Barack Obama Is A Strong Alternative Energy Man

Barack Obama Is A Strong Alternative Energy Man

Mr. Pickens is fully misinformed when he states on CBS News that Mr. Obama hasn't made energy independence one of the cornerstones of his campaign. He HAS. Energy Independence legislation is One of 3 Primary goals for the first Obama administration.

Okay, soapbox time. "America is addicted to Oil." - George W. Bush. If someone was addicted to heroin, would you go find more for them? And as for Al Gore, who I love . . . now that I think about it, he's all talk and very little action. Why did it take Mr. Pickens to start a movement like this? Al Gore got us all smart and very worried. Why couldn't he also provide some solid solutions that didn't involve Congress? And as for Mr. Pickens, maybe he's decided to only bite off one chunk at a time but it seems to me that if he had said "As for our future electricity n eeds, we're going to use 20% less oil by replacing it with energy from wind. Then we're going to use another 20% less energy by replacing it with energy from solar. Then we're going to use another 20% less oil by replacing it with hydroelectric. And on and on until he has the plan laid out to replace our energy needs with alternative energies. Then he can start with our transportation needs." Wa La! Eurkea! A real life energy plan. I'm so disappointed that Al Gore couldn't get this going. And I think it's because he's just another tree-hugging Democrat. Once a real live in the flesh Repugnican stands up against foreign oil and walks the talk, people start perking up. It makes me mad mad mad!!!! Now the Repugs are going to be tree-huggers too? Hey, they're stealing the other Dem platforms, why not that one too. If it works, I might even become a Repug again!

Neither candidate has given a detailed plan Obama consistently talks about renewable energy but McCain wants oil drilling and I feel McCain's plan goes against what Pickens is trying to do. The goal is to free ourselves from oil. Sure, we can use our oil deposits here in America BUT ONLY as a bridge to get us by while we convert to green energy. McCain, on the contrary, is using the "drill now" plan to lower gas prices right now as a short-term band-aid to get quick results. Obama is looking ahead with his long-term ideas. We have to look at the big picture and I believe Obama has the ability as a visionary and a proactive leader. That may mean toughing it out a little longer. We know we have limited oil in the US so it should be used sparingly/carefully.
Aimee, I agree with you. But I wonder why we have to wait until the new president takes office? Why can't we start now under the current administration/congress? Surely there are enough in congress to push for it NOW!

Of all of the campaign money that oil companies give to candidates for public office, more than 85% goes to Republicans. I just don't trust people like that. I trust Barack to sign whatever legislation will come across his desk concerning proper energy policy.

Good point Richard. But Barack is still a lot better than McCain when it comes to advocating alternative energy. Plus he has a feedback system from voters like you whom he will use to modify his plans.

Please read Obama's energy plan on his official website. It is hopeless. NO INCENTIVES AT ALL FOR PEOPLE to buy hybrid cars, energy star windows, enegery star appliances, energy efficient lights, solar electric, wind, biofuels heat, insulation, energy efficient furnaces, geothermal, etc. NOTHING, check his site!. He wants $150 billion for research. Ok for reasearch but all of the above are already available and don't need research to be used now.

He does want "low carbon coal" Coal is a hydrocarbon, it is black due the the carbon, its energy comes from the carbon. Low carbon coal could also be called low energy coal, contamianed coal, or useless coal. If we all just believe really hard low carbon coal might solve our energy and climate problems, but I bewt armies of elves, faries, and dragons will show up and solve our energy problems first.
His energy plan looks like he has sold out to big oil and big coal.

I could not believe it. Read it yourself and you will realize Obama will not help solve our energy or climate problems.

Jimmy Carter actually did things that worked. I wish he would just take some pages from what worked under Carter and go form there.

I am really impatient for this election to be over with so that we can get started on developing alternative energy sources... I wish we could amend the constitution so we do not have to wait until January 20 (my birthday), 2009... I want oil independence, and I want it NOW.!!!

I applaud Mr. Pickens for his plan, however I FULLY support Barack Obama for president. I'm really not sure who Mr. Pickens supports to help bring about the dramatic change that he proposes, but I can assure you that Barack Obama's interest and ability to bring about a greener America is far superior to John McCain's, Regardless of who your voting for though.... Lets all work together FREE ourselves from foreign oil!!!
