Hi Bill... I included a link under the discussion "State programs for renewable energy in Arkansas" listed above for both state and federal representatives... Here it is again: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ Just type in your zip code on the top left of the page and it will give you info about the reps... Click on the "Contact" tab and it will show various ways of contacting them...

Let's get to work !

We're all here with a common goal...what do we do now?

Does everyone know how to get in touch with their US Senators and Congressmen? Let's all commit to sending a message or dropping a dime to let our elected representatives know how important this issue is to us.

If they don't know we're here, then they won't respond to our concerns.

We all need to thank Mr. Pickens for explaining the energy problem that we as a nation face. Earlier it was one Group (users) pointing fingers at the other Group (suppliers) and vice versa. The problem is real. It has been magnified to some extent, in recent times, by speculators. But, the truth is we are importing more oil every year and producing less. We are sending billions of dollars overseas.

I like Mr. Pickens Plan but I think it needs to be supplemented by other plans. It by itself will not get us to Energy Independence. It will just buy us more time. For this reason I have posted a petition for Energy Independence .

Please (a) sign the Petition and (b) forward it to your friends. United we can achieve Energy Independence.

Thanks.

Regards and Best wishes,

PS - Aimee, presently wind energy is the most cost effective renewable energy. We should research and develop others and when there is a breakthrough in technology we must adopt them too. Hope this answers your question.

It would be good to see public transportation and buses converted to hybrid technology or renewable. Arkansas being a rural state has very poor public transportation options unless you are in the major metro areas of the major cities. We need more routes that extend to more points outside of downtown, the hospitals, and malls. They need to have enough hours of operations to make them a real choice too. I've ridden an express in the past when I lived in Gravel Ridge, but my work hours are outside the hours it runs so this limits options. When I went to England in 2002, I never had to use a rental car or cab. Public transportation took us anywhere we wanted to go at any time.

Do not forget, flowing water can produce energy in other ways than with dams.

1. We need : a national standards for all states to be enact for net metering and that standards include 2 MW limitation on size. 25 kW to 100 kW will not allow business and industries to address their power requirements.

2. We need: The ability of community solar and wind farms to allow companies, homeowner to park their renewable machines and allow for net metering activities to occur instead on the premise. This would allow for orderly grid management of distributed energy systems.

3. We Need a compressive incentive program much like the Europeans but different. We need 50 Billion energy trust to be managed by the states for incentive either tax credits or rebates that can allow individuals, businesses and industries to adopt the renewable energy technology.
4. We have the technology today for wind and solar. Private venture funds are funding all type of systems and technology. With advent of 50% solar conversion efficiency by University of Delaware and MIT new organic dyes systems. the ball game is about to change. We need to support the DOE 10 Billion loan guarantee program already enacted. We need to pass the new SBIR and STTR program to provide 300K for phase I and 2.1 M for Phase II projects and national goal of 2 Billion for SBIR and STTR programs.

5. We need a real incentive for American to drive different cars manufactured in America by American, We need a Federal Tax credit that support high gas mileage cars and as the gas mileages increases the higher the tax credits.
6. Finally, we need to enact 10 year Production Tax Credit for wind, solar and other renewable energy. We stop the "stop and Go" policy of the past congresses.
