Well for one, we are a huge exporter of Natural Gas (Ticker Symbol ECA-t) and we are a dynamic peoples, willing to adapt to change.

I think there are ways we can benefit from this and still be an affluent resource rich nation.

I'm 20, a university student from southern Ontario and I'm loud! If there's anyone else from this neck of the woods, holler!

Yes - There is a lot we can do. If you look at Picken's numbers the US represents 4 % of World's population and uses 25 % of World's oil.

The number one thing everyone can do is conserve - use less. Reduce the amount of oil + gas + electricity you use. Second we need to explore alternative energy solutions in whatever form we can afford. Small scale solar, wind, geothermal - they can all be applied at various scales without costing a fortune. If everybody starts small and we gradually make a big difference.

I'll be posting lots of good ideas on my blog ..... Offgrid-Living.com

For starters each Canadian can e mail all their friends in the U.S. Then visit ' How To Boil A Frog' to get up to speed on the serious energy shortages coming down the tube. Then we can set an example how to reduce our dependence on oil. - We are in the same boat actually but we are in a better position to make the changes. We don't have as many wealthy people resisting change and our economy (how we each make a living) is more closely associated with hewing wood and hauling water rather than dealing in mutual funds that own pieces of banks who own pieces of insurance companies that own pieces of retirement funds that own pieces of real estate.

'Fraid the bailout just prolongs the inevitable. Looks after the bankers but does nothing for the people losing their homes. -See 'Simplified Economics' on Blog thing - My Page. It's been looked at by a lot of people without a single comment.

Then in three weeks time -after the Conservatives tell us why they needed an election - go vote.
