Hi Tai,

I like this, and there are no value judgments intended in these question! What happens to performance when changing from one fuel to another? Is the vehicle's engine calibrated (for lack of better words) to be better on one fuel over another?

On this particular vehicle, which is designed to be a flex-fuel from the factory there is no noticable difference in how the engien sounds or operates on the different fuels.

Inherently, a gasoline engine running on CNG can lose up to 25% of its horsepower. With our digital injection system, and a lean burn strategy, the loss of power is minimized on engines and fuel economy increases up to 18% better based on the minimum methane content of the fuel.

However, the dual, wasted-gate spark on teh 5.7L HEMI results in more power on CNG than on gasoline! Now, all of this is acchieved with sequential, multi-point, port injection. With direct injection, an engine can achieve up to 25% better horsepower on CNG than gasoline with no other modifications. Performance upgrades can boost performance of either injection system with say increased compression, or increased boost from a turbo, or lowering the intake temperature with an intercooler.......

If you are looking for the Federal tax credit, you will have to pay more to get less. Only dedicated fuel vehicles qualify for the incentive, and only vehicles over 8,000 GVWR make economic sense to recoup the extraneous cost involved with a dedicated fuel vehicle that does not work everywhere in todays infrastructure. Adding enough fuel storage capacity to give a dedicated fuel vehicle enough range to be viable is cost prohibitive in most applications. We also offer dedicated fuel systems for H2, CNG LNG, and LPG that do qualify for the pork available at the trough.
