, things will change. And they will. Members: I've been working this stuff for 35 years now (its part of my job), and it really isn't just a situation of convenience or desparation. At some point in the near future, we will be right back to where it really was getting ugly. How will you help mitigate the situation?
Dani: Can you delete this group. Anyone really interested can always join someone else. Hate to say it, but from the minute I met this Clint, he really didn't want to help...just wanted something on his resume. Same goes with Alder. What jerks.

Let’s get to 120 by 11/20/09

Army:

What a couple of weeks it’s been and I have lots to report and something very important to ask.

There’s a new Natural Gas Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives which is headed by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) and Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK). The more than 40 bi-partisan members of the caucus held a major hearing on Capitol Hill. The Natural Gas Caucus talked about how the development of America’s natural gas resources will help set America on a path to energy independence and create millions of new jobs. It was a great event and an important message to get out there.

But here’s the really important part.

We’ve got just under 100 cosponsors of the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1835) in the House—and that’s great—but I think we can educate more Members of Congress, build on that support and do a lot more.

Click here to email your Member of Congress and ask them to become a cosponsor of the NAT GAS Act.

I think we can get at least another 20+ cosponsors in the coming weeks so I’m calling on every member of the Army to reach out to their Member of Congress right now so that we can get to at least 120 sponsors by November 20th. I’m calling it 120 by 11-20.

I’m going to be working the phones and I need you to as well. Army, we can get this done and show Congress that it’s time to end our dependence on foreign oil.

Click here to email your Member of Congress and ask them to become a cosponsor of the NAT GAS Act.

Stay tuned because we’re going to post regular updates about our progress and highlight those members who are working to get us off foreign oil.

Let’s keep the pressure on!

– Boone

P.S. We recently ran an ad in the news publications which cover Capitol Hill. Click here to view the short video we did about this really unique ad. It’s getting people’s attention.

Be sure to visit the Hatch/Pickens op-ed and leave a pro-Pickens plan comment that encourages other Utah leaders to get on board.

Senator Orrin Hatch and Boone Pickens wrote a great commentary published in the Salt Lake Tribune. If you haven't seen it--here is the link.

T. Boone Pickens had an op-ed essay in the Indianapolis Star which reminded Hoosiers that, although high oil prices have dropped off their radar screen “the total amount of U.S. dollars we ship overseas to fund our oil imports is still staggering.” It's easy to write on and submit it to your local paper:

Boone wrote:

If oil stays at the OPEC target of $75 a barrel, we will export nearly $300 billion — a third of $1 trillion that could, and should, be cycling through the American economy instead of the economies of the Middle East, North Africa and South America.

Seventy percent of the oil we import is used as a transportation fuel as gasoline or diesel. Batteries and fuel cells are not ready for widespread use, Boone said, but he wrote:

We have a domestic fuel that can replace imported oil. It is natural gas, and we have a lot of it. According to a recent study we have 2,000 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, enough to last for 118 years.

It’s not all about the money. Jobs are a big part of the need to stop depending on imported oil.

The United States should look for every possible way to create more domestic jobs. Jump-starting a natural gas vehicle sector would help do that. From manufacturing, to refitting, to maintaining vehicles, to increased drilling (and providing the tools to do that) and upgrading the nation’s distribution system would produce tens of thousands of jobs starting within weeks, not years.
