UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

" The question remains as to why this device has not been universally adopted? The only reason that I can determine is one outside of my area of expertise: Politics. I lack an understanding of the complicated interactions of utility companies, Public Service Commissions, and the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government in this regard. In summary, the PLD has met all the criteria of engineering design and has been proven effective." Ronald McClendon, Ph. D.

Note: Dr. McClendon has taught courses in mechanical, electrical, aeorospace, and industrial engineering, as well as, engineering mechanics, artificial intelligence, and biological engineering at three major research universities. At the University of Georgia he has taught Microcontrollers and Utilization of Electric Power and Equipment. These courses are pertinet to the PLD concept.

Take the Energy Star Pledge
By Alison Rogers - Mother Earth News

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and parent-teacher organizations to train the next generation of eco-conscious citizens. Through the EPA’s Change the World, Start with Energy Star campaign, the groups will focus on teaching kids about global warming.

As part of the program, kids and their families will learn how to save energy by taking the Energy Star pledge, which includes switching to energy-efficient lighting, fully insulating homes, replacing energy hogs with more energy-efficient appliances and other home energy saving tips. Already, more than 2 million Americans have taken the pledge. According to Energy Star, if every American household followed suit, we would save $18 billion in annual energy costs.

Continue reading about the campaign at Energy Star's Change the World webpage.

"Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR" is a national campaign encouraging all Americans to join with millions of others and take small, individual steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming.

Typo in greeting for group "...once community at a time" should be "one community at a time". I make more than my share of them so I understand.

Joined Tom Peterson's SEE building group too. Good information for making my 100 year old house more energy efficient. I have found lots of resources on the Pickens Plan pages;energy efficient building ideas, biochar for the soil, sustainable communities, vehicle conversions,...

Now it's time to put some ideas into action!

Hello. Just joined the group, looks like a good place to exchange ideas and info. Check out 1-BOG, One Block Off the Grid. They try to get communities together to negotiate group discounts on solar panels. I think we could do something similar for other sources of renewable energy too. Call them Sustainable Improvement Projects (SIP's) for our local communities.

Check out green-e.org. It'll lead you to an amazing line of renewable energy systems that are on-going.
I use a printing company out ot Kansas City (Posty Cards). Turns out they are already in an exchange program where they replace all the electricity they use with windpower. This is where things need to be going!

Ken We had some interesting developments today on Letters from Washingon. See Leslie's post from Lt Gov. I trying to figure out if the following invite to a seminar is really a two way street. Daytona's three hours away and I don't want to drive there unless that will accomplish something I can't do from here. Your thoughts?

Ted, what we're looking for is local volunteers who will simply pick a date during BBB week 5/30-6/6 '09, find a project (which is sounds like you have), send us the details so we can put it on the map (which will be live shortly), and the call/email friends, family, etc. and get them to show up at the site, town square, or coffee shop to make a visible demonstration of support.

And yes you are 100% right, we will have to move the grid from the ground up, not top down. Top down is what the utilities want because they want to keep thier business, but imagine if the Internet were controlled and expanded from the top down of MS and IBM - you'd never have the innovation much less penetration rates.

Do please consider it and let me know (ksmith@buildbabybuild.net), really not much effort other than standing up and picking a date & project.

Thanks,

KS

en, It's not just green job sites here, it seems there are non-stop Green TV programs in public, offices, at the gym etc. But The Long Tail may be what makes BBB important. I think we're going to have force the grid from local up so tell me abouit BBB. There's a State of Fl summitt next week in Daytona which may bear looking into by somebody from BBB..

Ted, Chris, I agree there are way too many groups. 12 'green jobs' sites alone by my count. If I may be sol bold, if you know of 'The Long Tail', what Boone is doing is great at the national level, and what BBB is doing at the local level is equally unifying. Our intent is to have one, unifying message that anyone from any community can rally around and leverage for projects in thier own community. I would very much like if either or both of you would be willing to organize a BBB day in your town/region, please email me directly for more info - very little required, we're trying to get 100's or 1000's of events around the country to support actual projecting going up in communities all over. Thanks for your comments and support.
