Big Wind Biochar Dump Load Regulation

Information

Big Wind Biochar Dump Load Regulation

an electrical pyrolysis load allows excess wind energy to be used to maximize char and syngas production..syngas generators then produce electrical energy under low wind conditions, forming a carbon negative base load solution.

Here are a couple of pictures of Sean Barry's Kiln near Spokane. We will go back out tomorrow to load up some Biochar.

The virtues of biochar

A new growth industry?

Aug 27th 2009 | BOULDER, COLORADO
From The Economist print edition
Biochar could enrich soils and cut greenhouse gases as well

CHARCOAL has rather gone out of fashion. Before the industrial revolution, whole forests disappeared into the charcoal-burners’ maw to provide the carbon that ironmakers need to reduce their ore to metal. Then, an English ironmaker called Abraham Darby discovered how to do the job with coke. From that point onward, the charcoal-burners’ days were numbered. The rise of coal, from which coke is produced, began, and so did the modern rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

It is a sweet irony, therefore, that the latest fashion for dealing with global warming is to bring back charcoal. It has to be rebranded for modern consumers, of course, so it is now referred to as “biochar”. But there are those who think biochar may give humanity a new tool to attack the problem of global warming, by providing a convenient way of extracting CO2 from the atmosphere, burying it and improving the quality of the soil on the way.

Many of those people got together recently at the University of Colorado, to discuss the matter at the North American Biochar Conference. They looked at various ways of making biochar, the virtues of different raw materials and how big the benefits really would be.

Agree James Tracy / Robert Shultz: Plasma Denisfication-gasification is good tech.

Biochar demonstrations are coming to Washington state in September. Thanks to Philip Small of PNW Biochar, and Land Profile, Inc. for the information. Welcome to our discussion group here on the Pickens Plan. Below is some information about the Biochar Celebrations coming to Spokane, and Bellingham, WA.

********************************************************************************

Sean Barry is coming to Bellingham, Washington from Stillwater,
Minnesota to promote the production and use of Biochar. Sean is
engineer and owner of Troposphere Energy, LLC. He is bringing a
portable kiln he has built for us to test and use. This is a tool that
can make positive inroads to combat global warming/climate change and
to promote soil improvement research using charcoal-in-soil
techniques.

This kiln he is bringing here is an open source technology -- A United
Nations, Food & Agriculture Organization portable kiln, that can make
~700-1000 lbs of Biochar in 24 hours and is designed to be operated by
2 people. It can be used anywhere in the world where there is biomass
and requires only basic wood cutting tools. By helping Sean perfect
this prototype kiln, we can learn more about making Biochar and share
it for gardening and/or farm research.

Sean Barry (above) is going to make some charcoal in Spokane while on the road to Bellingham from Stillwater, MN. Larry Williams, Bellingham, will be with him. They plan to fire up Sean's kiln on Tuesday morning 9/15 at the Barr Regional Bio-Industrial Park site at Exit 254, I-90, (map) 30 minutes west of Spokane. The public is invited to join in the celebration.

Make Biochar and Biochar compost with Sean Barry, Larry Williams, and
Rich Haard on September 19,20 and 26,27 at Fourth Corner Nurseries,
Sand Road, Bellingham, WA.

Events Scheduled

Saturday, September 19 - Setting up, firing, and monitoring the kiln
Sunday September 20 - Harvest and breakup the Biochar product
Saturday September 26 - Another kiln run, this time with dry garden
waste -- AND making Biochar based compost with Larry Williams
Sunday September 27 - Again, harvest and breakup of Biochar and
distribution of Biochar for in-soil research in gardens or on farms.

Registration application and local information -- Richard Haard,
