Tomorrow, Jan 10 in Eureka Springs

GREEN GROUP SUMMIT
There will be what Eureka Springs Time Bank member Becky Gillettecalls a "green group summit" on January 10th starting at 1PM at the Carnegie Public Library Annex, 194 Spring St. Eureka Springs. Thegroups Planet Home and the Obama Change is Coming will be presenting a talk given by Mr.Robert McAfee.
Mr. McAfee is from the Alliance for Economy and Climate Solutions which is promoting the Governor's
Commission on Global Warming Initiatives, which will lead to energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy sources, and will provide stimulus for economic growth through green collar jobs. ( The web site of the alliance is www.repowerarkansas.org )
This is a win/win approach to Planet Home core initiatives and creating long-term, sustainable jobs for Carroll County to replace the ones we have been losing. Let's make our lovely county a beacon for
the rest of the state!
Refreshments will be served and there will be time for networking among attendees and the various Green groups expected to attend. Mr. McAfee will offer a PowerPoint presentation, the "Repower Arkansas
Road Show" and will answer questions from the audience. A representative from each of the green groups expected to attend will talk a little about what their groups focus is, followed by time for
networking among all groups and attendees.

I live N. of Texarkana, minimal (3-8 mph) wind here. Wish I had enough for a turbine.
I recently built a 5 Star Energy Efficient Home with a Hot Water Solar Panel.
Let's not forget what each of us can do every day...use less !
Turn off the lights, etc.
I even put out a clothes line in the backyard. I estimate is saves about $1/dryer load or 1 kWh. (of course this depends on length of time, heat, etc) Those sun dried clothes smell SO-O good, too.

I'm located in NW Arkansas. I live on a hill & have plenty of wind! Bring it on! Would like to know of others in this area who share the Pickens Plan.

Saturday October 18, 1 pm there will be a rally on the steps of the capitol building protesting the building of the approved coal plant near Texarkana. Anyone who's in the area, wants to hear some bands, wave some signs, and get back to the grassroots of change, see if you can make an appearance. If not, send Governor Beebe an email. There are hundreds of petitions going to him from various non-profit environmental groups, and there is a very good chance that our public outcry against a coal plant that will DOUBLE our CO2 output for the state of Arkansas will be heard.

I feel that proceeding with an honest and well considered energy plan has the potential to not only wean us from foreign dependence on oil but will also create a new and more solidly based financial recovery than anything I have heard so far from any of the candidates!
Again, in my humble opinion, if each (gasoline powered) vehicle owned and operated by federal, state and local governments were converted to CNG the public would a positive move that would create jobs from production of conversion kits, the creation of, at the very least, a fueling iinfrastructure for the public service sector, that possibly private sector business might see a need. As things stand now here in N central arkansas, the nearest CNG "filling station" is in Oklahoma City, Ok. I have visited with several independent filling station owners who tell me that they would be interested in putting in pumps if there were CNG powered vehicles here; kinda drives the age old question "which came first, the chicken or the egg". I feel as if the way to get CNG accepted is to get our governments to get on the stick and start the ball rolling.
I cannot help but wonder if California would be broke (again) if they had converted to CNG last year instead of paying for gasoline! Delete Comment

Did any of you attend the Solar Tour in Little Rock? That sounded really promising and I would like a report if possible.

Hi Group,

A couple of interesting weekend events for you to consider attending. I am particularly interested in the Little Rock project and wish I could attend. Sadly, I have already scheduled my Saturday and can't really beg off. Someone let me know how it goes.

About the ASES National Solar Tour

The ASES National Solar Tour is the largest grassroots solar event in history. While energy prices continue to soar, this event offers participants the opportunity to tour homes and buildings to see how neighbors are using solar energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies to reduce their monthly utility bills and help tackle climate change.

Last year more than 115,000 attendees visited some 5,000 buildings in 2,900 participating communities. Now in its 13th year, this event is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society. It takes place annually during the first Saturday in October in conjunction with National Energy Awareness Month.

An increasing focus of the tour is on energy-saving techniques and sustainability through building design, energy efficient appliances, and use of green materials during remodeling. Tours also provide helpful, real-world examples of costs and how to save money with federal, state, and local incentives,

Ultimately the tour inspires people across the nation to make sustainable energy choices that help lower costs, support energy independence, protect against power outages, and reduce carbon emissions. We invite you to join the renewable energy revolution by participating in the ASES National Solar Tour.
