I just found this in CNN and thought the team might enjoy it.

Team,

Yesterday I met with Karen Glitman and Paddy Shea, the organizers of the UVM Natural Gas Vehicle workshop. I reviewed the Pickens Plan with them and discussed how we might aid one another for the upcoming workshop.

I asked if we might be a sponsor for this event and that seemed agreeable with Karen and Paddy. I discussed this with Geoff and the national organization supports this effort. Additionally a table will be made available for us to discuss the Pickens Plan, hand out Plan materials and have a sign up sheet. Karen is asking our team to help get the word out to fleet operators across the state in an effort to maximize attendance.

Here's my concern and problem. My wife and I are leaving on Saturday May 2nd and won't be back in town until May 29th...I'll miss the event. I need the team to step up, and staff the table. After Friday, I'll have internet access after May 8th until May 17th, so I can be in touch with the team. I'd like volunteers for this important event for the team.
My home number is 802 893-589. Please call.

Regards,
Jim

Thanks Geoff. I also gave Peter a Take the Pledge form. He briefly looked it over and said he usually doesn't sign things like this because it ties his hands. I told him this doesn't lock him into any specific legislation, just a recognition and support for a plan of action. He handed it to his aide. I'll continue to follow up to see if I can get him to sign. Having today's copy of USA Today with a pic and article of T. Boone didn't hurt. I was able to contact several at the diner about the Plan and left my DL card.

I think an home run with Peter would be co-sponsorship on HR1835 and visible support for the UVM meeting in May.

Regards,
Jim

PS Is there a Senate piece of corresponding legislation? I've not been able to find it.

Jim,

GREAT job my man! Way to put a great faceon the Pickens Plan in the VT-01. With a great guy like you, now Congressman Welch knows we are serious and organized on a local level.

Fatastic!

As I mentioned in an email to the team, an opportunity to meet Congressman Welch did happen this morning at Libby's Dinner in Colchester. I was able to put a face to the Pickens Plan locally. He is supportive of the idea of NG as an alternative fuel. I reminded him of HR 1835, and provided him a copy of the bill. I mentioned it was assigned to a Subcommittee he's on. He acknowledged it was and would study it. I also asked him to sign on as a co-sponsor of this legislation and he said he'd look into it. I also gave him a copy of the notice of a NGV seminar being held by UVM on May 27th. He seemed not to know of this and I suggested that along with his support of the bill, his vocal support of the UVM event would go a long ways to provide the tipping point in Vermont for use of NG in fleet vehicles.

We'll continue to follow up on this as it unfolds.

Regards,
Jim Spencer

NEWS :::
The House of Representatives is considering a bill H.R. 1835. Its title is "New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2009". The meat of this legislation is to drive expansion of Natural Gas fuel as an alternative to oil. Please write and call Representative Welch telling him you support this legislation and urging him to vote FOR it. Please do it today.

Additionally encourage the Congressman to sign on as a co-sponsor of the measure. As of yet he hasn't.

Regards,
Jim

VIRTUAL MARCH DAY 2 - Boone Needs YOU

The Department of Energy has released the oil import figures for the month of March 2009. The data shows we imported 386 barrels at a cost of $18 billion. While we are importing less oil because of the recession, the percentage of oil we are importing is remaining disappointingly stable. The March numbers show we imported 65% percent of the oil we used.

Over the past 12 months, America has had to import nearly two-thirds of the oil we need. In 2008 that amounted to $475 billion dollars. Keep in mind, this is not a one-time payment like a stimulus package or a bail-out bill. This is an annual cost of over $400 billion per year.

CLICK HERE TO EMAIL YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TODAY AND ASK THEM TO TAKE ACTION TO REDUCE OUR DEPENDENCY ON FOREIGN OIL.

As you know, today is the start of the Pickens Plan Virtual March on Washington. I included some messages below that you should feel free to use when trying to get friends and family to participate.

This is going to be my Facebook status over the next three days:

“Boone Pickens, Rock the Vote and I urged policy makers to pass energy legislation. You can too: http://tinyurl.com/c6b53s

This is what I emailed my friends, family and neighbors – and then sent to all of my Facebook friends:

“Join me, Boone Pickens and Rock the Vote in telling Congress and the President: Help improve our environment, economy & bring us toward energy independence by passing energy legislation now! Be heard today! http://tinyurl.com/c6b53s

April 1-3 is going to be an exciting time for the Pickens Plan and everyone involved! We have over 4.5 million people participating in this March with us. The more folks who contact Congress, the more impact we have on the debate.

For the first time in our nation’s history, we have millions of people converging on Washington, speaking with a unified voice, and demanding a viable, sustainable energy policy that ends our dependence on foreign oil.

It’s Go Time! Contact your member of Congress today!

Boone is counting on you. Visit http://www.pickensplan.com/virtualmarch/ today and let your voice be heard!

I've received this inviation to attend a one day seminar on Natural Gas Vehicles offered by UVM. I've tried to do a cut and paste but not sure how much of it came along in the process. I've trying to sent up a meeting with Kathy Glitman of UVM to discuss how we might include the Pickens Plan into the introduction.

Stay tuned.
