Placing solar panels on Atl. high rises may also reduce the cities huge summer heat signature. But, it has to be cost effective. The pain of change has to be less than the pain of staying the same of the folks won't make a move.

Greetings Friends,
We all need to thank Mr. Pickens for explaining the energy problem that we as a nation face. Earlier it was one Group (users) pointing fingers at the other Group (suppliers) and vice versa. The problem is real. It was magnified to some extent, in recent times, by speculators. But, the truth is we are importing more oil every year and producing less. We are sending billions of dollars overseas.

I like Mr. Pickens Plan but I think it needs to be supplemented by other plans. It by itself will not get us to Energy Independence. It will just buy us more time. For this reason I have posted a petition for Energy Independence .

Please (a) sign the Petition and (b) forward it to your friends. United we can achieve Energy Independence and avoid this constant financial bleeding of our great nation.
Thanks.

Regards and Best wishes,

Fred- I work with several mechnical and electrical engineers and they fully support the idea of the concentrated solar array as being a viable solution to energy woes. They are all graduates of GT so there mentality is very theoritical, scientific, and practical. The Nellis Air Force Base project was something they definately support as an example of this technology working supplying 25% of the base electrical needs or enough for 12,000 homes. It's kind of funny that being in the desert and optimum solar generation area that 50% instead of 25% is not being utilized considering the amount of desert and space available. It must be a monetary reason keeping them from providing 50% of power demand of the base. It's amazing that the concentrated array in Seville, Spain will produce 300 MW of power for over 180,000 homes. The cost of this facility was a little over 1.9 billion, I hope my conversion of Euro's to U.S. dollars is correct. I think this is negligible considering the maintenance and prodction cost are minimum compared to a traditional power plant and the labor intensive process. They use a water heating process versus the hydraulic oil in the on thats being constructed currently in the U.S.. The plant I was speaking of is still under development and is supposebly being placed in the northern U.S..

Robby - That tech dircection, in my humble opinion, is pretty important for us all cause of the very reasons you stated.... I believe what you have described is similar to the largest PV system presently in the U.S., Nellis Air Force Base. You will see it referred to as CSP (aka, Concentrated Solar Power).

Fred I've read about the solar concept and it is viable. Interesting note though, I just recently worked with a robotics programmer on a company project. He informed me that he has recently been involved in installation of robotics for handling mirrors being manufactured for a solar project. It involves parabola 1.5 mm thick mirrors placed around a hydraulic oil tube in the center. The oil is heated by the solar concentration and passed through a boiler where water is heated and steam is generated to turn an electric turbine. It takes up half of a square mile I think. This would be interesting since its more of a compact form of solar generation since it concentrates the sun energy.

SUBJECT: Solarizing Georgia to help w/ Energy Independence
Academically speaking we could reproduce every bit of electricity that Georgia consumed last year with basic 'non-fancy' fixed position solar panels (simply 125 watt rigid panels) arrayed in less than 20 miles x 20 miles.... I have had half a dozen people arrive at this same conclusion.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Energy... we could do the same for the whole country with an area measuring 110 miles x 110 miles...... take a look: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/solar/pv_quick_facts.html

P.S. Please understand, I am offering the above notion as an item that is purely 'academically' noteworthy (because on that level it is valid) - there are technical challenges to it that must be addressed such as transmission line power loss and storage. However, it places the concept out there in a tangible fashion that demonstrats that we could move toward solar in Georgia in a massively meaningful way.

Hi, I am a former Texan that moved to GA and am familar with the Sweetwater project that Mr. Pickens setup in TX. It is a sight to see! I am willing to put my all into anything that will allow a new change of thinking of transportation and utilities bcuz they do not have to run off the same thing. Many people limit themselves to a few types of energy and not reach out and see what is possible for small, medium or large use. My grandchildren can figure it out in just talking about it. Why can't we open ourselves up to utilizing what is there or supporting inventors to bring us new ideas?

Okay, off my box now. Let me know what and how I can help. I was waiting for something to happen and it has.....

Hey Folks,

Thanks for taking the lead and creating a group. This is exactly what we are going to need to sustain this campaign and realize its goals.

My name's Brett and I'm the Director of Online Organizing for PickensPlan. I want to be as helpful as possible in making this group work for you, and coordinating with the rest of the campaign.

Here's a link to a discussion on tips for a successful group:

Please take look at our group site Mariah Power. The Windspire in now on display in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Capitol Botanic Garden through October 2008. Units are going up in California, Nevada, and Utah now, and we will very visable and effective throughout Hawaii this year. Mariah will be available worldwide as production increases with the completion of a new plant in Youngstown, Ohio. Our state transportation systems are failing and public tranport is non existant. We need to solicit our state representatives and demand that they address the issues that are facing our state.
