Have you ever had a idea that you thought was a good solution to a problem?

This Online Think Tank, known as the Hedtke (pronounced Head Key) Institute was created to bring together a diverse group of very broad, creative thinkers with practical intelligence, to develop ideas, solve problems, develop solutions, envision new technology, and to develop “a strategy for the future of humanity”. Over the length of its existence, many thousands of people will be included in the interchange of ideas and communication of new concepts. How do we accomplish this task, when there are so many opinions and diverse experience? Simply join us, review a posted problem and then send your solutions. If you know of a problem, please feel free to submit it, for solutions. Perhaps a consensus may not be reached on some things, however truths are always true no matter who expresses them! Using your Head is the Key to arriving at any solution...At The Hedtke Institute we use real ideas. Our members think and come up with ideas for all types of problems. Ideas are rich in solutions and options! Help by contributing yours here.

It has come to my attention that HI members need to reassess the oil dependency problem in light of a recent report that has revealed US oil reserves tantamount to containing more oil on mainland US than all of the rest of the world's oil combined. My name is William Kanjorski.I live in Mims,Florida.I have a theory for an invention.I went to BCC and spoke with a physics professor.I told the professor that I have a thoery for an invention that could solve our energy and pollution problems. He just grinned at me as if to say YA RIGHT.I told the professor that I needed someone to prove my thoery wrong so I could stop thinking ab out it.The professor took me into his office and I explained my theory to him.He did but forth an arguement for why it would not work. However,I was able to shoot down his arguement so fast that he got angry and said,"IT WILL NEVER WORK BUT IF IT DOES YOU WILL WIN A NOBLE PRIZE".I would like to challenge the members of this group to prove my theory wrong. Here is my thoery. There has been a lot of talk about wind energy. How are the winds on the Earth created? The winds are created when a zone of low pressure air and a zone of high pressure air form. The winds flow from the high pressure to the low pressure. What if there were a way to create artificial wind? There is a way to create artificial wind.It is called a wind tunnel.Wind tunnels have been creating artificial wind since the Wright Brothers used one to test designs for their first airplane. What is a wind tunnel?A wind tunnel is a piece of pipe with a fan inside.Turn the fan on and the wind tunnel draws or sucks air in one end and blows it out the other end. What would happen if a second pipe were welded to one end of the wind tunnel and then bent around and welded to the other end of the wind tunnel. This would look like a big donut.(I read somewhere that the Ford Motor Company has a wind tunnel built just like this.)Start the fan and the air would flow from the high pressure zone that forms infront of the fan blade, throught the entire length of the pipe and back to the low pressure zone that would form behind the fan blade. The question then is how long can you build the second pipe?Answer-infinite.My originial design had a number of wind mill lined up inside the pipe.I found problems with this design.I came up with a better way to use artificially created wind energy. The skin of an airplane flying at a speed of 1400 MPH will heat to a tempature hot enought to boil water, because of air friction.Air flowing through a pipe will rub up against the side of the pipe. The air friction created will heat up the pipe.If the pipe can be made to an infinite length, then the air friction will heat the entire length of the pipe.Air flowing through a pipe can create an infinite amount of heat energy. Now if you think about the fan inside the wind tunnel, the amount of energy used by the fan remains constaint and finite.Artificial wind and air friction generating technology can create an infinite amount of heat from a finite amount of energy. But the Laws of Physics states that energy can not be created.I believe this Law of Physics to be wrong, because the Laws of Aero-Dynamics states that air will flow from high pressure to low pressure. The only problem that I have proving this theory is,I don't have any money. If you have any question you can e mail me at kanjorskiwilliam@yahoo.com or you may phone me at 321-432-4304.Thank you for your time.

As founder of the Hedtke Institute, I appreciate all the solution suggestions and emails sent to us at HI. Much of our energy recently has been spent on promoting alternative energy here at PP, Vote Solar and Repower America. It is our hope that as you consider solutions to problems whether posted on HI or that you encounter in daily life you remember to use your head the key to solving any problem.

I believe that the problem is quite simple, people don't understand, more specifically it is the builders who do not have the motivation to act, ie money! If they even tried to research the SEE housing standards they would get an education, but they can't seem to understand that builders will profit in the long run by enhancing their credibility. So it is they themselves who have not yet been converted and their thinking is still wallowing in estetics rather than what saves money for their customers.

Mr. Thomas Peterson - Please consider forming a group under the Energy Party titled: SEE Standards and what it means for you the Individual. People don't have a clue. They need this knowledge.

Mark,

I agree with everything that you said - - especially for people wanting to have new homes built. However, flipping older homes remodelled to SEE standards or even building new "spec." homes to SEE standards does not work here in Maine. Many "average" homebuyers do not seem to recognize the benefit of SEE housing even when simply explained to them. If I tell someone that their mortgage will cost $200.00 more per month, but their home will cost $300.00 less per month to heat = net savings of $100.00 per month, they often look at me with a "So what?" look. I know that our school systems have been faltering, but I cannot believe that this simple of an example can be above anyone, let alone the average homebuyer in Maine, but it is.

I would be interested in whether or not other builders/remodelers in other areas of the country are finding a similar problem????????

Worse, is that I cannot even get real estate appraisers or realtors in Maine to add more than $10,000.00 to the value of a $275,000.00 SEE home that will save their owners $3,000.00 to $4,000.00 per year = a 30 to 40% return on their investment at $10,000.00. People would rather put their money in a "safe" CD earning 4% per year.

Dick Chenney was very effective in convincing people in the U.S. that conservation could "make you feel good, but really would not help our energy situation". Apparently people, including the press, bought it because few people want to hear that SEE housing can save their owners from the beginning more than the additional cost to finance such a home. AND, can mean that the U.S. easily has the ability to cut back on TOTAL energy use by 20% or more by converting our housing to SEE standards, and that individual homeowners can cut back their space heating energy needs/costs by 75% or more.

Someone with a bigger speaker (or more money), maybe Obama or Pickens, needs to get out there and push the SEE concept. I have contacted both the Obama "transition team" and the "Boone Team" as well as the Al Gore "Group" (over six months ago) to consider such and neither has yet to respond to me.

The powers that have been in force in this country for quite a while seem to be entrenched on promoting the use of energy - - even with "ALTERNATIVE FUELS" many of which will still pollute our atmosphere. Why can't we take a look at a simple solution that utilizes existing building technologies that will "CONSERVE ON USING ANY FUELS"??????? Why won't anyone listen to a simple solution that alone has the potential to cut back on TOTAL U.S. energy use by 20+%, let alone achieve a greater reduction in greenhouse gas pollution.

Maybe the answer is because 1) a bunch of middle-class individual homebuilders/carpenters will be the people making more money 2) the concept will be financed without costing homeowners and apartment owners/dwellers more, AND 3) it will simply be paid for by the reduced revenues of energy companies. I am open to any other suggestions as to why "NO ONE" is listening!!!!!!!!! ( I apologize for this last comment to anyone who already sees the value of SEE housing.)

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RESPOND TO THIS!

One of our local construction companies on the eastern side of Central Florida appears to be utilizing some of these same ideas into their new home construction, such as solid wall poured construction, home orientation for natural cooling, as well as integration of alternative energy solutions. Retrofitting older homes with a green emphasis is a challenge that people who flip homes should consider. This would provide a better bang for the buck for the new homeowner, who in today's market has become more attuned to such factors. Besides that, this home improvement probably gets the most return for the buck, even better than a bathroom or kitchen investment.
