Moving to a genuinely carbon neutral society will take time. It may take government tax breaks to make alternative energy economically viable.

Overview

Positive Day - October 11, 2008 - Proclamations

Positive Day State of Connecticut

Positive Day State of Iowa

Positive Day State of West Virginia

Other States: We have received similar proclamations from the States of Delaware and Wyoming and will be posting them when they arrive at our offices.

Our goal is to repeat this proclamation in all fifty states for 2009. 10% of the states for our first time around with this is excellent, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Governors from these states for their assistance with this effort.

Re: Let us put our money where our mouth is … And WiNd BiG

Virtually all of us here at Pickens’ Plan are in favor of making an investment into the Plan. We'd even want to contribute real hard cash. I'm sure as word spreads, everyone in the country would too. Here’s how "We the People" can do it. If we all wrote to our electric power companies and requested an immediate rate increase of $0.03/kWh to be used as our shared investment in converting all electricity to wind, we could generate an investment fund of considerable power. Consider this. We as a nation use 4 trillion-kWh of electricity a year or 333 billion-kWh per month. Investing $0.03/kWh means an investment of $10 billion per MONTH. That’s $120 billion over 5 years. With that investment, “We the People” get “Power to the People” and each of us, as individuals, will be energy independent within 5 years.

Worried about other fossil energy sectors? Don’t! The same formula would work equally well there too! We can become an zero-carbon energy nation as fast or faster than Al Gore says.

I have no problem agreeing to the DNC being added to the site as soon as the pull their heads out of their asses. Pelosi and Reid are stoppin America (us) from being able to start a return to independence. Oil whether we like it or not for the next few years is necessary to give us time for perfect alternatives such as wind, solar. Yes my comment are harsh, but "Stupid is as Stupid Does" Right now that translates to the Demotratic non-leadership. Let there be a vote....Better yet ask President Bush to call them back until they have an agreement.

well its to first rebuild the town by useing the resouces that are already there. bring buisness back and that will lead to more people coming back. we are taking builds that have been abandoned and lost to the city. the building will be rebuilt so that it dosent look like a hood from newyork. wow you apparently didnt read anything in the overview. scroll up a little and take a look. this plan is gonna bring people and money to the buisness that are allready up and running also open new doors for people who wnat to start there own buisness. so mrs TinCT you need to read a little better into the overview. this plan is not just gonna make movie studios its gonna bring the city back to life. my question to you is Do you still drive a car? also another thing is that when the studios are built do you think they are gonna run them selves? this plan is to bring life back into this city and help the people out that are needing work.

Nice plans for a cityscape -
but not very much in the manner of housing & neighborhood from the picture here -
can you make more in the way of small shops with the stores on the bottom & nice housing on top of the shops to encourage more in the manner of artisans & american owned businesses rather than looking like another failed downtown Hartford Corporate Poorly Done ReVamping due to lots of money but not much in the manner of actual thought to the community that it's sitting in & the rich History of the area?
The Hartford CT Residents haven't benefitted so in what way would the current FullTime residents benefit from your plan?

What's the need for another big box hotel?

What's the draw to the "city" other than it's green?

We've all got plenty of malls to go to & there's a walmart in every other town that puts the family owned small stores out of business but thats what your plan looks like in the way that it's configured currently - just another mall that destroys whats currently there in exchange for lots of black top & a few big buildings that sit empty for many hours

When Hollywood has come to CT it's come to film in the remains of what's "old is new" especially when doing period pieces like the Indianna Jones movie ...
so rather than destroying the Old World Charm that is New England why not work to simply repurpose the currently standing buildings in place?

Why a food court instead of a home town family owned bakery, a family owned deli down the street & several privately owned restaurants? Do we really need another food court with it's standard fare which is available at any mall in America?

Why not take another look at the towns current buildings & strech your imagination as to how they can be used to keep their old wolrd charm on the exteriors & restructure the interiors to better meet the needs of both the "real world current residents" as well as the needs of possible future world tenants of the hollywood types who travel a great deal & wouldn't be actually living in the area long term & raising their families in the area & upgrading the buildings to be green with the fiber optics work with the cable & phone companies - work with the residents to go green by installing solar as well as rooftop wind turbines - find out who lives in the area who would like to work to bring their city to a green life & maybe learn new skill sets to build & retrofit green as well as those skill sets needed to become green

what have you done in considering mass transportation needs rather than cars like trolley system, rail road expansion & bike ways to lessen the needs for daily gas consumption for those people who would be working in the "city" commuting in to work?

This mini-city as proposed isn't really doing much in showing how a city can truely go green in that it's only a few select blocks & is dedicated to one main industry rather than considering the greater good of the people who currently live in the city as it is right now & the bigger actual city which thiese select 9 blocks are in the middle of.

I hope that you'll open your eyes & heart to consider more of the bigger picture of the people who are in the areas surrounding your mini-city consider the needs of the families with children who need full time jobs, schools, transportation, starting smaller but thinking on a bigger scale that encompasses quality of life issues like daycare, elder care, housing that is both affordable as well as safe & green, community parks & education in what ways will the community as a whole benefit?

How is this 9 block square small city going to positively affect the area that it's in the middle of?
How can it better be done so that more families have full time careers with full benefits & that they can raise their families on?

What types of positive expansion can be done so that starting may be on a smaller scale but it better uses the current buildings & helps more people & families who are living in the bigger area rather than only focusing on the corporate few who won't be living there (let's be realistic when Hollywood comes to town they stay a few months shoot what they want & then go back to their multi-million dollar homes far away from the real people of America)
