These are some talking points at the City of Cape Canaveral I will bring
up tonight.

1) I want to bring up my 'green paper idea' that I introduced fall of last year. Do you still have the copy I gave you? The city officials were going to look at how beneficial the solar collectors were at Manatee Park. I think as a city we may want to look at alternative energy and sustainability as part of the community visioning process. Start off small and maybe see if we can subsidize the water treatment center with alternative energy. There was a green audit. Is there an official release on the findings from that? Remember Green is the color of money too so all this is inter-related.

2) I would like to solicit opinions from the city council to see if there is mutual interest
in stating a local heritage group. A group of city volunteers interesting in ways we can
restore the local area history. Is there is an update with the the oral history project? Last
I read in Senior Life is that they were taping videotaping Leo Nichols. Hope there are
some more highlights to this project. I notice that history is seriously lacking on the new
website, will that be added to later?

Attention local Picken's people. Let's get together for
lunch. Consider this.

What: Business Luncheon in Cocoa beach
When: Thursday 11th. 11:30 am to 1:pm
Where: Sunrise Bank
5604 N. Atlantic Avenue
Cocoa Beach, Florida 32931
Cost: Free
Please RSVP for a numbers count.

Picken's Plan members are welcome to the first of several
luncheon's to get to know each other and their ideas for
a successful local group. Sunrise Bank is a green building
that is going for LEED certification so this is a good way
to support Green Building initiatives. Lunch is provided
complimentary by a local restaurant. Please RSVP so we can
get an idea how many from the Picken's Group will be there.
Please note: this luncheon is for all business people and not just Picken's Plan members.

Thanks for signing up A.Glenn. Once we get past these weather
days we will organize a luncheon where we can all meet. I may be able to get a speaker from FPL Wind dept if our numbers are up.

So now let's just recruit, recruit and recruit for our local area. Do you know others in the local area who might be interested in the
Picken's Plan? While Boone is spending millions on TV ads we
should join in the effort and get more people involved. IMHO.

Let me know when, where and I'll be there, with bells on or not. Solar panel in my hair to keep my pacemaker running, nah.......it's just for my coffee cup warmer. I'd love to learn more about how I can help and details on alternate energy methods in Fl. I'm in Cocoa/Rockledge area. Thanks

Ray, The more the merrier. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible interested in furthering energy independence

Hello from Cape Canaveral. Anybody else in the area? I will be
inviting more so watch out for this place to fill up.

A recruitment drive seems like the first meaningful thing we can do.

The installations of PV on residential homes is about to take off. My reasoning is this:
• The energy investment tax credit will be extended – the house and senate are at odds how to, not if. The investment in solar PV technology will continue and the price will drop.
• The 30% residential ITC will be extended, and possibly the $2k cap will be eliminated. If that happens then the price drops by 1/3 immediately.
• Several states are providing some incentives – in Florida it is non-existent because the $5M offered this year failed to cover FY07 commitments – however, I am hopeful that this will be revisited. The $4/w offered would have lowered the cost another 40%.
• Qualified solar installers are being cranked out at an increasing rate. The Florida Solar Energy facility has a one week training class – booked out through 2008 at minimum, Sharp and other companies provide in-house training (cheap at $500 / 2 days). The people will be installing PV – bringing the knowledge, exposure, and demand up.
• The electric car is just about here – from a few Prius PHEV mods and the far off hope of the Volt a few years ago – to almost every major car manufacturer offering something 09-10 model years. The progressive x-prize will also expose EV to the public. People owning an EV will see the vaue of buying their own ‘filling station’.
• Finally there are the many individuals like me, reading, gathering knowledge, asking questions – I have no doubt I could install the entire PV system myself – right up to calling the utility to hook in their meter for net-metering. I still need to figure out the permit, line up a solar qualified installer to bless it – but I bet I can take another 20% of the cost by self-installing.
My company just went to a 9-80 workweek to allow us every other Friday off. Almost like someone were reading some of my entries here and other sites to give me something I cannot buy - time. I have started working with a few people, hopefully the group will grow and we can start getting some installs done. I will be donating the Fridays to that, whether it turns into a group effort to get a few homes done, or something bigger – time will tell.
If you are interested in learning how to get PV installed, the actual installation, how to get a permit, inspections, etc. And are willing to put some time into it, either through labor or knowledge, lets get together. Id be willing that we could find a combination of the following:
- People who would like to get solar PV installed
- People with the resources to purchase the material
- Knowhow for the paperwork (permits, rebates)
- Roofing, mechanical, electrical skills for the install
- Time
I would donate plenty of time, labor – I feel that the experience gained would lead to my own installation fairly quickly.

Thanks for starting a Brevard group. Hopefully there will be enough people interested in both Central Florida group and this one to allow the ideas to flow across groups.
My question is:
- What kind of ideas are of interest to the group?
Personally I am interested in solar panels on my roof, electric car in my driveway - but I'd be interested in getting involved in a multitude of projects.
Curious on how I can help!

Thank you for starting this interesting site. I am very interested in seeing how alternative energy ideas develop across the country. Please include me on your updates and notices. I wish you much success.

You are invited to join our group for updates on the Windspire and
other alternative energy items and ideas.

We are building a new manufacturing plant in Youngstown, Ohio to allow us to mass produce the Windspire.
