Haven't been able to get a response from the pickens team on an idea. Maybe you have some pull some where. Assuming the new wind farm is on hold, why not setup a fund to add a windmill to an existing wind farm ? I would contribute to it. My original reason for joining was to increase the use of wind energy !

SC-01 Energy Exposition
Horry County, South Carolina- Pickens Plan members are organizing the first ever GO GREEN EXPO on April 18th, 2009 in an effort to support and celebrate Local businesses that are taking on Green Energy initiatives. This includes all businesses that sell, promote, recycle and/or use products that benefit both people and the Earth.

What is the Pickens Plan??? Included in this packet is information for you to read with details about the Pickens Plan and what this dedicated group of individuals is trying to accomplish by getting the word out to the general public regarding these very important issues facing the United States of America!

This GO GREEN EXPO, promoted by the members of the Pickens Plan of Horry County, is an invitation to local business owners to set up a booth to highlight their Green methods, products and ideas.

***Due to liability issues, only those products and methods that have been tested and declared safe to people and the environment can be featured in your display***

As mentioned before, this is the very first GO GREEN EXPO. The hope is many people will come and explore this event. This will give participating businesses an opportunity to get the attention of a like minded audience.

If your business offers products and services that benefit the lives of all people and the Earth, you must take advantage of this opportunity!

We are asking that all participants give a cash and/or green service or product donation.
Money collected from this event will go to pay for necessities such as on site, public toilets, trash collection/removal and electricity.
Donations of green related services and/or products will be given out as raffle prizes to those attending .

The GO GREEN EXPO location is 259 Landmark Road, off of Route 501, approximately 4 miles north of the Wal-Mart Super Center in Conway. The Expo will be open to the public from 10 AM to 6 PM.

We will have speakers talking to the attendees regarding the importance of the recycling and conserving of energy. Pickens Plan members will speak out against the exporting of US wealth to foreign countries for fuels and energy. Additionally, they will be introducing ideas about new energy and fuel production methods.

We are excited to include that we are in contact with Ed Matricardi, South Carolina State representative of the Pickens Plan Team, who is trying to arrange his schedule so that he can attend and speak at this event. Further, he has enlisted the help of the national Pickens Plan Team in Dallas, TX, to put together a package of materials pertinent to our event, including but not limited to signage and printed information to hand out to the attendees. Additionally, they will be helping us drive media interest to our event. We are very excited to have help on the state and national level!

WON'T YOU PLEASE JOIN US?????

If you are interested in participating in this first ever GO GREEN EXPO, please contact Dawn Owens via email at Dawn.owens@gmail.com.

Participation Notification Deadline is March 20th.

The Pickens Plan Team of Horry County thanks you for your participation in this very important initiative.

Ok-you have got to check out FORD! We all hear about what GM is doing with the VOLT but no one is talking about FORD and just what they are doing to go Green!

Did you know that Ford is making Material that is as durable as plastic and leather but made of SOY BEANS and other plant life? They are also teaming up with Edision Eletrric to develop and promote the HYBRED Electric!

I AM SO EXCITED I CAN JUST SCREAM.

You all might want to consider looking at Ford Motors in better detail!

In Florida they have dealership that is Solar Powered and they recycle everything they can.

I do not have solor panels on my home and I do not have and Eletric car, but one day soon I hope too!

Average cost of electric vehicle vs gasoline: Less than 1/2

Electricity Basics
Electricity used to power vehicles is generally provided by the electricity grid and stored in the vehicle's batteries. Fuel cells are being explored as a way to use electricity generated on board the vehicle to power electric motors. Unlike batteries, fuel cells convert chemical energy from hydrogen into electricity.

Vehicles that run on electricity have no tailpipe emissions. Emissions that can be attributed to electric vehicles are generated in the electricity production process at the power plant.

Home recharging of electric vehicles (EVs) is as simple as plugging them into an electric outlet. Electricity fueling costs for electric vehicles are reasonable compared to gasoline, especially if consumers take advantage of off-peak rates. However, electricity costs vary across the U.S. depending on location, type of generation, and time of use. For average U.S. electricity prices, see the Energy Information Administration's Residential Electricity Prices: A Consumer's Guide. Many states, particularly California, have public access electric outlets at libraries, shopping centers, hospitals, and businesses.

Vehicles with direct current (DC) electric systems get about 0.4 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per mile, while those with more efficient alternating current (AC) systems get about 0.174 to 0.288 kWh per mile. If your home electricity rate is $0.13 per kWh, it would cost about $0.05 per mile for DC operation and $0.03 cents per mile for AC operation. You would pay $0.12 per mile for gasoline in a vehicle that gets 25 miles per gallon when gasoline sells for $3 per gallon.

I own an electric car, it is a 1975 Citicar. Basically its a enclosed golf cart. A friend of mine back in 97 worked for a group that tested and reviewed alternative fuel vehicles. one of which he had tested was the EV1. I got to ride in it a few times and it was cool, and very fast. We should have electric vehicles on the road. With that said blaming the oil companies or the Bush administration is passing the buck. Americans wanted Hummers and giving them a tax incentive only helped the decision to buy that much easier. If we really want electric vehicles we could have them produced and in our driveway in as short as 6 months, by not buying gas vehicles. This is free market at its best, if we don't buy it they wont make it and vice versa.

I have been driving a Columbia Summit since December 2006. For the last two months, I have been excited about driving my all new Columbia Mega. Refueling in the privacy of my garage with a 110 volt outlet for less than 3 cents per mile and no tailpipe emissions is what PickensPlan is all about.

If one or more auto companies come out with a PHEV at a reasonable price, they will sell millions. All I have read though says they will cost several thousand more than regular hybrids. We have to get to parity costs to make PHEV's affordable, or at least get a rebate or some incentive to buy them. With gas prices dropping now, this will hurt the introduction of the PHEV's and many companies my chose not to roll them out.
