New Federal legislation that will mandate the adoption of alternative energy generating systems in new homes misses the point and the opportunity. The law pushes generation out to the edge of the grid and tries to break the efficiency of mass production of energy by mandating the adoption of systems that are not yet energy efficient enough to be economically efficient. They need to stop interfereing in the market and focus on the barriers that slow and prevent adoption. They can also incent the investment in these technologies. Mandates do not work,, look at what we got from the mandate on corn ethanol, we got massive food inflation instead. They interfered with the goal of buying votes.

It would be better for the government to pass legislation that will remove some of the regulatory barriers to the installation of these systems by zoning commissions, Home Owners Associations and Deed Restrictions. See this article at DIY Green Home Improvement.

I agree with Francis Jock, Micro Hydropower generation complements wind power very well, and in solar power and we have a viable energy platform for every part of the country to produce a stable energy grid.

With current technology a drop in elevation of only 10 feet can supply a micro hydro power plant. The greater the drop in elevation, the greater the amount of power that can be generated.

Private land owners, with loans from private investors can split the profit from energy sold back to the grid, making both investors and land owners happy. Its a win, win situation for both.

Hydropower has proven as a clean and somewhat environmentally friendly resource. There are hundreds of large and small-scale hydropower projects throughout the nation, each contributing to the grid. In one sense, an immense wind generator project mirrors and complements hydropower energy.

Naturally, both face many issues and there are many important lessons learned from the recent history of hydropower projects. You can read about some of these issues in two articles Native Winds and Economic Power that address our Nation's Energy Policy.

No matter your view on Man Made Global Warming, there is no question that the availability of energy is critical to the security of the U.S. and to our lifestyle. For too long, we have stood by and let very narrow constituencies dominate this debate, much to our peril.

T. Boone Pickens has stepped forward to seize the initiative and recapture the debate to the constituency that really matters, the Americans that work every day to make this country the sucess that it is. We must look to all the resources we have been blessed with. Yes we need to reconfigure the way in which we consume energy and we need to become far more efficient at using energy for our future. Most importantly, we need to understand that oil has been turned on us as a weapon. WE allowed this to happen and we can undo this. Then our enemies, who would use oil against us will learn that it is a double edged sword.

We need to demand from our Congress that all our resources be used to protect our security. Further we need this issue removed from the realm of political wedge into the truly national interest on which our security and prosperity depend. No more demonizing the oil companies that served us so well over the years, no more demonizing the profits that serve to augment the incomes of retirees through their investments in their 401K's, no more non-sequitors that prevent us from using Nuclear energy when the example of the safety of its use is well established. Finally, no more cynicism and despair. This is America, we have saved the world from tyranny, and alleviated the suffering of millions in poverty through our productivity, hard work and belief in the ability of each and every one of us to make a difference. A better future awaits us.

Please take look at our group site Mariah Power. The Windspire in now on display in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Capitol Botanic Garden through October 2008. Units are going up in California, Nevada, and Utah now, and we will very visable and effective throughout Hawaii this year. Mariah will be available worldwide as production increases with the completion of a new plant in Youngstown, Ohio. The country needs a comprehensive plan that develops the resources we have including oil, nuclear, wind, solar, natural gas, and coal. Then we must develop new sources of clean energy for absolute energy independence now and forever. This means we need to become even more efficient in the use of energy that we already are.

America can achieve greater efficiency in the use of energy resources and we will. But oil has become the new weapon of our enemies and that should drive our energy policy over all other considerations. First we must develop all available resources and set national goals that establish a maximum percentage share of any one resource that our industry can become dependent on to reduce the chances of energy chaos.

The plan must work on free market principles and incentives to avoid waste and the development of a never ending government bureaucracy to manage a problem far beyon the resolution of the crisis.

Drill Here Now. Nuclear Here Now, Coal Here Now, Wind Here Now, Solar Here Now. This is the mantra for a more secure future for the United States.
